It's very difficult to find an appropriate looking replacement for the stock radio for classic cars. Most everything looks all flashy and inappropriate. This looks like a nice try. Honestly, I have a problem with CarPlay on even modern cars as it always looks like someone grafted an iOS device into the car. I would prefer if there were some options to tone down or change the colors or something.

And as some others have said, if you think $1,000 is a lot of money to anyone who owns something like this is targeted at, it's because you don't own one yourself. Not that classic car people can't be cheap.

I love it. I have a 911 convertible. 993 version. I put in a new stereo some years ago. It looks horrible. This will definitely be a much better fit. Porsche original with the classic look. A must have for me.

Oh man, I wish I had a classic Porsche 911. I’d probably want a classic Blaupunkt in it though, as much as I love CarPlay.

That's super clean!

imo Apple should pair with Pioneer or Alpine and offer CarPlay regular sized head units. Would sell like hotcakes

Agree on all counts, though I'd "settle" for a 928 too. ;)

I'm not the target market in any case, but I think this is a cool idea, and if you have the scratch - why not? My only issue with it is I just don't think it looks that much more appropriate than any other modern DIN head unit. IMHO the color LCD is what makes it really jarring - merely having knobs is not necessarily the solution for period aesthetics in this case.

If you have the cash to own a Porsche, or Maserati , or Bentley, you certainly don’t care about repairs costs.

A Maserati is available on lease special for $600/mo new and older models (but still modern) can be had for $15,000. An old 911 is generally a $30-50,000 affair. These aren't millionaire cars. They are BARELY even aspirational anymore in an era of $75,000 pickup trucks. Of course the buyers care about repair costs.

Why not go aftermarket? Seems to be many that will fit that car.
Most modern cars (including the ninth generation Accord) no longer use DIN slots that you can just upgrade the stereo with. The stereo systems are completely integrated into the car, and either require professional upgrades, and/or external systems that look out of place.

As an owner of a Porsche 996 this is great. Allows you to keep your car with a "factory" Porsche look with out having to put some janky head unit in that was never designed for the car and doesn't fit very well.

Other manufacturers should really do this but most are not interested in keeping their older cars on the road as Porsche is.
I bought a 997 last year. Love that they did this for Din 1 sizes for old Porsches. I was able to put a Kenwood with Wireless CarPlay and a matching trim piece into my 1997. And wire in a backup camera. Integrated with my steering controls and Bose subwoofer and amp. Sounds great. Looks great. I’m not sure this is actually better. But good for them for doing it. I like the first ad way better than the 2nd.

My Honda service rep just chuckled when I asked him if there was a CarPlay factory add-on for my 2014 Accord. 😡
I recently added a Pioneer in dash unit to our 2014 CR-V to get CarPlay. It interfaces with steering wheel controls. Under 450 for everything. I installed in an hour.

I wish BMW would do this. I have a '91 850i that I'd love to put one of these in - it's nearly impossible to find a period correct Blaupunkt with an aux-in input, let alone Bluetooth integration. As for putting in something newer, the newer head units are horrible - they don't match the design or illumination of older cars.

Porsches tend to be pretty reliable - TCO on my 997.2 is lower than my E90 335i, so far. As with any European car, though, they do not take kindly to deferred maintenance, which explains why they get a bad rap in the US...

The DIN-1 unit is for sale in Canada now, abut $1,600. It sits in an area of the dash at an an angle where there is a lot of glare. Very hard to see, tiny GPS screen, entering destinations is quite complex.

I don't know much about the classic car game, but wouldn't adding this actually diminish the value of the car?
