what program lets you set the date, time, etc on the desktop? i like that.

It's called geektool. Search for it in the App Store, you can find plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to use it.

You can add empty spaces in your dock by entering a code in Terminal, or you can just download the free application 'Superdocker'. It will let you add these spaces as well without having to enter any commands and it has a few other features as well

On my desktop they do not, but, I guess nothing is impossible, might even be doable with geektool. Great idea though.

The dock is a feature that comes with 'Superdocker: you just open the app and click on the '2D Dock' option.

I didn't modify the transparency, I just used the 2D option in Superdocker (;
