Ok folks.... let's not jump the gun on the next new product. We don't know what this will bring.
Here are the reasons for me to keep my 3GS... My opinion, not anyone elses

Pros

1. Jailbroken (I LOVE IT !!!!) Freedom!!!
2. unlocked
3. Already multitasking
4. Beautiful design
5. Stable phone
6. Extremely satisfied with this model

Cons (Based on leaks)

1. HD will be a battery draining pain (I only need HD on my TV)
2. Front facing camera (I'm not one bit interested)
3. 5 Mega Pixel cam (Wow, that won't make a big difference from 3.0)
4. Removal baterry (It will need to be)
If you plan on HD, coupled with multitasking in excess of 2 programs, then you may need to replace your battery before it's anniversary.
5. The leak pictures displayed a very ugly design.

Having in excess of 2 programs opened on a mobile device is crazy. So the whole multitasking thing is not appealing at all.

Plus I already have that capability at my disposal if I need it.

There will be a speed bump from the 3GS to the new iPhone from the A4 chip. Probably comparable to the one from the 3G to the 3GS.

Also, the iPad has been lauded for its battery. 10 straight hours of video! I know the iPhone battery will be a fraction of the size, but the screen will also be a fraction of the size. The A4 is definitely a power sipping SOC. I only see battery life improving over the 3GS.

The design is your prerogative, but you won't have to look at the new design if you put a case on it.

Other than that, I would expect the new iPhone to be jailbroken/unlocked a month or so after release. That's usually about how long it takes the iPhone Dev Team to work their magic.

Perhaps you could use that month to mull over whether its the right move for you, but I'm just throwing in some info you may have not known.

That seems to no longer be the case re: unlocking. Am I right?

My iPad negate the needs for the new iPhone for me. I don't think I'll be upgrading the iPhone for a long while, will wait till two year contract ends (2H '11).

I barely touch my iPhone now, so i can't justify the cost of upgrading to the new iPhone.

It's been more than a month since the last update was released and they haven't unlocked it yet.

We aren’t revealing any new exploits to Apple with this jailbreak. Everything here has been used before, it’s just a straightforward port of Pwnage2 and 24Kpwn to the new firmware. It’s possible the new firmware was released largely to flush out new exploits before the next big release. We won’t be biting.

They didn't want to reveal holes they found to Apple before the big 4.0 release. 3.1.3 did very little except fix a battery indicator issue and nix blacksn0w. So they held out for 4.0.

Did you read why they didn't unlock it?

Nice! I've been wondering about this myself. Most of what I do with jailbreaking is cosmetic but I love it and it'll be weird going back to stock with the new iPhone and waiting for the JB.

Sticking with what I have, for now. Once they jb the new phone+update all the necessary packages (MyWi, Backgrounder, 3G Unrestrictor are a MUST), then I'll think about upgrading in October when I'm eligible and selling the 3GS.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Depends on the speed. I laugh at those who think the 3gs wasn't a big upgrade over the 3g. New processor and more ram will a 100x bigger difference to me than the crap that people whine about like megapixels and front facing cameras.

I don't even care about the form factor; I like the current one just fine. Give me OS 4, the ipad's A4, 512 RAM, and the ipad's battery life. I honestly couldn't care less about the rest.

its already jb cause they can use what they are saving. it might take like 24 hours to tune it up is all. like the 3gs and ipad.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm 50/50 between switching to Android or getting the new iPhone.
