Does the watch do the sleep tracking itself or do you still need to have your iphone running all night? I'm interested in a "smart alarm" that will wake me up during light sleep but don't want to run the app on my phone all night. Also sleep with my watch in airplane, dnd and theater mode.

$29.99 a year for an app that tracks and buzzes you, plus a few minor things.. plenty of free apps that already do this. Good grief talk about a ripoff. This is the prime reason I hate app subscriptions, overall they are a major scam.

Good grief, I wonder if those folks at Sleep Cycle put much thought in it.

The problem habitual snorers face is frequent arousals throughout the nght, keeping them from going through a solid staged sleep pattern, ultimately leading to daytime drowsiness fatigue and a host of other niceties.

And increasing arousals by means of a watch poking you every other minute will rather serve to increase those issues.

If I wear my watch while I sleep, when am I supposed to charge it?
I have two charge towers for my Apple Watch. I take off the watch when i shower to charge. I also take off my watch at work and charge at my desk. I rarely run out of juice thankfully.

I'm tempted to try it, but I'd have to change my charging routine. I have the AliveCor Kardia band in order to detect afib, and running that program uses more battery. My series 3 only has about 10% left at the end of the day.

Nice to see Apple bought Beddit. I've been using that for sleep tracking, and I'm pretty pleased with it (though it doesn't seem to work as well since I got a Tempur-Pedic bed, so either it's falling apart or it doesn't like the Tempur mattress).

My personal experience is if I have my apple watch or iphone by my side during sleeping I would not sleep well and wake up tired because of some bad dreams which I believe is caused by the higher radiation from the device that disturbs my brain. So I turned them into airplane mode (should have lower radiation and totally prevent anybody especially spam wake me up at night) and have better sleep since. If the snore stopper works on airplane mode that would be useful to me.

Thin? Flexible? Sounds perfect for an Apple Watch band.

As for sleep tracking, does the new Apple Watch actually last long enough to do that and charge up fast enough in the morning while showering? I'm still on Series 0 and it usually dies between 7-10pm depending on how much longer than 30 minutes I exercised that day—and that's after I've optimized all the settings for battery efficiency. I'm hoping the rumors about a slightly bigger display are true because it means we could get a bigger battery. mLED would also be cool because that could help cut down on battery drain even more. Isn't mLED a lot brighter than OLED, so you could theoretically run it in a lower power state to have equivalent brightness?

Yes, I switched from S0 to S3 about two months ago. I cannot believe the difference! I charge mine when I get up and let it charge while I shower and get ready for work.

Yup… I have a first gen Apple Watch 38mm. When I get up at 8 to be in the office at 9:30 it’s dead by the time I arrive at home around 6. After not doing anything than checking notifications like 10 times. This means I need to charge it at home before doing an evening workout or carge it in the office. Since it dies after 10 hours I can’t sensibly use it as an alarm clock, even if i charge it fully right before I go sleep.

This means this app is dead on arrival.

Apple… please give me an Apple Watch with pebble battery life. At least a week.

This really makes me want to trade my Series 2 in now.

It’s worth the upgrade. The speed difference is also immense. There is almost no noticeable lag anywhere. I have Series 2 and 3 (because I wanted both colors) and it’s day and night when I swap the two. And Siri speaks! Admittedly she’s so useless I only use her for timers and weather but still!

How does this app distinguish between the snoring of the wearer and a bed partner? Seems impossible. So if you haven't been awakened by someone else's snoring, your watch will finish the job. Speaking of which, how can they claim that you won't be woken by the wrist vibration? Some people can sleep soundly through earthquakes, while others are jolted awake by crickets chirping.

Meh I’ll give this one a go, have been testing Autosleep and Sleep++ so may as well add this one to the mix.
Autosleep is the best one so far for accuracy, but the auto notification of your nights sleep in Sleep ++ when you unlock your iPhone is useful.

Put it on airplane and theatre mode and charge it for an hour before bed. Juices up quickly. I’ve used sleep tracking on my Apple Watch since the day I bought it and have never had any issues with battery life.

