Wow... I spent like 15-20mns detailing in a post here my configuration/setup (cf signature below) together with a little bit of history and motivation, the post had to undergo moderation, but now I can't see it anymore, apparently been wiped out, dunno why... :/

Well, don't have the courage to do it again, so it's all in my signature, and that's that.
Ok so my post appeared after a while, so forget this one.
Just post a picture of it :)

We all live our retro tech lives vicariously through each other's pictures :D

Ah yes of course, hadn't browsed this thread before posting, obviously pictures are expected here, you're right.

Don't have pics of the setup per se yet (includes the PBG4, a Beelink mini-PC, 22" Viewsonic monitor, 2 mice and keyboards, ethernet connection between the Mac and PC, etc...), so for now just these two below :

Apparently not. 😅

I haven't used macOS for the last 17-18 years (been on Win mostly and a bit of Linux recently, in an attempt to get rid of M$oft lecturing me into what's best for me, modifying my setup and installing unneeded/suspicious stuff on my PC - all without any warning or even telling me), so it'll take some time before I catch up. ;)

Just for the anecdote : these pics were taken at the very first moments after I resurrected my PB (what a joy when things turned up alright !), and that includes dismantling it for the upgrade (in fact IIRC these pics and others were taken while the PB was only partly put back together, I wanted to make sure that everything was Ok including the newly installed SSD *before* I'd finish re-screwing the 37869 tiny screws this machine requires you to handle ^^).

Well, since you seem knowledgeable on OS X, maybe you'd be able to help me out on the kernel panic I'm getting when booting on Tiger ? (in the Tiger thread here)

Thanks @TheShortTimer, I'll have a look, am familiar with how to do all this in Windows so it's just a matter of adjustment.

@Tratkazir_the_1st, with over 1000 posts on MR I'm pretty sure your English must be good enough (btw not my native language either). And don't bother with the kernel panic I mentioned above, I've solved it.

You're welcome and thanks to you for updating the thread to share the solution. Info like that is always helpful to newcomers and seasoned veterans alike. :)

Sorry, English is not my native language :D. No offense :).

As someone who was born and raised in the home of the English language, let me assure you both that I often encounter people who speak English as a second language with a higher proficiency than us Brits... :D

About screenshots: shift + cmd + 4 + spacebar is the one I use most of the time. Open few windows and give it a try.

But anyways... oohh so much RAM!:D I just upgraded my iMac G5 from 1GB to 2GB and it only takes about 357MB of RAM after boot. So about 1.65GB free for programs and games!

EDIT: forgot the shift -key. ;)

New addition to my collection. I now have one of each of the "Apple subnotebooks".

PowerBook 2400c US-edition 180 MHz 603e with its floppy drive. (I already had the PowerCD, it just matched nicely for the photo.) It was sold as working, display looked good (most of the 2400cs on ePay are Japanese-keyboard, and *MANY* of them have bad displays.) It had been listed twice with too-high a price and got no bids, relisted slightly lower, I did a lowball offer. They accepted.

Arrived nonfunctional (the dreaded "GLOD".) The packaging was also rather lacking, one wrap of thin bubble wrap, stuffed in barely-big-enough box. I videos opening the box because I could feel it was insufficient packing from the outside, just in case it had shattered plastics in transit. Thankfully no physical damage.

They had shipped it with a different power brick than the listing showed, so I thought it was the power brick, messaged, got them to refund a little bit of money and send the correct power brick. While waiting for the power brick, I disassembled to see if the PRAM battery had blown up in transit. Nope, PRAM battery actually looks fine! But removed it for future safety. Reassembled, and it booted fine. I'm guessing the connections between internal boards had popped loose during shipping. The battery even holds ~1 hour of life! (It's running all off battery here.)

Function over form setup for my repurposed desk. Picked up a new Sit / Stand desk for my main systems, moved my old table to the other side of the room to host my PowerPC systems and whatever laptop I want to use on this side (Late 2008 Unibody in this case).

Need to work on cable management still, but love the extra space as this table is almost 2x as wide.

@840quadra Nice IC-7300. I recently picked up a Yaesu FT-710. Here's a pic of the "shack" side of my L shaped desk. The iMac is to the left not shown.

Side note: You should really be using Chromium Legacy, or Pale Moon, or SeaLion, or BrassMonkey, or Firefox Dynasty on El Cap. They are all more up to date with current web standards and security than AF is. AF is a great light weight simple surfer though.

Nice setup.

I had that same power supply until a lightning incident ended that and a Kenwood. Sadly it was a mainline issue, not something that hit any of my antennas.

Yeah I have a few other browsers, though I don't do anything Chromium on any device (even Android) and IIRC legacy is no longer supported with the last update having been early in the year. AF Does everything I need it to do, and I like the light footprint.

The first generation Apple TV is the slowest Intel Mac ever made with a single-core 1 GHz Pentium M and 256MB RAM! I have one with an SSD running 10.5.8 surprisingly well considering the terrible hardware, but it's essentially useless these days.
I always wondered if it could be made to run original Xbox games because in that context it’s pretty good. Plus built in component. It’d probably be pretty difficult. I don’t know what the TV’s gpu situation is but I thought it was Nvidia too although I know the Xbox has some custom stuff going on.

Love the shacks @wicknix & @840quadra. I am not a HAM but my Dad has been for as along as I have memory of him. I figure one of these days I'll get licensed and a call sign :D
Been a great hobby! got my license back in 2001, am a General now and often talk to stations outside the US with a simple dipole antenna inside my attic!

Newest thing I have been getting into is DMR which I am a huge fan of. If we had more HAMs on MR, I would look into getting our own talk group on Brandmeister ;) .

Hmmm, there's something around the irony of folks talking about Mac/Apple stuff using amateur radio that is hard for me to describe. It's like driving a Tesla forward down the road in reverse. I dunno, brains on strike today evidently LOL

Anyhow, I love the notion of it  and to not stray too off topic, here’s my QS.

IMG_1314.jpeg

and to drop right back into the deep end, I have been searching for an internet HAM front end app for PowerPC Macs, Tiger or Leopard ideally. It sounds like a fantastic use case fit for one of my PowerPC macs. Anyhow, haven't run into one yet but havent really looked too hard either.

@Certificate of Excellence If you get your hands on a secondhand Icom PCR-1000 and a serial to USB adaptor you can drive it via Virtual PC on your Mac.

I did this recently via Win 2000 on my Powerbook - alas, the radio was defective so I returned it to the seller.

Way back someone wrote a frontend for OSX but I was not successful in tracking a copy down.

A little more than a week ago I understood that I waste too much time on dophamine staff like youtube and news. So I moved to PowerMac G4 to finish an article I planned to do.
