I emailed Darin to ask if darker wood is something pre-orders can change before shipping, his response was:
"Yes, an email will go out to all orders before shipping, so they can be modified. Photos coming as soon as humanly possible. We are literally sleeping in shifts to get this perfected and into high production mode. (and VERY EXCITED!!!)"
Must .... resist .... dark .... wood.
Honestly, the thing holding me back is that, at some point, my 4 year old or 2 year old will grab the iPad when I'm not looking. And at that point, I need the case to act as a savior.
If I was about 10 years further along with them, it'd be a no-brainer. But, and this is the desire talking, I may be reaching past the point of no return and forget how the little ones may handle it.
My son, now 2 1/2 has been playing with my iPad 1 since launch day. The rule in our house is "only on the couch" which he respects. Same goes for the iPhone. We really try to hammer home with him to "respect your toys, books, etc" and his school follows the same lesson, it works wonders.
I had the Portenzo case for my iPad 1 and it worked well in my son's lap, cover folded back. I wouldn't let a 2 year old hold me back from purchasing this wonderful case.
I know cases like these and the Dodo are popular but I don't really understand the desire to all thickness and weight to the iPad. I mean the reason I bought the iPad2 is b/c it was thinner and lighter. What is the pull here? -- not being facetious, just curious.
So, do you guys like the strap or not? I kinda like the strap on my dodocase (But thinking of going portenzo this round)...
For me it's just differen't priorities for different usage scanarios. If I'm carrying my iPad to work or using it while i'm more mobile, I like something like this case (also looking at http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=5764&t_mode=des) that has a nice professional look, but that I can also shove into my backpack without worrying about scratching up the screen or back. Still slim and easy to hold without dropping, easy to handle while on the move (I like the 'book' like way of holding it). Also if you DO drop it, it's not the best protection in the world, but will still absorb some of the impact and keep it from getting scratched up. Easy to put it in/take out.
When I'm at home, work, or a friends house though, I would go no case all the way though and take advantage of the great design
Edit:
Actually I will say that I don't get the love for dodocase though (i never had the first gen ipad though). To me it just looks like an old textbook or yearbook from the 80's...
You left your iPad sitting on the bar while you went to take a whiz????I was at a bar in my hotel. I had my ipad 1 in the Portenzo composition notebook sitting on the bar. I went to the bathroom and came back and opened it up.

Just how drunk were you?
