The reason I doubt it's simply sales is the fact that supplies to the stores have been so constrained. This has never happened before. I also don't believe the story about this is an attempt to drive sales online because units are slowly trickling into the stores. It's got to a constrained component driving all this. Everything else is just behavior that happens in trying to deal with this.

I think it is Apple's new way of selling products. I think they want to have people order online.

All the rumors are saying by the end of May, Apple stores will have the rMB in stock. IF they were really pushing for online sales they would not be doing this.

Just placed the order for a Space Gray, 1.3ghz 256gb model.

Delivers: Jun 16 - Jun 29

Looking forward to it and going to try and avoid this forum as much as possible until then, :p

My order status changed to "Shipping" today, May 16.

I ordered the 1.3/512/SG rMB on April 15. It will be delivered to an Apple store in Minneapolis-St. Paul, USA, on Thursday, May 21. That's just under five weeks from order to delivery, assuming it arrives on the target date.

It's been a long wait!

I ordered the exact same computer that you did

I ordered it the same day that you did.

I also live in the Minnespolis / St. Paul area.

Mine is due in the same day yours is.

What coincidences! (Although the same arrival date isn't a surprise I guess)

Amazing!

Perhaps I'll run into you on the 21st. Now THAT would be a coincidence.

I'll look around for someone who appears to have good taste (Space Gray) and the means, credulity and foresight to pop for the upgrades (1.3/512).

Alas, there is the difference. I'm having mine shipped directly to my house so I won't run into you as you are picking up you're at the Apple Store.

There has got to be either a component delivery problem or something in the assembly of the MacBook. Apple is a master of both logistics and design so I'm guessing it must be a component problem. I'd be tempted to think it's the taptic device, but there doesn't seem to be any problem with the 13" rMBP and it has the new trackpad also.

There has got to be some constrained supply component in there causing all this.

I've never ordered a MacBook at launch / around launch time - just iPhones and maybe one of my iPads so have no idea how common it is for lots of people to be ordering. Could it just be the new design is so exciting that lots of people ordering....more than expected? I did read about problems keeping up with hen watch orders and increase if resources in that direction. They need to do the same here.

My CC has been 'pending' since May 12 and Apple still shows 'Processing Items'.

CC dropped pending charge on May 14 so now waiting for charge to be replaced. Apple still shows 'Processing Items' and dates are still May 19 - June 2. At this point it definitely won't be here May 19!

As mentioned above, for some buyers the charge remained pending for a week before any kind of change to the order status. Mine is also still pending and the order is processing. Hopefully it won't be too much longer- one guy earlier said he ordered on the 16th and got a delivery notice this morning, so I hope my purchase on the 17th will yield a shipping notice tomorrow. When did you order yours?

1.3/256/S/US just an update:

Shipped and estimated on the 20th though it is already at local facility. Has anyone had any luck with having it held at FedEx location? Would that be quicker than waiting for it to continue to the residence?

BTW shipping estimate for my purchase on April 17th is May 22 - Jun 5 so it should arrive 2-4 days earlier than the beginning of the window, for your reference.

Ah, well. I'll high-five you in spirit when I pick mine up. Or do they do fist-bumps now? I'll do both.

I may be older than you. A high five would be more typically my style. Either way, we both think alike. I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

(If I were to have ordered it to be picked up in store I would have chosen Rosedale).

My order was placed on 16/4, and shipping window is on 20/5-2/6.

And finally, they charged my credit card in this morning (HK), but the amount is just the applecare. But the order status is still "processing".

So would my order change the status soon??

Older than me? Probably not. To tell the truth, I've always felt a bit awkward high-fiving. And if somebody tried to fist-bump me, I'd likely screw it up.

I'll pick up my rMB at the MOA store, as I work nearby. I'll just wave northward toward you. I can wave pretty well. :)

Ordered 4/17 - 1.3/256GB in Space Grey. Delivery is 5/21 - June..CC was charged overnight. Awaiting status change from Processing. Looks like it is coming though! Finally!

My 1.3/512 Gold/JP keyboard (ordered 4/13, order altered slightly 4/26) just switched to preparing for shipment! Delivery is still listed as 6/3 to 6/16. This is great news.

On the other hand, my USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter listed for 5/14-5/28 delivery is still processing....

What did you change?

I wanted to change color (from gold to space gray) so I cancelled my gold and ordered space gray. I lost two weeks that way. I'd have had my computer probably a whole month ago as I ordered the gold right when orders began.

I switched from 1.2/512 to 1.3/512. I was also supposed to have lost two weeks, but I was partly guessing that there wouldn't be a big market for orders with Japanese keyboards in the US (i.e. I wouldn't be competing with anyone else's order, so the question would be more when they were going to start getting shipped at all than how many new people were in front of me). I thought I was going to lose that bet, but now things seem to be looking up again!

I'm so confused right now... My [wife's] gold 1.3/512 ordered 4/11 is in some kind of limbo. An authorization for the price of the system was placed on the credit card on 5/12, then nothing... On 5/14, a new authorization popped up, so there were two. The first authorization expired and disappeared 5/16. Yesterday, 5/17, the store status showed the system to be preparing for shipment.

Today, 5/18, the status was back to processing, but then showed preparing for shipment again about mid-day, only for it to have disappeared again this evening. The system now shows as processing in the order status again and the second authorization has expired on the credit card.

I order lots of systems from Apple for myself and employees. I have never seen a computer order go from processing to preparing for shipment and back again. Especially twice. Not sure what's up... This system was for my wife's birthday that just passed and now that she knows about it, she's asking me for status updates almost as often as i'm checking. Heh.

What type of work do you do? I'm an engineer. Could this be another thing in common?

(I don't regularly do high fives either)

I rescheduled mine to stay go to a Fed Ex location so I can pick mine up Thursday night. I don't want to have to take the day off from work to stay home for my computer. Picking it up at an Apple Store was a smart idea.

I'm a federal employee. Probably similar in some regards, in some peoples' eyes (no offense intended).

Yeah, I don't have stuff that must be signed for delivered to my house any more. I realized today that Thursday is the day we fly off for a long weekend to attend my nephew's high school graduation. I'm sure Apple planned the computer's delivery to coincide with my departure.

Just hope the store doesn't send it back or sell it to someone else before I can pick it up next Tuesday.
