Well the waiting could be worth it if they are dual core dual processors all around. That would be one fast computer.

You mean it can do more... it's still only as fast as the fastest processor.

I mean, seriously.. don't all of you know that Apple will launch PBs with Intel chips in 2006.. I cannot believe how many people just cry and cry "Waaaahhh no powerbooks!" The main reason why they are moving to Intel (besides pricing) is the heat issue.. and thats why there will be no powerbook updates!! So relax..geez..comments like "Thats it.. i am not waiting for a powerbook anymore" are so stupid because, hello.. Apple actually announced that they will come out in 2006.

In my profession, we have been using powerbooks that are 2-3 years old and they are more than adequate for all kinds of audio/video work.. you have to have good peripherals like SCSI drives to make it rock. So I am curious as to what kind of power users are out here.. who keep lusting for the latest powerbook. Same with the PMG5.. studios still use G4 powermacs ..maxed out and they handle audio/video applications with ease.

So, are you lusting for a power increase in the PBooks/PMs because of.. what? Its like a bunch of people who look at the newest Porsche and go "Oh yeah!! nice update!!!" and if you ask them "Are you going to buy this?" they go "No, we just like to comment and whine..."

Or are you just a bunch of super rich kids who dump their current computers as soon as a new update comes out and splurge..

:)

I'm working on a 3 year old 1GHz PowerBook and it's at the end of its life. The display's gone funky for one thing, but having better AirPort and built in Bluetooth are driving me to want an upgrade.

What I don't want is a Rev A Intel unit, and the mediocre speed bumps they've given so far mean that the only reason I'd get a new machine is for the wireless and to fix the display.

I'm budgeted for a new machine this year, but I have a hard time justifying the expense for such a small gain.

If this rumor is accurate, then it looks like I'll have to settle for what is essentially a repair job, some nice features and just a little more speed-- or wait another 3 years for the Rev B Intels. Not the kind of purchase that makes you jump up and down with excitement, and I want to be able to jump up and down if I'm going to spend that kind of money.

If it was on another countries site then why does it have the City, State, and Zip box? Isn't the phone number supposed to be different too?

I especially like the links on the bookmark bar. "Pron"?

If that is fake then god damn it's good. The address and everything, someone must have put a lot of effort into that for no reason. I'd laugh very hard if it ends up being real.

If you're gonna buy one of the present models (forced or out of desperation and frustration from waiting), can't hurt to wait till Tuesday (lame upgrades or not) as they will still be better than the current offerings. And if the price is the same or lower, you win either way ... extra features, no extra cost.

If they have HD screens wouldn't they me more likely to be more expensive?

I'm still chuggin along on my 500 MHz TiBook. Screen is great, but no writable drive (ouside of the external CD writer I bought). Have to copy to a FireWire portable and write things at work. :(

However, I'd rather wait till I see what I like, and I will keep chugging alng until I do. :D

This latest AppleInsider rumor sounds bogus. If Apple were stealing personel from the PPC lines to work on the Intel lines then how do you explain the substancially updated iMac.

Apple knows this is the last update before Intel and that it needs to be relatively stout to keep sales up for the next 9-12 months.

I believe Jobs said that as soon as the last iMac was released a year ago, they started working on this one-- that's how I explain it. A year to shave the housing back, add a camera and write new drivers?

I hope you're right on that last point though-- the alternate view is that they building pent up demand to boost adoption of the Intel platform (and drive software conversion) and intend to subsist on iPod revenue in the mean time...

I hate the alternate view...

A lot of people on this thread are saying "PCI-X" graphics. It is not PCI-X, it is PCIe. PCI-X is just a faster PCI bus.

HD screens are becoming more and more affordable. I just bought a Dell Dimension 9100 on a great company deal for my folks with a 2405FPW (24" Wide Screen) at a price that was less than the present 20" iMac. Had a 250 GB SATA drive, 16x DVD RW, DVD-ROM, 6 speaker Dolby Surround Kit, Dual TV tuners with remote, etc. They are gonna freak out. If I weren't a Mac loyalist, I just might have to keep this durn thing for myself.

If these are the updates, I think these models are going to be a bit of a failure. I think it would be sad to introduce HD displays when your hardware can barely support the playback of HD content. Granted that that's not the only reason for having an HD display. I think Apple is stuck between a rock and a hard place for this one.

Excellent news on the PowerMacs - hopefully we'll see as significant an upgrade to that line as we just did with the iMac line.

As for the PowerBooks, those upgrades sound pretty good as well, but I'm concerned when they say there may be no processor improvements. Regardless of the other updates, I think this is still an important issue, especially when it is fairly easy to drop a 7448 in there. For the PowerBook update to be a success in my mind, the processor definitely needs to be upgraded as well, regardless of the other improvements.

Guess we'll see next Tues- er, Wednesday... ;)

My thoughts exactly! I'm so tired of people saying "if they don't have a new Powerbook next week i'm just going to buy a Dell." Gosh, if you feel that way then get the dell, good riddance!

Hey Shard ... off subject ...

I saw you posted an animated image of the "24" TV show. What is a good application (Mac or PC) for generating an animated Avatar. If you answered it under the other thread and I missed it, please accept my apology. Anyone else feel free to offer info. Thanks. Not my area of expertise. :(

It wasn't a goof. It was a fake created yesterday. Already been addressed. ;)

Who the junk has time on their hands to make a fake of something that will be updated in less than a week? An image which no one will remember much less care about a month from now!?? WHo?!? Who puts in this futile effort?

(Not calling you guys liars, just doesn't make sense to me why someone would care enough)

Powerbook Update

Why bother if there is no processor beyond what is currently available.

What if Apple decides to implement a 7448 and just waits for Merom instead? ;)

I'll skip this update anyway.
