320 MB, a G3, and Tiger that must be one slow computer.
Believe you me, running Tiger on my iBook G4 is horrific. I am so upset about it, because the other day (yippee!) I found the original discs. So I'm thinking to myself "I can finally do it! Completely redo it!" to find neither discs work. Yippee - cancelled.
My iBook only has 216Mb of ram... but it is a 1.16 Ghz model...

Tiger runs poorly on an iBook G4? Try upgrading its RAM a bit. 256 (I'm guessing you meant 256, I don't believe 216MB is possible to achieve in any iBook) is pretty much Tiger's bare minimum. It ran fine under my G4 (albeit a 1.33ghz mid-2005 model) on 512MB, and even better when on 768MB. Leopard even runs nicely on 768MB.

Unless, it's just an install-specific problem, and you've had no issues with it on other similar or weaker machines. Weird things happen.

Truly a piece of art. PPC Macs are ALWAYS worth something, especially when they can be an inexpensive kitchen music machine, and look that good doing it.

Exactly! The iMac is connected to an Airport Express (located beneath TV in living room) which streams the music to the audio system in the living room. Works like a charm!

My wife still uses my PowerBook G4 DVI .. its not the best but it still works. She'll get my year old MacBook in about a month so she'll see a nice difference.

Yes Bloodstar, it is 256mb. I know, I know, I could buy new RAM, but I don't really use that as my main computer. My white intel imac? I LOVE...... it so much. 250g drive 4gb of MASSIVE RAM... sorry, i know its not ppc, but....

My iBook G4 1.33 GHz 12-inch. It's running Leopard after I've upgraded it, it has a 5400 rpm Samsung disk now and 1 GB of RAM. :) I used to own a white 2007 MacBook, but to be honest, I think I like the iBook G4 more... I have an Intel iMac for serious business, so the speed difference (which is not bad at all) doesn't bother me at all.

During the upgrade, I accidentally ripped the socket for the power button off the logic board. I though it was over for my iBook, but luckily I could solder it back on. Haven't had a problem since. :D

Wall Street G3

Still running a Wall Street G3 that I've had at least 11 years (I've lost track!) and it was secondhand when I bought it.

Wow!your iBook is in tip-top condition. I have the same 12-inch iBook 1.33ghz with you that has been sleeping for quite sometime. 'twas my first and the oldest Apple/Mac unit I have. Just last month, I tried to revived it, but found out that the DC-In board is defective coz it will not charged or power up,thought it's the battery or the logic board problem.Anyhoo,I replaced the DC-In Board,($15) and the Airport/Bluetooth card($20) and upgraded it into OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.and voila!

Its original battery still runs max of 2hrs full charged!Need a 1GB RAM though to upgrade from 768 RAM to 1.5 RAM and and a larger hdd, maybe a 80GB or 120GB!

iBook G4

I have an iBook G4 (well, it's not THAT old) running at 1.07 gigahertz with 768 mb ram and an ATA Mobility Radeon 9200 32 mb chip inside.
Well, now that I think about it, it is turning 7 this year....

A working G3 iMac.

What happened to thread?

My iMac still works. I had just one problem involving partitions, easily fixed once found the solution.
After removing my unblemished Flower Power casing, surprised by the damaged inner plastic frame. Someone must have dropped it with the cover off without breaking the CRT.

I knew I already posted about the slot loader below:
See i *LOVE* the iMac G3 thread

Two G3 iMacs still going.

Mac 1 is a 1999 266 tray loader G3 iMac with 288mb RAM. It has the slowest cd drive ever, possibly damaged.
True story, the PO, my sister, loaded Panther onto it using EASY INSTALL!
That used 50% of the hard drive! - 1GB for O.S., 1 GB of languages, 1 GB of printer drivers.

Runs 10.3.9 no problem, SMX video converter, Adobe Reader, etc.

Garageband 2 allows audio processing without actually saving any files.
Audio in to G-Band 2, enable Stadium sound effects, and output to stereo system - instant audio effects.

Mac2
is a 2001 600 SE Flower Power G3 iMac with the max 1GB RAM.
It runs 10.4.11 no problem. It is fine for internet except for HD video streams, then not so great.
Overheating shutdowns led me to install a 2" fan powered by the hard drive molex. Now barely even warm.
Adding a second (duplicate) VGA monitor is possible via the port on the bottom - remove the cover with a penny.

Celebrated her 11th birthday last month...

My beloved pristine G4 Cube and its faithful partner in crime, the acrylic 20" ACD. Stock 450 MHz, modded only with the vital goodies - namely, GeForce FX video card, silent SSD and some Spirica heatsinks.

With LeopardAssist, it runs that OS almost as smooth as its younger sibling, an equally pristine - once I get replacement hinges - and capable 1.5GHz G4 PowerBook, which is a mere whippersnapper at only 8 years old.

Of course, I tote an MBA these days for most things work and play, but my love and regular domestic use of these gorgeous PPC machines remains undiminished by time. The un-boxing experience back then was something else too, the little extras, the packaging, the reveal etc. Alas no more given Apple's more recent perfunctory "a charger and be thankful" approach.

----------

My upgraded G4 Cube 1.2 GHz running Tiger, 12 years old and better then new.
Arggh, you beat me there by mere minutes...still, saved me the trouble of adding a photo aside from my larger ACD

p.s. technically your Cube can't be 12 yet, not until the summer anyway ;)

----------

Oops, almost forgot I've kindly provided a retirement home - he was going to dispose of it - for my brother's graphite iMac G3 SE DV - also must be at least ten or eleven years young, and in full working order running Tiger with Airport installed.

To my shame, I have to admit this one is currently "employed" as a bedside table

Hippy :p

Yeah I know it's rare to see one these days, but honestly, I think it's the one colorway that doesn't stand the test of time. Aside from the graphite, I personally really loved the 'sage' green shown in this clever ad...

My oldest PowerPC is a PowerBook 5300 (in my sig), which is the very first PowerBook based on PowerPC CPU, so you can not really go older than that. :D

It still runs great, I hacked a 2GB Compact Flash card in it to replace the HD, so it is silent, and has an Orinoco based pcmcia wifi card.

I have an iMac G3 (Snow) that works like a charm. Because of limited space (I have three computers side by side right now, all used at the same time) I have it unplugged under my desk so I can't take a pretty picture of it running right now.

This is my oldest Still working machine, I only upgrade macs once every 5-ish years and i kept this because i think it's one of the prettiest machines apple has ever made!

I have a Quadra 700 (circa 1991) with a DayStar Digital: PowerPro 601 (Power PC ) Upgrade Card running at 50 MHz.

Is that allowed or it is cheating? :D

My G4, Dual 450 MHz, and the last CRT studio display made, both are 11 years old, nearly as old as me (i have 4 years on it!)
