I'd just say one thing doubting the authenticity of this 'leak'

Remember the iPad? It was already announced, they had shown it off on a stage, and they still required their select few developers to use them chained to a desk in a closed-off room. Really, I can't imagine them letting the engineers run off to the pub with an unreleased iPhone.

Wouldn't it be possible that if it's a prototype, then it would have extra storage to store diagnostic information, logs and such? But then it wouldn't see the extra space, would it? So it would still show 64GB of storage.

If they had a lead room, and booted it inside of there at first, the remote wipe command wouldn't be able to get to it. Shame on them :p

Reminds me of an SE phone.

I was thinking its real (prototype) looks like the leaked slightly longer black front casing.

But the 80GB is just plain wrong. but then i was thinking, how the hell do they know its 80gb, the back says xxGB and they say they can't turn it on. maybe that bit of information is just incorrect.

Apparently the sim card slot is on the side now, you can see it in the pic above. But probably fake.

credit goes to "tbran10" from Engadget for finding this.

No, a fake, show the screen turned on.

Also take it apart see whats inside, maybe just an iphone 3gs with the beta 4.0 in a funky case to make us all get excited. lol, they have done a horrible job.

The side buttons don't vibe right with the Apple design... prototype or fake, it's exciting to see what the possibilities could be...

I would love to see some more use of aluminum similar to the iPad beveling.

maybe they're using 2 nand chips in there? 1 64GB and 1 16GB? That would explain how it has 80GBs, whether or not it's possible I'm not actually sure. The design definitely is rather ugly though, so if it's real, I sure hope it isn't final.

That is what I tought!

"and isn't booting at this point (though it was previously, and running an OS that was decidedly new)"

might have been remotely wiped.

If Apple released this phone today you guys would be going crazy about so sick this thing is.

This thing is beautiful though. Love it

I agree.

And I believe the "seams" are just a mark of a prototype. Perhaps for easy access to the internals of the phone. I have no idea.

After the 3G(s) was the exact design of the 3G I am looking forward to something new. After all, the entire point of a new Apple product is to be as flamboyant and shiny as possible to let everyone around you know that they are inferior for not owning such a product yet, right? :D

I think the design is nice. However Apple is big about how a device feels in your hand. I feel something like this is going away from that.

It's interesting though. The front looks very much like the "leaked" front that came out a few months ago.

We will all know soon enough, but if I had to lean one way, I would say this isn't real.

There is NO chance thats a real apple iPhone...

1. 80gb of Storage? Why abandon 16/32/64gb etc style of memory
2. Its got seams! And for people who say its so you can REPLACE the battery, apple will NEVER allow that, see how adament they are about FLASH, they dont change their mind THAT easily!
3. It looks like a frigging BRICK!

If you also look at that twitpic (http://twitpic.com/14ge1m/full) the apple symbol on the back of the phone is different from the engadget pictures... how very strange huh?

Here's an upscaled version of that picture from a few posts up...

The bottom is similar, but not exactly the same as the one from Engadget:
iphone4back1.jpg

Notice the one from Twitter has longer speaker/mic holes but no screw holes, and the one from Engadget looks like the 3G/3GS.

That's very interesting. The sources don't appear to be the same, and the devices are too similar for this to be a coincidence. Also notable is the difference between the times they were leaked, the end of February and the middle of April. That's enough time for the design to be tweaked.

I wish someone would take a picture of the entire backing. I want to see if the camera has changed.

Interesting observation, this would make it seem more likely that this is some kind of prototype from Apple.

At best it's a prototype.

More than likely it's a fake.

Regardless, if we see this in June then I'll be disappointed. The look and style is that of a phone I would be embarrassed to use.

I think it looks great – sturdy and strong. Having a more boxed shaped design would allow for greater volume to place more tec inside. bring it.

Deliberately leaked fake?

Chinese clone?

...and all signs look to a release earlier than after WWDC (June, not July).

Apple feeling the competition (those HTC Desires are everywhere here at the moment)?
