I've had pretty good luck at some of the local small AT&T stores. Get there a few hours before opening and you might get lucky.

People underestimate these iPhone launches, you need to go at least 12-24 hours earlier, there will be people believe me, but why would you not pre order? last time I stood in line it was for the iPhone 4 and I had to wait 13 hours in line to get mine, just pre order and have it delivered its the easier route imo...

I need to grab the phone on launch day, I wasted a vacation day for it so I would be highly disappointed lol.

Device inventory at launch is different from the devices from pre order pick ups, right?

I couldn't pre order because I'm trading in my iPhone 5 so I need to go in personally on the day so they can appraise it. If I pre ordered, I needed to send my phone first, then they send me a gift card, would take like 3-4 weeks for that whole process. No thanks. Anything to get a couple hundred bucks off the phone. I was going to sell my old 5 on Craigslist anyways for 200 bucks so it works out for me.

Anything is possible. Last year I walked into Best Buy on launch day and picked up a 16GB Space Grey 5S. But you have to take into account that everyone wanted gold at that time.

From my experiences, in-store inventory on launch day is DIFFERENT from pre-order inventory. Apple will send a designated number of devices to Apple stores, carriers, BB, Walmart, etc... And they will SEPARATELY fulfill the pre-orders and send them to the respected stores. Think of it as one palette with phones that are up for grabs (store inventory) and then another palette with individually labeled phones (pre-ordered inventory).

Why are you trading your iPhone 5? you can sell it on craigslist and get at least $100-$200 more.

That's exactly why I'm trading my 5, I'm getting 200 bucks for it and why would I waste my time posting, getting low balled and probably get less then 200 on CL when I'm automatically getting a 200 credit with the trade in, Verizon basically did the work for me. Win, win scenario.

I sold my iPhone 5 64 gb for $580 on craigslist last year, why would you settle for $200 lol you can easily get $300 you just have to post it with the right description and some good pictures, and just be patient, I sold my iPhone last year within 48 hours of posting it, no shipping no fees just meet up with the person and your done, that's just my opinion..

I walked up to Roosevelt Field mall (Long Island, NY) Apple store on 5S launch day at 9AM. Walked out around 11AM with a 16GB 5s Space Gray. I later decided I rather have 32GB Silver so i returned it 5 days later at Grand Central Apple store. Showing up early ~7AM and waiting in line till 10AM got me the 32GB silver.

TL:DR You can get one on the 19th. The earlier you show up the better chance you have of getting the Color/Size you want. And they literally get shipments every day. Pick a day and get there early!

It's possible, especially if you go to a larger Apple store, but be prepared to wait... A long time. Should be easy to get the low capacity models for AT&T. No doubt, those are the volume models.

I messed up on my Pre order for the iPhone 4 a few years back. Ended up waiting like 12 hours. Never again.

It wouldn't hurt to try. When the 5 came out I walked into my Verizon store after work in the afternoon of launch day and walked out less than 30 minutes later with mine.

I have been going back and forth all day trying to decide whether or not to pre-order ( never MIND the decision over whether to go with the 6 or the 6 Plus... ) but I really do want to at least see the phone in person and have some hands-on before making up my mind so, for me, I think it's best to just wait it out, visit the Apple Store and go from there...

Obviously too late now for this suggestion, but my thought was to preorder the phone and if I don't like it, turn it in for the other. If I don't like the other? Sell it for beau-coup bucks and keep my 5. Come 9/19, no fighting with the crowds, no worry about if they'll have the phone/config in stock.

In my experience, you would want to go as early as you can afford- the 17th or 18th even. This is the most popular iPhone release by far, and there will be longer lines than you're expecting.
Geez every iPhone is the best by far.. Lol

I don't have to be there day before, do I? I'm not that much of a hype. They're opening stores at 8 so I'm going to try to be there by 6 or sooner. I took off a vacation day at work to get this phone so I can't be disappointed lol.

Don't even bother. You'll easily be 50 plus back and each store will probably get between 5-20 pluses I'm guessing. Just a waste of time for you to show up.

There are people who really want this phone and will be there on the 18 and maybe even earlier depending on the store.

I'm going to Verizon, not Apple. And security isn't letting people in the premises during the night. I'm going to be driving by periodically to check the status.

I would go to your carrier store. Last year the lines at carrier stores were much shorter than at the Apple store.

The line of the Apple store went all the way through the mall down the food court outside the doors then stretched down and around. It was absurd. I live in Lexington, Ky and only have one Apple Store.

My Carrier store was not bad at all

I think you all waiting in line with hundreds of people must live in big cities.

I can't imagine there will be more than 10 people in line at 8am on launch day at my local Verizon store.

I bought a 5s last year at Best Buy and there were 10 people in line at 10am when they opened.

Im going to go to my Apple store before it opens that Friday. Luckily it is within a mall, which closes, so there will be no campers outside the store itself :p

Golden rule to Apple iPhone launches:
-Carriers get less stock, Apple gets more stock. Less people go to carriers, more people go to Apple.

If you're truly not set on one specific model/size/color, and just want to upgrade, go to Apple.
