You can turn off dictation as well. Other than that, while dictation is active (or perhaps turn on Siri and then get it to come up) lower the volume then.

I use dictation quite often. My volume is on the lowest setting but it still blasts out. The fact the phone is on silent should silence that button as all other sounds are silenced.

I agree that it should work that way or would be better if it did, but it was always separate from that and attached to Siri. There are a few different and separate volume levels--the one for ringer/notifications, the one for actual app/video/music/etc. content, and the one for Siri/dictation. So, even when the phone is on silent the apps/videos/music/etc. can still have a sound as there's a separate volume control for them, and same goes for Siri/dictation.

The way to change it is to change the volume (using the hardware volume buttons on the side of the phone) when one of those things is being used--so for app/video/music/etc. volume you can change it while one of those things is in use, and for Siri/dictation you can separately change it when one of those is in use.

Recreated on iPad Mini2, running 8.1 over wifi, and that is one hellaciously ugly bug. Speed didn't just cut in half, it went from over 50 Mbps to FIVE. About a minute later, it was back above 50. Yeesh.

Swiping up Control Center in iOS 8 causes the device to search for nearby Airplay devices over BlueTooth. For example on my iPhone 5S, it goes and finds my Apple TV and wakes it up, which causes it to show up in the Control Center.

BlueTooth can interfere with WiFi (2.4 Ghz), so that might be what's happening.

In iOS 8.1 I still have the Safari Keyboard freezes and rotation issues on my iPhone 6

I still have rotation issues on my iPad. Also still have the problem with my Swiftkey keyboard seemingly randomly swapping back to iOS (although that might be the fault of Swiftkey, I just don't know).

Somewhat frustrating because these were two of the issues in 8.1 that were supposed to be addressed.

There seems to be a problem with Control Center on IOS8+ doing 'something' that interrupts WiFi for about 35 to 40 seconds at a time. The problem is most noticeable on iPhone 5/5S and iPad/iPad Mini, but still happens on the new iPhone 6/6 Plus devices.

....

This is an absolute killer for low-latency audio applications such as VOIP.

Has anyone out there seen this? Can you re-create like we can?

Excellent catch, Morac! Bug is not repeatable on my device with Bluetooth off. Very interesting to know. (Also tested on an iPhone 5 under 7.1.2...and it's not present in that firmware.)

I still have the issue in landscape mode where I cannot backspace to delete text. The cursor just moves over the text and it remains. This is with the current update on an iPhone 6. Happens in e-mail, notes, text, and Safari so far.

I've been having this issue as well as pressing letters when trying to type and they don't work. But its seems like it's only happening when my iPhone 6 is in landscape mode.

I've reported it, twice. Under 8.0 and 8.1. Not sure why it cannot be fixed.

Feature or bug? Need to passcode unlock twice

Hi,

Whenever I have my phone passcode-locked and a mail comes in, and I don't want to read but archive it, IOS asks for my passcode (which is odd since it's supposed to be a quick action). But after I entered the passcode, and I want to unlock the phone, I have to enter the passcode again. This is fine if the setting for "Passcode > Require Passcode" is "immediately", but if I set passcode lock to not immediate, say, "after 1 minute", this requirement to unlock twice is odd and a bother.

I think to have to passcode-unlock twice is a bug, don't you think?

Is the button suppose to be like this for AirDrop? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414101452.481335.jpg

iPad 4 here.

I downgraded from 8.0 last month during the window. Safari was trash, I couldn't deal with the lag and the crashes. I knew all this come yesterday.

But the freaking pangu jailbreak seduced me.

8.1 safari for iPad needs serious attention. Please Apple.

The battery percentage meter is still screwed up. Watch when charging or discharging. The jumps I've noticed are 14% to 16%, 29% to 31% and 59% to 61%. It skips everytime whether you are charging or discharging. Check it out.

8.1 didn't address the issues I've seen in Safari -- the AirDrop sheet with the third row buttons drawn over the first row text, and the "this page was reloaded" errors.

And while the logged backboard errors are gone, the Jetsam errors are still numerous.

iOS 8.0 and 8.1 has turned my iPad mini into a slow piece of stone.

Is there really THAT much of a difference from iOS 7 to iOS 8 that it would cause this much lag? Safari is the biggest waste of time - from general speed to the fact that I still cannot copy/paste text or web addresses. Watching any embedded video is a no-go.

It's just sloppy. The entire interface is uncharacteristically slow. I've been avoiding any use of my iPad since upgrading. Usually with any bugs, I'd give Apple a pass as the issues would be fixed, but this is far from excusable.

Good job!

I have an iPhone 5 and a 5S that I upgraded to 8.02. The iPhone 5 I use in Mexico with a Mexican (Telcel) phone number and the 5S I use in the US with ATT. Ever since the upgrade when my US phone rings, so does my Mexican phone--while in the US.
Numbers I call on my US phone also show up on my call log on my Mexican phone (iPhone 5)
Any solutions to this?

I have a suspicion this was caused by fiddling with the Accessibility/"Reduce Transparency" option earlier in the day. A reboot seems to have fixed the issue.

Running 8.0.2 on iPhone 6

If you start a video and use the volume buttons, it changes to ringer and mutes the video volume. You have to scrobble back to the beginning of the video to get sound back.
.

anyone find a fix for this? on 8.1 now on iphone 6 and have this issue

Problems I've been having lately:
-Touch screen unresponsiveness. Whatever I'm doing will freeze for about 30 seconds or more. The phone will then start doing things on its own like going back a page, scrolling up or down, or trying to change the address bar.
-Orientation lock. Sometimes when I'm trying to use my phone in landscape, it gets stuck on portrait mode without the orientation lock enabled.
-This happens a lot. Sometimes my music will just start playing out of nowhere. Which ever music app I used last (Music app, Pandora, SiriusXM, etc) will just start playing while I'm browsing Safari or social network apps.
-The Reminders app initially doesn't show Badges after setting Prority to !!! but displays the Badge when I change it to !! then back to !!!

iPhone 6+ iOS 8.1
Bugs I've noticed (though many have occurred on previous iOS 8 versions)

  • Control center won't open on lock screen until I unlock the phone (Happens frequently)
  • When I start typing in spotlight, sometimes the search on web/search on wikipedia won't show (Happens frequently)
  • Keyboard sometimes just won't show until I close all apps (could be SwiftKey, not Apple though) (Happened a few times)
  • A distorted image of a dark Apple keyboard once showed when I tried to type and would go back down when I pressed on it and reappear if I tried to type again. (Happened once)

I read a little on these bugs, here is mine!

IOS8.1--If my phone is locked and want to take a quick picture you genneraly just swipe up on the camera on bottom right--well mine will open the camera and then immediatly crashes and shuts off EVERY time?

Here's one for ya, has happened twice (1 on first OS8 and 1 on 8.0.2 - have not wanted to do 8.1 yet because of threads like this one!)

My phone does a "possessed" thing. All on its own.
I was checking email and it just started to do things as I observed in awe!
Launching apps, typing things, launched the calculator and did a computation! Then launched an email window typed in a recipient! At that point I didn't want it to send an email on its own so I pushed the sleep button, then powered off and on…solved it, for now. So weird.
I searched online for the issue. Couldn't find anything.

I can confirm this bug. I turned off transparency, then re-enabled it and I get this same exact bug. Reboot fixes it as well.
