What I find funny is that analyst says new iphone will have curved glass edges to blend to back panel and the next day front panal appears with tapered edges that will 'blend into the front panal'

Why didn't we see these before with the previous leaks?

because replacing a $4-600 device after an accident really sucks. and yes, accidents happen, even to people who take care of their devices. you cannot make accidents impossible, which is why you drive a car with airbags and seat belts.

glad i could clear that up for you!

I always take insurance so no need for protection in case of accidents. So ...

The whole point of quartzglass and gorilla Glass are to make screen protectors obsolete. My iPhone 5 hasn´t had a screen protector and it doesnt have a scratch after numerous drops and attempted scratches by keys in my pockets.

With the quality of current display panels there is no need anymore for screen protectors.

Yeah, I really don't understand all the screen protector nonsense.

I really never understood why people spend all this money on a gorgeous phone only to spend more money covering it up and life proofing it with crappy plastics. Why? I hope it has that glass, it looks sexy as hell.

Naked and not afraid here. Have been with all my phones 4 and up. No regrets and never any damage.

Yep.

I had a screen protector on my iPhone 4S... and I was never really happy with it.

I'm naked and afraid on my 5S and I actually prefer it.

EDIT: I still use a case... Tech21 case... but no screen protection.

Haven't read all the comments, so sorry if this was already talked about.

There where cutouts for the front camera lens, should this be interpreted as evidence that there will NOT be sapphire glass for the screen, or is it simply that the camera requires a special lens?

This is just a thought, and I certainly hope it's not true, sapphire glass sounds sexy!

But seatbelts and airbags protect human life. If you work in an environment where your phone is likely to get damaged (a construction site for example) or you use your device underwater, extravagant cases make sense. For everyone else, insurance is probably a better (and cheaper) option.

I really don't understand the screen protectors at all. I have not had one on a phone in 5 years and have never had a visible scratch. They will not protect the screen from breaking. So, what is the point. I should add, I usually have an Apple leather case on my 5s because I like the color.

Insuring a phone makes even less sense than screen protectors. The risk that you need the insurance is so low that it makes more sense from a financial point of view to just take the hit of a repair or new purchase. Unless you drop your phone once every year and break it that is.

Never insure something you can easily replace.

I hope that it doesn't have the curved glass. These are terrible.

Samsung did this on the Galaxy S3 and switched back to flat on the S4 and S5.

It is impossible to have a screen protector that looks decent. Even protectors with curved edges just aren't the same.:(

Yup; going to be very difficult with glass screen protectors which I love dearly. I bought an $8 ebay glass screen protector 9 months ago and it's still like new today. Terrible idea to put a curve in a display unless Apple replaces displays with scratches at no charge.

I really don't see too much of a difference. It's too bad I feel like they could have fit a 5inch screen in that form factor. :/

Only reason I have a case on my 5S is because it's a battery case and helps me make it throughout the day without recharging.

As far as glass back.. I don't care if it's all glass, or all aluminum, I just hope it's all one thing. The two tone look is just nasty. I hate the 5/5S because of that. The 4/4S is easily the sexiest design on an iPhone so far.

Don't know about you, but over here a phone would be covered by home insurance, or travel insurance if you are traveling. No need to pay anything extra. You'll take the hit in the deductible, though.

 BORING!

This site has gone to the dogs - who actually gives a crap how big this display is going to be?

Instead of essential facts - this site is now in for the top Google hit list.

You should be ashamed to even have 'Mac' as part of your site name.

Sorry, Gorilla glass absolutely DOES scratch. Corning themselves even say scratch resistant, not proof. Sand will scratch it. Not everyone lives where there is sand, but many of us do. I use a glass protector I got for 5 bucks us, I can't even tell it has anything on it. The kids get my phone when I am done with it (and it may be 3 years from now), I WILL use a glass protector until then.

How tough? Gorilla® Glass 3 with NDR enables improved damage resistance and toughness compared to former glass compositions and is up to three times more damage resistant than Gorilla Glass 2. This type of Native Damage Resistance is a unique feature of Gorilla® Glass 3. Something Corning is able to provide due to a proprietary glass composition that is better able to resist the deep scratches that cause glass to break.

Take keys and try to scratch your iphone, you will see that the glass won't scratch!
Cheap plastic will so the lesson is on you!