How long do you shower? :D

My AW takes about an hour to fully charge!
Is showering the only thing you need to do to get ready in the mornings?

does the watch app work automatically, like autosleep?

i used Sleep Cycle for years until I got my apple watch....then switched to autosleep and have been quite impressed with it. not seeing any reason to switch back.
I'm willing to give this a go for the snore stopping feature alone. AutoSleep also can't wake you and their AutoWake app is anything but "auto".

yeah i dont snore and don't trust any 3rd party app to wake me up. i use the native alarm.

Went to bed with 100% battery- AW Series 2
All night long I was snoring mainly because I got sick and my nose was stuck.
The watch kept vibrating on my hand - pretty annoying honestly and I woke up extremely tired - I could not rest properly.

In the morning the battery showed 82%

And yes.- the watch vibrated to tell me to Stand-Up.....

I will not repeat tonight this mainly because I haven't slept at all - stupid vibrations....

I’m looking forward to this! Before getting an Apple Watch I wore a watch all day and night except in the shower since I was a little kid. Although I’ve come to find that my wrist doesn’t get the weird deep indents/shiny looking skin since I take it off for the night. I swear though that my left wrist is slightly deformed or something from wearing a metal watch at least 23.5 hours per day from 1993–2015.

Ok. I tried this last night.

42mm S3 Watch.
iPhone 7.

I snored for 28minutes. I can believe that. My girlfriend isn’t too happy when she goes to sleep on the sofa.

Thoughts:

It killed my watch battery. I use DND overnight. I charged the watch before bed to 100%. Woke up at 45%. (I can usually get 2-3 days out of one charge to 100% on my watch.)

It used approx 17% of my phone battery. (I left my phone on charge overnight but at some point turned the switch off so actual phone battery usage is unknown.)

I like the idea of the snore reducing feature. I only remember being “buzzed” once by my watch. My sleep quality felt the same as any other night.

The only downside I can see is the battery usage.. I’m guessing the more you snore .. the more battery it’ll use.

I’d like to try another app if any can help reduce snoring?

I would be happy to pay the annual subscription at £30 per year but can not justify the battery usage. The first 30 days are free so I will continue to test and then decide whether to sub or not.

I'm glad I didn't have to scroll far to find the obvious question. I don't own an Apple Watch and even I'm aware of this flaw!
It's not a flaw. I'm a new AW user and I thought the same as you. The answer has been provided by others above. You simply drop it on the dinky little charger while you're having a shower, eating breakfast. Perhaps for a short while before you go to bed and slip it on just before you sleep. What I thought was a big issue is actually a non-issue.

how do you know they are accurate if you are sleeping when they are recording your sleep patterns?

You want the battery life of a pebble without looking like a pebble? An honest comparison to your ask is to say you want a color tv look from your black and white tv.

Like so many others here, I charge while I shower and get ready and that is it for a week. My charger is on my sink. I start at 100% and wake to 96% or higher using AutoSleep, DND, Theatre Mode and silent alarm - every night. By the second night with a hour workout daily, some LTE, I am around 60% battery. I wake the next morning to 50-52%. I charge when I shower and get ready and it is back to around 90-95% and each day is gets back up to 75-80, 65, 55,45,etc. I do this for 6-7 days before it needs a 1 1/2 to 2 hour charge. Series 3 of course, but my son has a series 2 with the same everything and gets about 5-6 days between charges.

Unless you wear your Apple Watch when you shower, why not set it on the charger on the table or sink? What do you do with your other watches when you shower- if you wear one? Set it down on the table or sink?

Because I know what time I turn my lift off and put my head down and what time my alarm goes off........
The rest is based in the sensors and algorithms and comparing data.

Anyway I installed this Sleep Cycle and didn’t finish setting it up before uninstalling as it requires your phone to be face down and flat. I can’t do that because of the charging stand I use.

I also would not pay the price they want for it either!

To be honest we don't know. We just assume they are accurate. Unless you have a partner watching your movements while sleeping and comparing it to the app, there is no way of knowing.

I used a miband, apple watch (autosleep), fitbit, garmin to test one night and they all had completely different results. I can't even test any of them because I am sleeping they they do their thing!
