I think the fact that all these manufacturers are releasing phones that they are touting as "iPhone Beaters" or "iPhone Rivals" speaks volumes for the impact Apple has had on the cosy world of cellphone manufacturers.
I bet Steve Ballmer's not laughing any more ;)

I had to smile that the "Mobility Briefing Center" that this article is part of is sponsored by Windows Mobile

Why is it that everybody seems to forget the biggest draw to the iphone. No it's not the amazing interface. No it's not the amazing web browsing. No it's not the CAMERA. No it's not the multitouch. No it's not even the app store!

Those things help build it into the greatest phone ever, sure. But the biggest draw for the iphone is the fact that it's an ipod. Plan and simple. ipods have become synonymous with mp3. They hold, what like over 75% of the market?

Now with the phone/ipod combo they will begin to dominate the cell phone industry.

Touche.

When the App Store is launched on July 11th, every competitor out there trying to make an "iPhone killer" will just need to stop. That will set everything off. No other company can do anything remotely close to it...

The reason why the iPhone is ace is it's interface, Apple's got awesome software engineers.

Look at the Sony Ericsson software, yes it has some of iPhones missing features, and they make great phones, it doesn't compare with iPhone OS X does it?

As Mr Jobs said, "Baby Software"

P.S. Not picking on SE, I prefer their phones and software when compared with Nokia, Siemens & Motorola.

Amen brother. SE definitely has the next best cellphone UI which is sad because it's miles from the iPhone UI, which just feels so natural to use.

The comments made at the website are hard to read. There are so many people who are hating on the iPhone, and I'm surprised.

I don't see what makes this phone better than the iPhone besides the camera.
Someone on the site even had the nerve to say the Internet browsing on the iPhone isn't that great.

Ignorance at its best. I wonder how many of these people who are insulting the iPhone have actually used it, and how many are little immature little kids who can't afford either phone.

The Dare has arrived. I have to wait for my partner to come home to activate it, but I took some side by side pics.

the iPhone re-invented the phone. Look at all these other "touch phones" and they all look, feel, and work as similar to the iPhone as they can legally get away with.

If you ask me, any of those "iPhone killers" or threats out there are just knockoffs. Sure, some may have a few different features, but I'm sure those narrow gaps will be filled with the new App Store.

The only reason anyone would get the LG Dare is if they morbidly hate ATT or are too deep into Verizon to get out.

You know the LG Prada came out before the iPhone was even unveiled, don't you.

Everyone if forgetting something here.

1. Apple has made a GREAT product in the iPhone
2. Other companies trying to offer the other carriers (non AT&T) a competing product to use is great since Apple won't. Just look at how many are trying to unlock and Jailbreak iPhones so they can only use a portion of the features on other Carriers plans.
3. Competition is GREAT for us iPhone users.
a. It drives Apple to offer more stuff like features (cut 'n paste), better camera, MMS, & etc.
b. Competion keeps prices fair.

So, come on other companies. Keep trying. It's good for us if you come out with an awesome product that stirs Apple.

Edit: After posting, it looks like several of us caught the same points.

You've made some very valid points. I agree :D

Doubt it since they're completely different products with completely different purchase terms.

There is one thing that all these phones are missing. An App Store! That alone will make me stay with my iPhone. I see bigs things ahead!

I took his comment about knockoffs to be referring to the software. That keyboard interface was pretty silly how much of an ugly copy of the iPhone that was. Hardware design is one thing. Of course the iPhone looks like the Prada on the outside--How much different can phones look when they are designed to be as small as possible and have a screen on the whole face?

The home screen is disappointing too--Why is it not on a grid, like every other phone, ever? That's just childish.

I thought the Dare ad Prada are almost the same phone.

I do agree that the keyboard does look chunky. I also don't like the fact you only have one line of text while typing. I am eager to play with it once it is activated.

Exactly.... that is the same feeling I am getting from all of this.

On a spec-for-spec basis, the Dare beats the iPhone, and costs the same, $200. For the real multimedia maven, the Dare is the phone to beat.

1. What the iPhones features are and what he thinks the iPhones features are is not the same thing. 2. "Real multimedia mavens" are a really numerous and important customer group. The Dare will probably sell to hundreds, maybe even to dozens of them.
