Looks like aluminum to me.

Here is a Titanium phone for reference.

No way.

Ugly.

Seams are very noticeable

Square, Apple hates squares.

80GBs nope. There is not 80GB chips.

Chinese made POS attempt at a iphone

Doesn't work yea believable.

Doesn't fit apple design at all.

I would keep my 3GS over this ugly thing.

I'm not saying it's not fake, nobody knows but you know what a prototype is right? This could be an extremely early one for all we know. No where does it say this pic is the one that will be released. It could be one of 5 iterations for all we know. I agree that it has some weird stuff. The volume buttons seem random.

CAn someone who has done this verify this claim? I don't use mobile me.

It's been verified by others on Twitter. Remote wiped devices, just by common sense, should be able to be turned on so, if possible and desired, they could be tracked.

The fact that it doesn't turn on and that Engadget is reporting what looks like an updated OS based on what these people said really makes me believe it's fake. If it's real they should post pictures of it turned on.

Apple legal is down at the Palo Alto bar partying on Saturday night

Wait until Monday

Sh*T is gonna fly :D

How? No law against publishing pictures of a phone you find in a bar. It's not a copyright violation. It's not a trademark violation. It's nothing.

About all Apple legal can do is try and get the phone returned.

Differences between a prototype and a production design

In general, prototypes will differ from the final production variant in three fundamental ways:

Materials. Production materials may require manufacturing processes involving higher capital costs than what is practical for prototyping. Instead, engineers or prototyping specialists will attempt to substitute materials with properties that simulate the intended final material.

Processes. Often expensive and time consuming unique tooling is required to fabricate a custom design. Prototypes will often compromise by using more flexible processes.

Lower fidelity. Final production designs often require extensive effort to capture high volume manufacturing detail. Such detail is generally unwarranted for prototypes as some refinement to the design is to be expected. Often prototypes are built using very limited engineering detail as compared to final production intent.

it's a shame not more people will read this

Save

I don't know about you guys but I'm saving these pics in-case Apple makes Mac Rumors remove them.

Also, I think this is a mock-up iPhone made REALLY well.

Apple prototype devices have been leaked before and they typically are in the same chassis as what they'll be in or possibly a early revision of that chassis.

Unless this is extremely early in the development stage I don't think it really applies here.

Again, if it isn't turning on I'm not buying it. These people need to produce images of it turned on.

That's my theory, early prototype, or total BS. Someone should shove a charger in it.

Am I the only one that thinks the quality looks too good to be a knock-off? Also aren't knockoffs not allowed to have logos of the actual product at all?

Could be wrong on that second point but I remember hearing that somewhere.
