Portenzo iPad 2 Case: Now a Smart Cover

Anyone order the 23.5? What's your opinions on it? I just ordered the 23.5 yesterday, god knows how long it will take to get. At least the jailbreak isn't out yet otherwise a little part of me will die inside everyday.

yes I will send mine back after I receive the replacement. Someone said they should keep it so that your ipad is protected... its actually dangerous for me to have the case on because the ipad is falling out of it... almost fell out on concrete the other day but I caught it.
 
Does anyone have the exact dimensions of the Portenzo iPad 2 moleskin case? I'm looking to buy a briefcase and I'm curious what exactly it measures at.
 
Got home from a road trip and found my case at my doorstep. I won't post any pics as it is pretty standard - Levant/linen/magnetic latch/stylus.My thoughts:
1. very nice fit and quality - some layers of the natural wood are darker than others - I night stain it but the mill work is done well
2. ipad fits very well.very tight
3. I like the stylus loop, adds less width than the TG case I have, and is simple and effective.

all in all a nice case - I see it as equal to my octavo, a bit ahead of the TG but the TG has more panache to it and still good quality.

I now have all three cases in front of me and I am very impressed with all of them and any decision anyone makes will work for them. There is not enuf diff to worry about. for a friggin ipad case.

Love my 23.5. It has not gotten marked, dirtied, or shown any signs of wear after a month use. You will not be disappointed.

Don't understand how the release of a jb would correlate to an increased longing for a the case though :confused:
 
as I posted above, got my case this week and after looking at it for a day or so, the wood looks unfinished to me, it either needs an edge in gloss or stain, have not decided yet which one., but needs a sealed look. I have worked with finishes and wood for years so this is as simple as taping it off and using a small brush and some spar urethane. I'll post the final look tomorrow or monday. Probably will take 2 -3 coats to look perfect.

My ipad 2 is not getting much usage due to no jb, that's why I'm not fretting over the case taking a long time to get to my door step. If the jb was released I'd actually carry it around and use it.

However, I have a track record of harming my goods when it's not protected, so I doubt I'd carry the ipad beyond my front door with out some form of a case.

I'm not prepared to drop another 30-40 dollars just so I can carry my ipad around however.....

That's what I was thinking looking at pictures of the cases. They would look very nice with a sealed, semi-glossy finish to wood.
 
alright im really considering buying this case after all the research i've done. the only things i cant decide on are color and magna strip.

anyone know how dark the red is? cameras are very tricky and i feel like the red is going to be pretty bright.

as for the magna strip, if i don't get the strap, is it hard to put on a table landscape position?

P.S o yea how long has shipping taken generally?

I'm getting my case soon. I was thinking about painting the wood to black to match my black ipad2. What would you suggest for wood paint (suppose you have years of experience).

BTW. let us know your outcome with your case.
 
It hard to see but the sealed wood just does not look raw now...two coats of spar urethane gloss with gloss knocked off with 0000 steel wool:

Black is easy if you want gloss...rust oleum will work fine...two light coats if you know how to spray. Matte is a bit harder with black and then satin clear....The real key is the tape up job, once you get it taped right, the rest is easy.

as far as above, I'd have to do some experimentation on like wood but painting Thompson water seal also may do the trick. I really like the slightly darker look it gives the layers...

You are correct that the color is hard to tell by pictures since you never know whether the color has been edited. I agree that the red is fairly bright by the pics that I have seen.

As for the magna strip, if i don't get the strap, is it hard to put on a table landscape position?

I would think that it is safe to assume that the book would not function well on a slick surface in the landscape mode with just the magna grip, you would definetley need the elastic for that.

Appears to be 6-8 weeks depending on what you pick, I have been following their facebook page and it seems to be improving each week. They must be getting a system down or hiring more help???

Well to give you an idea I ordered a Morocco case (Camera Hole/Magna+Strap/Embossing/Dark Blue Linen) on 3/28 (order 69XX)... my credit card was charged 4/22 and I still haven't seen shipping.
I have emailed 2x inquiring about the status of my case (4/22 and 5/10) and last week (5/11) I got a response from them:

"Ivan,

This should be completed before the end of next week. Thank you for your patience.

Scott"

So I'm hoping that my case makes it out this week (as yesterday was the 7 week mark since ordering)

Update....in front of 50 people in a training session, the ipad fell out of the portenzo after just opening it up. Yes it was tight this morning at breakfast.

Not happy....top right corner completely loose after 5 days use and 3 or 4 mountings...

Hope your Ipad is OK. This is what worries me about these types of cases in general - that eventually the method of holding the Ipad will weaken. I have a Portenzo, and it is fine now. Had to send my Treegloo back and am waiting for a replacement. Not sure if I really want to use either as my primary case. Vaja anyone? :).

Mine has the same problem in the same corner. I emailed them two weeks ago and have not heard anything back from them.
 
Is there a For Sale/Trade section of this forum? I do not see one and am wondering if the process is banned.

I keep on reading that people have the option to select either a Moleskin or Levant case for their Portenzo... but when I ordered one, I didn't see an option to choose one? I ordered the "Notebook Style" case. Is there a different one I should be looking at? Or is this option only available for the Ipad 1?

Back when the iPad came out, there WAS an option to choose which skin you would get, as we went through the supply crisis, Portenzo decided to just stick with one, Morocco. So if you order a Notebook case, most likely you will get a Morocco case.

That must of been pretty embarrassing. Contact the vendor; they should give u your $ back.

Did anyone laugh?
