The fact that it's running 2.0 (not even 2.1--see the 3G icon) proves it is fake, absolutely beyond a doubt. Why? Because if this is the new phone it is going to be shipping with 3.0 out of the box. There will be no way to put 2.0 on it (why would you anyway?). You can't put 1.0 on the 3G.

Why is it that people make such bad fakes? If you're gonna go through the trouble at least make it semi-believable. I would probably be on the side of these being real IF they had only used an iPhone running 3.0 instead of 2.0.

Not totally true. Apple's PR images still have the old 3G logo.

http://www.apple.com/pr/products/iphone/iphone.html

I assume that is where the graphic designer would get the screenshot. Maybe this graphic designer doesn't have access to 3.0, or didn't even think about how it looks different.

You never know.

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised with a device running 2.0, as it's probably somewhat compatible, especially the prototypes (it probably now has IMG3 encryption built in, which is still compatible with 2.x), but I just don't think they'd put that old of a version (before 2.1, I believe) on it. Doesn't make sense. Having 2.x on it at all is a big stretch.

Bottom line: FAKE

MAYBE it isn't going to launch with 3.0. Remember when 2.0 was coming out? You could still buy phones and touches with 1.X for a little while.

Besides, it would have needed to manufactured before 3.0 was final.

They wouldn't rework the 2.0 software to work with new hardware, that is insanity. 3.0 is baked and will probably launch into GM during WWDC. All new phones will have 3.0. This is fake.

I really hope that is not the next iPhone. I may have to just upgrade the software and keep my current 3G. Just having the head phone jack on the bottom of the phone would be enough for me to keep my current phone. That would be ridiculous to put that on the bottom of the phone.

Wow, this made it to the front page?

-"SMS" icon is wrong (it's now "Messages")
-No Voice Memos app (it's on the front page in the latest beta, under YouTube...though this could of course change)
-Old boxed 3G icon (dead giveaway...why don't these fakers ever use the latest version of the OS)
-No Spotlight
-Headphone jack on the bottom? It's on the top because of the speaker and mic at the bottom! Where is the mic gonna go if this is the case?

your first 4 points are actually one (that it is 2.0 as opposed to 3.0). your last concern, well look at the current ipod touch gen. lol

You guys realize that this is a graphic on a computer, right?

It's not an actual phone that is running any software. The <2.1 screenshot doesn't prove that it is fake, it just proves that the graphic artist who made the image put Apple's current PR screenshot of iPhone 3G on the image.

Just downloaded one. Those PR images were last modified June 9, 2008 (right after WWDC). Look at any of their promotional images on the website (apple.com/iphone)...all of them are running the updated software.

The only leaker of this would be someone from Apple. A graphic designer working for Apple designing the promotional images for the new iPhone would obviously have access to 3.0.

I call fake...

Maybe the thing at the top is the loudspeaker. That would make sense and reduce the amount of hand blockage/muffling of the speaker on the bottom. Plus, docks would no longer have to route the sound out.

I call fake. It's the wrong OS. Plain and simple... Apple would not be marketing the new iPhone without the single most significant update to the OS since day 1.

However, The General makes a great point about the second opening being the loud speaker. The speaker has been sub-par on both versions of the iPhone and now they might finally have it right if that is indeed what it is. Also I think moving the headphone jack to the bottom is a much better idea. I find that my iPhone gets a lot of lint in the head phone jack when its top down in my pocket. ( I have no idea how the lint is always there? :D) That being said if I put it in my pocket bottom down, the lint gets into the little holes for the speaker and mic, so its a loose loose.

But what ever the one looks like, I can't wait to meet the new one and upgrade! I will miss my 2G though... It just feels so damn good in your hand!

I hope the headphone jack is not on the bottom. It feels weird and wrong.

Same... no good.

I'm not saying this is real (in fact I highly doubt it), but remember the last mac mini update? Spy shots people *swore* were fake because the ports didn't line up and because the pic of the box showed a mini with 9 vents instead of 10. Seemed like pretty compelling arguments for the pics being fake... except they were real.

So long story short, apple could have a 3rd gen iphone running 2.0. I don't know why they would, but they could.

fake***

These images are obviously fake. The voice memo app is not on the front screen, with 3.0 is on the first page.

And the power button has been moved to the left side. I guess (if this is real) Apple is trying to make the iPhone more like the iPod touch in a sense. (moving the power button to the left side and moving the headphone jack to the bottom)

Yep. The lower hole is the ear speaker, and I'm guessing the one above is for the front facing video camera.

[edit: I'm talking about the slots on the top of the front face. I think you were talking about something else.]

I hope you are right but I can't see that you can fit camera in that sort of hole there:confused:

It wouldn't really matter to me if the headphone jack was at the top or bottom, However if there were to be iChat (front facing video), you would want the cord at the bottom so it wouldn't come over the screen or front facing camera blocking the view. Hope we get it!

Not sure if it has been mentioned or not, but in these images, where is the button on top of the phone?

In the one image, it looks like the button is moved to the left instead of the right.

Guys, listen up, it's clearly FAKE!!!!!!! You know why? You know why? Because the Voice Memos.app is missing!!!!!!!

The button is on the left. When you flip your phone over and look at the back, the button will appear to be on the right.

Elementary, my dear Watson. ;)

Was there always a white iPhone?

ROFLMAO

post of the year!

Think Different.

I'm going to say these are 100% real, just because I love it when everyone says they are fakes and they turn out to be true pictures of the devise.

To me ... this image is a lot more compelling than the others ... though the "Available today" makes me doubt it. I'd be very surprised to see it available the day it is announced (June 8). This could be an old screen image I've just never seen before from iTMS or Apple.com, or a modified old image.

Maybe Steve will walk out with one and shock everyone. :D

Someone's taken a picture of a real iPhone V3 that was turned off, and because whoever it was (not Apple, but maybe a phone company) wanted to show it 'running' they photoshopped on a picture of iPhone OS they found - in this case an old one.

A real fake would not have got the OS version so totally wrong and out of date.

So discount the display - what about the casing?
