Nice! My launch day XS Max is STILL at 100%. Only 3 more payments and it's all mine. It'll make a great backup phone for whatever i decide to get come October.

An XS Max for a backup phone? Why don’t you sell it to recoup some money to buy the 12?

Yes, the new SoC will be more efficient than last generation as always. The batteries usually do go slightly smaller from generation to generation with the exception from the 11 series...BUT it is all about the profit margins.
Once Apple started to include faster wall chargers with their premium phones, they now will remove them obviously to sell at a premium. They will push the ewaste “save the earth” theory with old chargers to oversee the fact of they are removing better chargers and to sell their new wireless chargers. IMO They should do a recycling program for the old chargers instead of removing all chargers from new phones but there is no money there for apple.

Side note: I have zero battery issues with my launch 11 Pro and in my use case has the best battery life I ever had on any phone.

My money's on the finalised 12 lineup looking something like this (names are tentative):

1. iPhone 12 Mini, 5.4” 60 Hz LCD, 4G only, 4 GB RAM, 2 cameras (Primary + Ultra Wide), no LiDAR, 2,227 mAh battery [new model, diversification of non-Pro line into 2 sizes]

2. iPhone 12 Plus, 6.1” 60 Hz LCD, 4G only, 4 GB RAM, 2 cameras (Primary + Ultra Wide), no LiDAR, battery capacity unknown but > 3,100 mAh (more than the 11, at the bare minimum) [successor to Xr and 11]

3. iPhone 12 Pro Mini, 5.4” 60 Hz OLED, 5G-equipped, 6 GB RAM, 3 cameras (Primary + Ultra Wide + Telephoto), LiDAR unlikely, 2,775 mAh battery [new model, diversification of Pro line into 3 sizes]

4. iPhone 12 Pro, 6.1” 60 Hz OLED, 5G-equipped, 6 GB RAM, 3 cameras (Primary + Ultra Wide + Telephoto), LiDAR unlikely, 3,687 mAh battery, OLED [enlarged successor to X, Xs, and 11 Pro]

5. iPhone 12 Pro Max, 6.7” 60 Hz OLED, 5G-equipped, 6 GB RAM, 3 cameras (Primary + Ultra Wide + Telephoto), LiDAR likely, 4,400+ mAh battery, OLED [enlarged successor to Xs Max and 11 Pro Max]

I strongly believe that the inconsistency we've seen in back camera arrays on dummy 5.4" models (some have 2, some have 3) comes down to the fact that there will indeed be two 5.4" models, both with different screens, battery sizes, modems (4G/5G), and of course, camera specs.

I love it when Apple virtue-signals about the privacy, the environment and social justice to market their products and increase profits.
I seriously doubt anyone at Apple cares about any of the things they talk about, but if it helps reel in suckers, then I, as a shareholder, approve.

What's your strategy heading into earnings release at the end of the month given current news?

I'm sticking with my strategy of 2 AAPL, 2 MSFT, $500 AMZN stock splice, and the rest in VOO every paycheck. Whether they go up or down for a few days doesn't matter to me. I don't day-trade.

At least there's a chance that they will get a bit lighter and/or thinner. The 11 Pro Max is a heavy boy.

No it's not.I've got small hands and I've no problem handling it. The first week was difficult, after that you don't even notice it anymore (if you take the time to find a good case, that is). The battery life is the only reason for me to use it. I will not go back to anything less than that. It barely survives a full day in my use. I had to recharge iPhone X 2-3 times every day so it wouldn't run out of juice.

Those without battery issues are the ones who buy their phones for status items, not for actual use.

At least I know I don't need to bother to even consider upgrading this time around. Will have to see how long the 11PM survives. Possibly they'll make another good model 3-4 years from now.

The recent iPhones were getting heavy. I'm all for a smaller lighter battery with a more efficient SOC

And you're ok with the battery draining in moments when you actually have to do some heavy lifting on your phone, or when you end up in a place with poor coverage? I'm not. That already happened with a few of the newer Macbooks and as people do more and more photo and video editing straight on the phone the power IS needed. I don't care how long it lasts with some light browsing, browsing IG and reading a mail or two. I care that it can do all I need it to do all through the day, providing a hotspot to my other devices when required and still have enough juice to work until I get home late at night. I don't have chargers where I'm going.

Given the new chip set i imagine the battery life should be seen as the same quality. LTPO next year will mean apple won’t need to put in a huge battery chip to work with pro motion.

iPad Pro 10.5" (2017): 8134 mAh
iPad Pro 11" (2018): 7812 mAh

iPad Pro 12.9" (2017): 10875 mAh
iPad Pro 12.9" (2018): 9720 mAh

Oh, the huge manatee!

Intentionally done as to have a bigger battery for iPhone 13. Damn shame that , was hoping for battery same as the 11 pro max or bigger. Not bloody smaller on 5G.

Why not carry a fast charge power bank with you? I don't use my XR for work and when I'm not working I don't live on my phone like some people do. As a result my phone last 2+ days on a charge.

I know that certainly isn't a headliner, but it's a fact. The 4-5 hours longer battery life of the 11 Pro came from the physically much larger batteries because they made the phone 0.4 mm thicker and made the motherboard much more compact. People said it was thanks to the removal of the 3D Touch hardware but I don't think that was the case. That hardware barely occupied any space in the phone and the weight difference between the iPhone 8 that has the 3D Touch hardware and the new SE that does not is like ~1g.

Apple really need to step up their game in the charging department. My main phone is an iPhone, but I have an android for a work phone. It’s a realme x2 pro. This thing has 4000mah, lasts forever, and it comes with a 50W power brick that can charge the phone from 0-100% in 28 minutes. Now that would be awesome if Apple comes up with something like that.
I hope with the removal of the charger from the box means there’ll be a very high output charger accessory from apple.

The only problem with 28 minutes of charging 0-100% is that your battery is not going to retain much of its design capacity after a year or two. People keep their iPhones forever.

That said, my 11 Pro Max charges fairly fast with the 18W USB C brick, (or my MBP chargers). I'm glad it slows way down after 80% to trickle charge.

I’d rather pay $50 bucks changing the battery every 2 years just to have this feature on future iPhones. Actually, that 50W charger isn’t charging a single battery, the technology inside it is the charger charges 2 parallels batteries inside, each being charged with a 25w power, so the battery wear wouldn’t be much difference than the upcoming 20w iPhone charger. Isn’t that a brilliant engineering?
