This reminds me, I need to fix my iBook before it becomes more of a valuable machine and parts cost a first born child
@Project Alice
If you go to touch.facebook.com it will load the mobile version, which works really well and fast on both Tenfourfox and WebKit (in WebKit you can even watch fb videos without problems). BTW it is not true that WebKit has not had an update in a year, last update was just a few months ago.
I know, I said I use mobile FB on PPCs if I have to use it.
And about webkit, I went to their sourceforge and saw that it said it was updated. That must mean the built in updater doesn't work, because it's always identified itself as the latest version, and I have it on a couple macs that I've had for years.
These days they don't care as long as you pay for a "premium" service or buy their latest products, and the purposefully don't update their stuff for older platforms so you buy into the updatesis optimization no longer a part of the development process?
For such a bland looking service, Facebook (and Google Docs) are seriously heavy on the client-side resources.
Just load Facebook with a script blocker and see how many are running (well over a hundred) - turn scripts off and you get a blank page!
I wonder If that would make FB run better... Disabling a bunch of scripts and find out which ones will let you use the site.
Why has this thread become a facebook discussion?
I have a good solution to facebook... don't use it.
This thread is 3 years old and has veered off topic a couple times. I don't think 3 replies counts as "becoming a facebook discussion".
For the record the main reason I use that cesspool of a site is for the large Mac groups, and car groups.
I'd post another About window to get back on-topic, but I'm at work and this is being typed on a Dell running Windows 7. lol
Tossed a spare 80gb drive in the pmac-g5, so now it boots 10.4, 10.5 and...
Cheers
Does anybody know how I can modify the false version number that is shown on "About This Mac". Clearly it should state 10.5.8 and not 10.12.4. I suspect this is due to the theme but is there an easy fix to show the correct version number?
HDD installation on a 12 inch PowerBook? brave man!
a 12 inch PowerBook is one of those I still need to add to my collection, (but I have not really been looking recently due to life stuff)
I realize it's super old, but I see videos of people running YouTube on this in modern times.
Welcome to a very fun rabbit hole of a forum.Power Mac G5 that I think I got for $50 on Craigslist. Any tips for optimizing performance on one of these? I realize it's super old, but I see videos of people running YouTube on this in modern times.

I was the only bidder on that item. The lack of a HDD scared everyone else off. It went for £ rather than ££ or even £££ and I am OK with that. It’s not that bad truth be told but for the $$ they’re fetching I would rather buy something else.
