Having called three reps, there's nothing else I can do. The delivery estimate on their page is and has always been Oct 27-Nov 5, so unless I don't have it by Nov 5, they'll just keep telling me that I have nothing to complain about, in particular not "rumors" of other people getting theirs earlier. The problem is, they simply don't care. Even if I gave them 10 order numbers that were placed after mine but have arrived, I bet they still wouldn't care. I think the company is just doing too well at this point, so they can afford not caring.

1. To contact customer service and ask them to check if they have 2.8's in a store near you and then install the larger hdd yourself (I did this before and they told me 1 store did). If you phone the store directly they'll tell you that they don't have any, but that's usually because the person answering can't manage to understand that you're asking about the physical stock and not online ordering.

2. Contact cust. service at sjobs@apple.com
This is probably your best bet.

3. Write in to consumerist.com

Hope it is in the air now.. or has arrived in Anchorage and just hasn't been scanned yet.

Any inkling as to when this guy might move to the next step? My projected ship date is this Friday. I just got the base 2.4 GHz model with a Display Port to DVI adapter and an Apple Remote. Everything else was the same. I bought my own 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD and 4 GB DDR3 pair to put in. Despite the price being close to just customizing it that way, I could just resell the chips the Mac comes with, perhaps.

Regardless, my MBP's been sitting in the same spot for a day. I'm starting to get antsy... any ideas?

Darn! They missed that flight! It's already landed but the tracking status hasn't changed at all.. Sigh...

I hope they catch the 11:00am flight.. :eek:

I'm sorry if I sounded narcissistic. Most people email sjobs for customer service issues...or so I've heard. I'm advising him to do this too because I honestly think that there must be something wrong with the processing of his/her order.

If you've been following the thread then you'll see that he ordered on the 17th, and while people who've placed orders 5-7 days after his for the same or similar conguration have been shipped or even delivered, his is still not ready.

I totally understand and I am sorry if I sounded like a jerk. I just can't imagine the shape Jobs' inbox is in, and I suspect his personal addy has changed by now anyway.. now get me my damn laptop. ;)

Mine came today. I ordered Oct 17 with some billing issues, and the unit was officially shipped on the 23rd, although it didn't fly out from China until the 24th because of weather. After it arrived in Anchorage, it took two more days to get into my hands.

I've been using it for a few hours after initializing from my Time Machine backup, and I haven't run into any issues. No dead pixels, no problems with the case. It feels very solid. I feel a lot better holding it in my hands or on my lap. Great speakers, too -- very loud, and the construction is a lot tighter (smaller holes than previous gen). Tested the express slot and all ports except the mini-DVI port without any issues.

The glossy screen is also very sleek; I was worried the reflection would be a problem, but I haven't run into any problems at all, both at work and in a home setting, and both on a desk and on my lap. I do notice reflections if I'm looking for them, but for the most part the screen is bright enough that my eye never catches them. I notice them most if I move my head to the extreme left and right, and only while I'm moving my head.

I'd also heard a lot of complaints about the keyboard. I think this is personal preference. The keyboard takes a moment to get used to, and the spacebar is a bit louder than my previous MBP, but it didn't take me long to pick it up.

The glass trackpad is equally as sleek as the screen. It feels very smooth to the touch, and it was very easy to pick up. I didn't even notice the buttonless-ness. I have run into a couple small issues where the trackpad thought I'd made a right click on a normal click. I found that I could trick the trackpad into doing a right click by moving my pointer finger slightly and then clicking with my thumb. It's very rare, though. Also cool multi-touch, but limited use. I'm still trying to get used to four finger swiping, but we'll see if it becomes more natural than swishing my mouse into the corner of the screen.

Overall, awesome experience. Hope yours comes quickly!

How long does it usually take for Apple to update the carrier details? The website says up to 24h, but I've waited around 36 now.

The Courier's site should update the status as soon as they receive the product from Apple. Be patient ya! :)
 
My shipping info was updated over night! It has finally left China and is in transit with an expected delivery of 10:30am tomorrow morning. Much more information was added to the tracking website as well, like the actual weight, the necessity for a signature on the package was listed, etc. I'm hoping this is accurate because I've been sitting in pins and needles watching this shipment stay at a standstill for over 24 hours.

Mine did just update at 3PM Shanghai time to say "In Transit". Looks like it did just sit for almost a full day. I bet it is going to get on the flight FDX90 leaving at 9:18pm heading to Anchorage.
 
Ahhh!!! It finally reached the Warehouse!! :D They've promised me to deliver as early as possible tomorrow morning...!! I can't sleep tonight man!! :D

Congrats Wendy! I was really hoping to get mine by Friday, but the FEDEX tracker says "Delivers by 11/3/08 by 10:30AM". I sure wish it hadn't sat an entire day yesterday because it missed that flight. Guess we'll see what happens now.

You must live further away, because mine changed at 3:00 PM also and it's still supposedly showing up tomorrow at 10:30AM. Do you think that's impossible at this point, seeing how I have no updates aside from the 3:00 PM notice? Haha.
