Could be worse, Eminem anyone?

I heard in the Eminem version, the unit comes with a little desktop unit that everyone loves and an old ugly base unit that sits on the floor behind the desk. But in beta testing, the base unit kept launching lawsuits claiming it deserved more of the credit.

Oh, and since this is a headless iMac rumor, let's not forget the most important accessory for the iMac Eminem: the gMonitor, which spins around. :D

Performa! allways use a name that is opposite of what it gives. learned this from the current Bush administration, clean air act, no child left behind and other great one liners.

Politics are for the political forum. While the Performa idea is funny, the rest of it I could care less about. Not to be mean, but I just don't want to hear political horse**** everywhere in my life.

I say bring back a thing they like to use:

I predict the new name to be:
The iMac G4 EXTREME!

How could a slower computer possiably be called 'EXTREME'??

they will think of a very good name. They are Apple, I like the name Macintosh - even though it doesn't match anything -

I came up with a good one (thanks to the post above)

iMac express
eMac express
PowerMac express

???

Being apolitical is a political choice, too. I, for one, don't want to hear your "too cool to care" anti-political horse*** anywhere in my life.

Macintosh Blade

My prediction is that they will call it "The Blade" --

To the youth it will conjour images of Kung Fu and "Blade Runner" while to the corporate IT types considering a switch to Mac at home, it will be seen as a little blade server -- thin, fast, small, no monitor, network friendly.

And the codename for the marketing plan? "Switchblade" of course.

I think they should target the ever growing Latin American population by calling it the eMacita.... or "The Bicycle" as Jobs originally wanted to name the Mac (I'm pretty sure I'm right about that factoid, but I'm sure someone will promptly correct me if I'm wrong).

Even if they wanted to, it would be a bad idea imo. Sun already sells computers using the "blade" name

Come on people! Where's your sense of product origins?!

1) It can't be an iMac ANYTHING. iMacs are all in one computers, monitors built in.

2) eMacs were iMacs for the education market, once the iMacs went lcd. The idea behind these machines was to keep them simple and sturdy (hence the all-in-one design and the CRT), as well as inexpensive. By removing them from the monitor, their appeal to the education sector diminishes. This new machine is not being targeted toward the education market, hence no e.

3) uMac is too simlar to UMAX from the clone wars.

4) xMac sounds like something I'd like to do to my daughter's mother.

5) cMac sounds like a Mac with an average grade.

6) express? What's express about the slowest machine in their line-up?

I guess the question is what are they trying to sell? Not speed. Not portability. Not all-in-oneness... All it seems to have going for it is its "starter-kit" nature, a bare-bones quality, a basic, simplistic Mac. Sure, we've been clamoring for one of these for years (at least I have), but WHY in terms of marketability? Call it the i'vealreadygotallmyperipheralsMac? Or the ialreadyhaveanicemonitorMac? idontneedag5Mac? idontneedportabilityMac? This machine either needs a gimmick to set it apart in a positive way (like AV inter-activeness) or it will just be seen as the cheapieMac...

Here's my logic.

We already see posters everywhere with the iPod next to the iMac G5. It even says that they are by the same designer (doesn't Ive design everything?). I think that because of Apple's affinity for aesthetics we are going to see posters with the iPod mini and the iMac mini. This way Apple can capitalize on the iPod phenomenon while avoiding calling it the podMac. iPod mini was for people who wanted an ipod but didn't need all those features and would rather have size and price (though it's still steep for it's capacity). This new mac is the same concept as the iPod mini.

My vote is iMac mini. It sounds best too.

Honestly i bet money that none of these ideas are used. Especially not the iMac mini. He is Steve Jobs - he can obviously do a good job with the cool factor name - and i am sure that it will sound good.

There is really no way of knowing what name Steve Jobs and company will use. With his golden touch, it will definitely be catchy. It's still fun to speculate.

That's what we're here for... I like (i)Mac mini/express

iMac mini would make sense, and so would iMac Express-- since Apple uses mini and Express to mean, 'slightly lesser product than the non-mini/Express product.'

podMac? Makes less sense if the machine doesn't have a built-in iPod dock.
xMac? The Mac for ex-Windows users. Probably not, because "x" denotes the enterprise-level product line.

It will not be called iMac Jr., because IBM's PCjr was a failure, and Jobs won't want the possibility of this machine to be lumped in with that one. And yes, I know the PCjr was 20 years ago, but Jobs is the decision maker and he would consider the negative connotations of using that name.

Me, I like tMac (referring to the Model T Ford, of course)-- a Mac priced so the average schmoe can afford it, which opens the floodgates to a new era.

misfitMac.

It has no place in any of the current lines of Macs. poorMac... :(

Just kidding.

It deserves its own name or replace the eMac line. But, I think education departments are quite happy being able to purchase all-in-ones that can be installed and moved easily (relative to moving a display, tower/desktop, etc.). So, the eMac will probably stick around.

It seems more like a headless iBook to me, minus the keyboard and trackpad and speakers. It'd be an interesting form-factor for sure. I think we'll see a return of external speakers (Pro Speakers most likely), too. Why? Well, I wouldn't want to stuff a speaker into such a small enclosure (or even worse, use laptop speakers!). And, from knowing Apple, they seem to have this need to give users the ability to hear sounds. And not to mention, if you're going to use the iLife suite, sound/music is everything.

I hope 1.25 GHz is good for websurfing. Yeah, for me, even 500 MHz is plenty good. But, there's certain websites out there that you expect a working person to visit, yet the website is optimized for IE, loaded with animations, Flash, etc. My iMac G4 800 MHz starts getting sluggish going to Korean news websites (which fit the description), so I have to wonder if that extra MHz is good enough.

Because of the rumors on size, I'm going with:

slimMac.

But from knowing Apple, it will be "i" something. And maybe Express or Extreme for effect ;)

To follow apples trend lately I think they name it either iMac mini or iBox.
Why not iPC, iComp, iPuter, i[insert word].

"6) express? What's express about the slowest machine in their line-up"

Express also means to inherit a something geneticly (although usually visual), so its inheriting stuff from other computers i guess. Think about airport express, its not any better then airport extreme, ap exp. only can support 10 users. Express does not always mean fast.
