You don't think they could color match the software with white? I think they could and I would buy the red edition if it was available. Unlike previous generations, it would not be way too much white on the front.

Have you ever seen an iPhone with white front? I suppose you haven’t because there is a thin black border in between the display itself and those white/black bezels. It’s okay on the black version as you can’t really see that, but how can you software match this on the white one? It has to be black for the OLED to work unless they’ve figured out how to make these borders the same color as the front.

Idk. Maybe I'm the minority but I love the mentality of the earpiece screen cutout. I would much rather that space be utilized around it for something, and I'm sure they'll come up with a helpful use.

Plus it's probably temporary. It's similar to the antenna lines. They'll figure out out eventually.

Is this your first post you see about the so called iPhone 8? It won’t be visible at all and there is no “temporary” as well. It’s intended.

SO very bothered we still think that a phone launched next to the iPhone 7s will be called iPhone 8. 1) What marketing sense would that make? 2) the naming convention the rest of the line-up clearly predicts:

It's going to be called iPhone Pro!

No it won't be called that. You are probably right about 8 but a personal product such as an iPhone won't have a Pro in its name. It is not a working tool in contrast to a Mac Pro or iPad Pro.

I think it will be called the iPhone Edition.

Or the iPhone AE (anniversary edition)
AE stands for American Eagle.

Everyone knows that A.E. stands for After Earth (as in Titan)

My question is: what will they call the display? You know Apple, they often come up with a cool sounding name when they put in a feature that others had before them.

E.g. Retina Display, TouchId.

"Infinity" is already being used by LG and Samsung in reference to their displays, so what could Apple call theirs? Maybe "Eternity Display" (like Eternity Stone)? o_O

Didn't they stop giving SIM tools with the phone? Are they going to start again?
What? And lose all justification for that prescient investment in Liquid Metal? Next thing you know there'll be rumors that the sapphire screen is going away.

The rippling in the paper leads me to believe it’s standard letter paper that’s been printed out.

*edit* just looked at my 7 plus ejector page, and it’s on card stock with rounded edges.

I say this is just a fake print out.
Also, the colors are completely inverted from normal on this supposed leak.

Longer power button on the side, but still opposite the volume buttons. So here's to a continued future of changing the volume when trying to lock the screen.

So maybe it's not going to be just a power button... what if it's used as a power up button and a long press activates the power down... but it no longer acts as wake or sleep button (Touch ID does that, and auto sleep) but instead it's the camera shutter release?

I don't know if it will be called iPhone Pro or not (seems sensible enough to me...) but "not a working tool" ?! I think there are almost certainly far more people using an iPhone as a working tool than anything else Apple makes.

IMHO, if they can call an iPad an iPad Pro, they can call an iPhone an iPhone Pro.

More on topic, I hope this is all fake because I think that thing looks (relatively) ugly.

No, it isn't the first I've seen. It's my opinion, which you don't fully understand. There's really no need to be so rude. You don't actually know what they are intending, just as I don't. So you don't need to explain your perceived facts to me.

What a big stupid waste of paper for something so trivial.

True minimalists would NEVER do this!

Doomed!

PS: Whether this is fake or not is irrelevant in my opinion. There's so many leaks for that design it is probably (hopefully for me) what we are going to get. If we learn from past iPhone leaks it seems likely.

I don't get the 'hate' for this design, if this is the design and TouchID is built into the display then this would be the nicest looking and working (i)Phone ever.

As for the picture of the simtool included in this article, seems to be legit to me.

I'm starting to wonder whether we'll see:

iPhone 8
iPhone 8 Plus
iPhone Pro

There's been a few leaks and different rumours for iPhones launching this September, but nothing at all other than 'reports' saying there will be an iPhone 7S.

Let's say that's the final design. That is not a bezelless phone. That's bezels all round. With a cutout at the top. But look, we can squash in the signal bars and battery around it, wahey. Absolutely dreadful looking thing.

Sure there are still bezels with this design. But at least it gets rid of the "yuge" bezels of the chin and forehead.

Although... I've never been bothered by either bezel... especially the chin since it contains the very functional TouchID sensor and home button.

And lets be honest... the chin is smaller than the width of my thumb. Are we really bothered by this?

I was listening to a recent podcast and they were discussing all the possible places where the TouchID sensor could go if it's not on the front anymore: on the back, somehow magically under the screen, etc.

After many minutes... they rewound the discussion to: "why exactly is it leaving the front?"

Look... I think "bezel-less" phones look great.

But not at the expense of the front home button. I don't feel like that's a great trade-off.

If Apple wants to reduce bezels.... they should start with the sides. That will help immensely with hand-holding and grip.

But top to bottom? I've never had a problem with the top and bottom bezels.

Every iPhone since at least the iPhone 4 has included a sim eject tool as a global standard assuming the model is unlocked. All your iPhones are carrier locked I’m assuming?

Yeah you're right. My unlocked 7 has one but the carrier locked 6 and 6s do not.

iPhone air? The phone is supposed to be thicker than previous iPhones. Make a bigger phone and call it air? No way in hell.

You can’t colour match white pixels to white paint as the pixels are illuminated and will never be an exact match at any given time. Black pixels on the other hand, in oled are actually off and do not give off light, very easy to match with the border paint.

And vice versa, of locking the screen when you try to change the volume (or take a picture with on of the volume buttons).

I wonder if that elongated power button is going to be TouchID capable, eliminating the need to do through-the-screen sensing or the even worse middle of back button like on many of the Android phones? It certainly would make sense if they could package it in a much narrower and taller format.
Do you know of any fingerprint sensor that can work reliably with sampling only such a narrow strip of a fingertip? I don't.

The more we know, the more we don't know. I would much rather see the earphone and camera cutouts punched though a continuous screen. The notch design is really annoying.

Agree. The way to gain screen real estate is to slim the side bezels, reduce (but not eliminate) top and bottom and provide a normal screen with no weird cutouts. And we get a reliable area around the screen for TouchID.

No, here in the U.S. they always give them with the unlocked version (which is normally released a month or two - or more if demand is overwhelming - after initial release). Its a reason I normally always wait for that version.

No they didn't.

They will never call it iPhone Pro,it's just silly and makes no sense for a phone to be called Pro.
iPad and Macbook are different product lines and Pro user base exist fot those products vs normal user.

What's your solution?

If you offset the buttons you'll be happy, but people with a different grip to you (like myself) could then have issues. When I lock the screen one handed with my thumb my index fingers rest below the volume buttons.

I like it the way it is.
