Prompted by the recent post regarding Minecraft and Java SE 6 for PPC, I downloaded the related packed and installed it on a few of my systems. Eventually I got the notion to give it a whirl on my famous heavily upgraded Power Macintosh 8600. (450MHz Sonnet G4, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9200)

Low and below it actually works. I only get a handful of FPS but its actually at least twice as good as my iMac G4 800Mhz. The GPU must play some factor, even though I would have thought intensely Java based Minecraft 1.0 would have leaned predominantly on the CPU.

In any case, here's a few pictures and a brief video of my geeky achievements:

For general tasks, boot and overall, it’s my snappiest pre-Intel mac. Running Tiger it really flys, even compared to my MBP. That second CPU makes a big difference.

Have you tried more recent versions of Minecraft?
