If it is true, I applaud moving the headphone jack to the bottom. Much more ergonomical than the top, especially when holding the phone, having it in a coat pocket, or placing it in a car cradle and connecting an aux line, etc. My only issue is, why move the jack to the bottom right (when viewed from the front). That's the mic's current location. Makes no sense to me. Common sense would be to move the speaker to the top (where the jack currently is), the jack to the bottom (where the speaker currently is), and leave the mic alone. Besides, I don't know if this is the case with other people, but when I hold my iPhone (predominately in my right hand) I tend to support the bottom with my pinky finger, and my pinky comes to rest in the exact location of the speaker, often muting it. Bad design of the 3G, if you ask me.
