Last week, MacRumors received confirmation of impending Dual PowerMac and Display updates in the near future. As stated in the previous report, no date, however, was provided.

Most eyes are fixed on an unconfirmed MacPlus.org report claiming a release on Tuesday, March 23rd.

Many readers have noted that Apple has a number of promotions (Educational, and Memory upgrades) that end on March 27th. This coincides with the end of Apple's 2nd Financial Quarter for 2004... leading some to speculate at March 30rd, should Apple continue in tradition with Tuesday releases. Coincidentally, IBM is holding an event on March 31st, providing a roadmap for the company's Power processor -- though it's unclear if this will specifically address the PowerPC processor itself.

Finally, Apple themselves will be holding a Event ("Moving Pictures. Moving Sound. Moving the Industry") on April 18th at the NAB conference.

in other words...there are rumors that something may or may not happen in the near or far future...i love ambiguity

also, i love to be the first poster..it adds meaning to my life :'(

or not..

That narrows it down.

Ok. Sooooo... what are you saying, exactly? It could be any day now but just not sure when?

Just kidding. :D

30" screens PLEASE!

What I want.........what I need is adjustable 30" displays with half inch frames for multi-screen set ups.

ah the inevitalbe updates....hopefully soon but could be pushed back even further.....waiting can be fun? maybe

I really wish that along with display updates, they'd update the apple cinema display pamphlets so they'd unfold to the sizes of the displays, I know it is a minute detail, but if I'm going to be spending a lot of money on a display, I want to make sure that it "fits".

*goes and makes a cardboard one (23")*

Oh please, oh please...

I sure hope Apple has some new products ready to roll on Tuesday or the following...if for no other reason...it's time to move on to the next round of rumors.

Cold Mountain Sweepstakes = New Powermacs???

Seems to me like the Cold Mountain Sweepstakes drawing date, which was today, could indicate something to do with the PowerMac updates. The entry form page has been redirected for a week or so now, but the original link was at... http://www.apple.com/go/coldmountain/register/

I suspect the drawing will be sometime this week and perhaps coincide with the updates. The grand prize of the sweepstakes is a dual 2 Ghz powermac G5 with flat screen and a trip to Los Angeles to some video editing seminar.

this is a small bump for such a long wait.

I figure after waiting this long, I may as well hold out for the 3.0 dualies later in tthe year. I know this behavior drives Apple crazy, but I don't need a desktop, and this update, if accurate, is very uninspiring.

But who knows what I'll do. One thing is for certain, though, no new PM until they refresh the displays.

I'm going nuts waiting!!!!!!!

I have been wanting to buy a new Power Mac G5 for the past month now. I have no idea how much longer I can really wait!! I don't want to buy anything until the new G5's come out but the waiting is driving me nuts!! I have a G3/266mhz beige tower that really needs to be updated. I am going to wait until March 30th but I have no idea wht I will do if nothing happens by then!! I have a funny suspicion that somehting is right around the corner because Apple changed it's homepage last week to really promote the G5. If I were a betting man I would say something will happen this week.

I doubt the imacs will be updated until later this summer with the G5 chip.

So it's also possible that Apple are mearly trying to beef up sales for this quarter and NOTHING is coming out anytime soon...damn :(

Stop saying depressing things, especially when they make sense...

That would suck, for both me and Apple. Steve, I'm all set to spend $2500. The time of this transaction is entirely up to you.

All signs point at a wave of products being released within the month.

On my wish list:

-New LCD monitors
-New iPods

I want...no NEED both :D

Sorry. Just as depressing for me. I have a similiar amount of money ready for the new G5PB...God knows how long I am going to wait for that to appear...in Australia...

anonymous submission: "G5s are now comming up as D01 at compusa. for those that don't know what this means it is an internal code that is place on a product in the computer system to indicate a product is discontinued"

can anyone confirm?

Reason could be that Apple has stopped production of the G5, which means updates with new product numbers. This code is good news. It generally happens when updates are made, or replacements are made. It also likely means that Apple has started to produce the new G5s, which is also good becasue there won't be a long wait for delivery.

March 30

Geeks rejoice and hail me!. (When this comes true) This is my first prediction, so I have never been wrong. March 30th IS the date of the new Power Mac releases, along with the new displays. After the promos and before the big IBM thing on the 31st. (Macrumors lifted that word for word from an earlier post that I had written). Of course everyone will whine and complain that it is not enough then wait for the mythical 3ghz then the 3.5 then the 4.... Then the G6 and G7....Forget the 30" display, There will be a 17" cinema display however, to put consistent aspect ratios across the display line. Also look for a major FinalCut release at NAB along with some server goodies that will blow the AVID out of the water. They do say that they are moving pictures, sound AND THE INDUSTRY.
