Just no. Not only you have the guts to insult people that are open to other choices, you deem yourself smarter when you have no understanding why Android can be better for other people.

Everything you just said is your opinion, EXTREMELY far from fact.

I have many non Apple products, including phones, computers, screens, disks, etc. Let's just stick with phones for now; I have a Blackberry for work with one client & a Samsung S3 with another client, I previously had a couple of other Android phones. I have to admit that of the two current phones I prefer the Samsung, however it is massively frustrating compared to my iPhone. I said nothing in my post of being smarter than anyone, nor do I consider myself smarter, in fact, I know I am not a smart as many others.

I was merely pointing out the massive oversimplification of the concept of quality. Quality is something that is fundamental, the old concept of make it look nice (aka polish) is dead. Android is a bit like the old curates egg, good in parts and in some areas even better than iOS. The trouble comes when you put the whole package together. You might have a great bit of engineering, you might even put a layer over the top of Android to iron out some of its frustrating anomalies, however, your can never protect the end user completely from those frustrations and so, no matter how good the physical, engineered phone is, the overall product is flawed. Just as the iPhone is flawed, but to a lesser extent. The whole Apple ecosystem - the most important of which is support beats the other phones into a cocked hat. Twice I've had a problem with my phone, once stole, once broken - both times I came out of an Apple store with a brand new phone fully set up just as it was earlier in the day. Quality is about everything and Apple gets closer to perfect marks than any other phone brand (but both still have a way to go, so there's hope for all the other phone fans yet).

I cannot explain the iPad mini. It is a sub-par user experience that doesn't need to exist. I have the same concern about it as i do the cheap iphone. Apple should have reduced the size of the bezel on the full size iPad and continued to promote it as the only viable tablet option.

How is the iPad Mini a subpar? I never like the OG iPad due to its size and weight. The iPad Mini fixed that for me. Much better experience for me even with lower PPI

often offensive : one afflicted with cretinism
2: a stupid, vulgar, or insensitive person : clod, lout
— cre·tin·ous \-tən-əs\ adjective

By calling others who prefer the Android experience over iOS cretins is the same as saying you are smarter than them.

I'm happy that you are happy with the experience you're having with Apple but it is not up to you to define quality on others. Certainely not for people that cannot have the same experience as you for various reasons (Like no Apple Store nearby)

Reminds me of a scene from Seinfeld:

ELAINE: (Showing fingernails) Toxic waste green.
JERRY: That is disgusting.
ELAINE: You know, revulsion has now become a valid form of attraction.
JERRY: Well, then you're drivin' me wild.

Aluminium has greater plasticity than the plastics used in most phones, but worse elasticity. It deforms without cracking, but simply does not bend back. The plastic phones on the other hand can be dropped and where the aluminum would deform, they deform and reform. The aluminum is much less likely to fracture than the plastic, but is much more likely to deform, which in most cases is fine, it leaves a blemish, but that plasticity protects the phone from shock. So the lesson is, plastic cracks first, but is preferred for most situations as both materials are more than adequate for the occasional accidental drop.
Also if drop tests are one of the biggest reason you buy a phone, maybe you just shouldn't buy expensive fragile things?

EDIT: I love that color, it matches my headphones.

I still don't "get" the clamouring for Apple to make a "low cost" iPhone.

Here in the UK, the iPhone 4 is free on most networks for as low as £21 per month. How much cheaper than FREE do people want? Of course, people will argue that they're wanting a higher spec iPhone, cheaper on Sim Free.

I think the idea of plastic backed, multi coloured iPhone's is quite tacky personally. The 3G/3GS were fine because that's what iPhone was back then, plastic backed. Now thought, with the 4/4S and now the 5 we're seeing the use of premium materials like glass and aluminium which of course will be reflected in the price.

I have no issue, personally, with the low cost iPhone simply being the one which has been replaced and has been moved down a slot in the "rankings".

Agreed. I just think it goes against everything that Apple stand for, everything they hate about Samsung and similar products. Cheap, tacky phones made of plastic. I think these 'cheap iPhones' are hopeful rumours.

The colour iPhone is not intended to be a "cheap" iPhone, it's intended to replace the iPhone 4 which as you say can be bought cheap on contract. It cannot however be bought cheaper on pre-paid pay-as-you-go which is why they need to reduce the manufacturing costs and reduce the price. The iPhone 4 costs £319 unsubsidized - for a 3 year old phone.

I think this is more about a change of strategy than anything else. By moving away from simply selling last years model a bit cheaper to bringing out a whole new model they get to better differentiate the high-end iPhone from the cheaper iPhone.

It's the same policy they use on other products - for example the MBP versus the MBA.

As for cheap and tacky plastic? Well I don't think the millions buying Samsung phones would agree with you on that. I doubt they even care. That's who this phone is targeted at. If you don't like it then you always have the option to buy the aluminium iPhone 5 instead. Choice is good thing IMHO.

Glad to see the rumors materializing. A friend of mine who works for a company that manufactures certain parts for the iPhone told me last year that they had developed a new high strength plastic that had been approved by Apple for future devices. Fingers crossed that I can finally get an iphone that's durable enough to not use a case lol

missed opportunity

if apple just repackages/strips down the 5 to sell as their 'cheap' phone they are missing out on a nice opportunity
they could provide added value in a lesser priced package by offering the plastic phone with a larger screen - 4.7 - and simplifying things internally to make it thinner too
make the screen non-retina and just allow for the resolution to scale to the larger size
the next jump would be to offer the iphone 6 'pro' with ios 8 at the larger screen size and slimmer profile but with the retina screen
let the 'cheap' iphone take the screen size leap and see what happens!

This was not directed to you, and I'm really sorry.

I'm having a bad day and I didn't feel like being bombarded by replies by people who seem to have prepared their pro-plastic talking-points a while ago. I got angry, and I'm not usually like that.

Edit : Now I feel really bad, and I'm thinking of deleting my account. :(

Relax, we all have bad days.. Don't beat yourself up too much, I'd miss you if you were gone

So do we think this will be off contract only? $99 phone? (replacing the 4S or I assume 5 come 5S).

Or will it be the free phone on a contract as well as $400 off contract?

It's not a low cost phone, but a waterproof version of the 5S, I'll tell you why...

So I'm going to call it. The “low cost” iPhone that the pundits say Apple’s gonna release are wrong.

Apple doesn't release low cost “cheap” anything - it’s not their style. The “low cost” plastic/rubber phone is actually going to be a waterproof version of the iPhone 5S. It makes sense considering their competitor - Samsung released the Galaxy 4S waterproof edition and that is another feature that many people want in a top of the line *expensive* phone.

What do you think?

There's no doubt in my mind that this is an iPod Touch.
The word "iPhone" isn't even aligned properly.

I would be amazed if Apple were to cannibalise their premium brand with a low cost phone.

As long as it looks like iPod Touch 5th gen (which it does) I'd buy it in an instant.

The iPod is surprisingly has this fresh and attractive design which makes the iPhone 5 design a bit shabby :p

Yay for rounded edges, this might convince me to back to iPhones if it carries the same specs as the iPhone 5.

It will probably be a very watered down phone, in terms of specs. Which sucks, because I think it will look great.

Just remember that if/when Apple release a lower-cost iPhone, they're going to do something to make you prefer the premium version. If not lower processor speeds or useful functions that inexplicably don't work on the cheaper models, it'll be horrible colors no-one over 18 would be caught dead holding. If it looks half-decent, everyone will just flock to the cheaper one.
