Interesting that the #1 trending is smaller bezels. For some reason, bezels don't bother me -- not on the iPhone, not on the iPad, and not on my MBA.

Overall, I'm really learning how different we all are in what we care about. :)
For me, I'm always a bit surprised by the perennial calls for a much improved webcam, I don't think it would make a gigantic difference over a heavily compressed video calling stream, and there's the iPhone for selfies (or indeed if you do want a super HD video call). Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I think the existing 720p webcam is adequate for its intended purpose.

I think it is as much wasted screen realestate as much as anything.
reduced bezels = bigger screen in the same chassis size [which works well for the keyboard and speakers so no need to change that].

How about a touchscreen, 2 in 1? Smash and iPad and a mac air together, it will run ios apps anyway, why carry around both? :) ...add face ID. ...and how about a secondary nvme slot to be able to add internal storage?

That would mean sales lost ipad sales though ;)

Covered by this poll. A solid majority don't want it.

True, but if they charge an extra $500, I doubt Apple would care to much.

They don't want it yet. :) My thinking is once its gets more mainstream to run ios apps on a mac, people will start trying to touch their mac book screen's more trying to interact with the apps.

IMO, the new MBA is so excellent that there's nothing it *needs* to meaningfully improve. My biggest complaints with the 2020 i5 Air were the performance and the battery life, and the base M1 crushes both categories.

That said, I still have a soft spot for the keyboard on my old 2015 MBP...

Yep unfortunately it’s been radio silence from Apple on that front despite periodic rumours right from the early days of the MBA. Don’t know if it’s because their market research tells them there’s no market for a full sized consumer laptop, or if they think it would undermine sales of the 16” pro too much. I can’t imagine there would be all that much overlap between a ~$1,299 15” Air and a $2,399 Pro, but then I also see quite a lot of people wanting a larger Air on various threads here...

It's just unfortunate that, unlike most companies' PC options, with Macs, to go bigger, you have to go beefier. If I'm not a huge gamer (and on Apple Silicon Macs, it doesn't look as likely as anyone, outside of Blizzard-exclusive gamers, won't have that many PC titles to play natively on), nor video editor, but I still want a huge screen, my only option is a 16" MacBook Pro with the base CPU and GPU (so, in current Intel 16" MacBook Pro terms, the hexa-core i7 and the 5300M), which is still overkill. A 15" Air would absolutely fit the bill. And most PC brands have BOTH performance 15" notebooks as well as ultrabooks when what you really want is an ultrabook, but with a larger screen. I think there is definitely a market for a 15" MacBook Air.

I'm more or less with you on that. I thought it was cool when they did it with the 16" MacBook Pro. I think it could be cool with the 14" MacBook Pro. But I don't see it as being at all necessary in either case and/or with the Air. Would much rather more ports and the option for active cooling. FaceID (in addition to pre-existing TouchID) would also be a plus. But that is, by no means, a want that is exclusive to the MacBook Air. The 2-port 13" MacBook Pro could totally stand to gain that feature as well.

The ability to lift up the screen with one hand. Not sure when this change, but that’s really about the only thing which annoys me (a little) about my new MBA.
You should be able to, the hinges might be over-tight on your unit?

since i am still using the MacBook air from 2010 i like the wider bezel for sturdiness the extra ports are a must
even a smaller photo card like the dell xps sports.

"Other"

Nothing. No expectations no frustrations. I bought this after researching. Happy with my Purchase. Works great, I'm day two on my battery with 32% left. Screen is nice, bezels are fine, Camera is good enough for zoom calls. Not even using the ports I have except to connect from time to time, my LG external 4K monitor which charges when I plug in.

MagSafe.
I guess that counts in the 'More Ports' category - though strictly speaking, putting all the ports back would be my choice there. The need for a substantial dongle to replace what was once on the Air irritates me no end - and the assumption that (especially as a mobile device in a travel / work environment) you'll find Wi-Fi connectivity to the net or peripherals is hopeful, at best.

Bigger screen option would be great for a lot of people as honestly most people don't need a "Pro" laptop, they just want the bigger screen.

A screen with smaller bezels could accomplish a bigger screen in the same/similar form factor so there is always that.

That being said "thinner and lighter" would make the device less usable. I would argue the device could actually stand to be a bit chunkier which would make it easier to use, for example not have it be screen-heavy and tip backwards when you use it on your lap, etc.

Why not just jump right up to the 16" screen size? That would be my ideal laptop - a MacBook Air Max.
I thought 15.0* to 15.4** might be more likely based on the perception - Apple could then have the 16” still be ‘bigger and better’ in people’s minds. You could then also have the Air line at 13 and 15 inch with the Pro line at 14 and 16 inch, but really either way would be good for me :) I’d also be very happy to see a 17” Mac laptop of any sort return to the lineup, though I can imagine the price would be astronomical if it sits above the 16”!

* same as the surface laptop 15
** same as the previous MBP

I agree that almost anything bigger than 13” would be a great addition to the MBA line. It seems like having two sizes of MBA’s would be a natural extension, much like the MBP’s offer 13” and 16”. I would bet it’s much more likely to come to fruition now that Apple controls their own chip development. Crossing my fingers...

I work professionally with Skype and FaceTime all day, and the difference in quality when someone is using an iPad at their end is huge. I want my clients to see the same quality as that when I'm using my Air.
