... if it's true... :p ;)
What if Apple decides to implement a 7448 and just waits for Merom instead? ;)

I think this is actually the most likely scenario.

Why else the rumor that Apple was requesting Intel to deliver the Merom Chip to them early. They want to put it in the PB this summer and hate to drag it out until 4th Qtr 2006.

Aiden has made an excellent case for the first Mactels being based on the Dothan. Probably the mini and the ibook series this spring. Then Apple wants to put merom's in the iMac & PB by late summer. Finally spring 2007 PM go Intel with best 64 bit dual core available.

I guess I wasn't paying attention when this report came out.
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1273

I completely forgot about this report until today; it came out over a month ago on September 16, 2005. They were right about pretty much everything they reported concerning the iMac.

Maybe this is why iSight has seen so few updates, because these cameras are going to eventually be incorporated into a majority of the machines.

Obviously Powerbooks are going to include this built-in iSight eventually. Hopefully we will see this design when the Intel powered Powerbooks comeout.

Some rumors have talked about a 13"-13.3" wide possibly appearing, but can't even begin to presume that at this time. Steve will do what he believes will continue to make Apple lots of money.

iBooks can be run with 20in Monitor's no problem. The screen spanning hack has been around forever.

stock powerbook configs for the 15'' and 17'' just went to 3-5 days on the US store. Looks like the pb's are gonna be updated for sure like the powermacs

Yep - namely the Conroe/Woodcrest chipsets. This is why 970MP PowerMacs make sense - they will tide us over for 12-16 months until we see the Intel PowerMacs.

I guess so......... I wonder if these new screens and such, will want to make me sell my current 15". If so that means I'll be getting a lot of Mac deliveries in the next couple of weeks. Thanks Apple for again making me go bankrupt :p

They have also been decared "end of line" so, its time for updates alright.. otherwise no more powerbooks at all...

yeah, but it's what you said...a hack. Us regular Joes want it to "just work"

Where did you see the EOL'd notation? (and it's End of Life). ;)

I still think a G5 might be a possibility, look how thin the iMac is now - and that is with desktop components in it (except the superdrive). What else have the PB engineers been working on - sure they have claimed that the PB guys have been focusing more on Intel...but who really knows, anyways? They had to have put megabucks into research trying to make a G5 work in a Powerbook.

And, if the rumor about it being the "Powerbook HD" is true, then wouldn't it make sense to have a G5 in it, so it will actually be able to edit HD video?

Just my thoughts. I'll of course be happy with any update and buy whatever it is, regardless.

Looks like AI may be right about the 12" PBs not being updated at all... :(

It's all about the heat though. I don't think they've figured out how to prevent making scrambled eggs out of 'yer own eggs. Desktop G5s are easier to cool.

What about the 970GX that IBM released a few months ago, is that a low-power, low-heat version of the G5?

You've just gotten my hopes for a G5 PB, although I seriously still doubt it'll happen, but with apple ya never know. Steve did say they'd never do video in a iPod and look what happened yesterday.

PCI-X != PCI express
PCI express = PCIe
PCI-X = sucks for video, worse then AGP

PCIe it is then, my bad. Anyone know if the ram maximum will go up with DDR2? Do 1.5GB or 2GB dimms exist for DDR2, which would up the max ram to 3 or 4 gigs instead of the current 2?

ummmmm..... no

c'mon, you honestly think they would spend all this time to make a G5pb for a single revision before they redesign the whole thing again for intels?

theres a greater chance of apple abandoning mac os and running windows instead then a pbg5

BTO PBs have had 3-5 day shipping times for awhile now; Apple seems to be getting better at "cloaking" telltale signs such as the shipping times that used to be good indicators in the past. Have there been a lot of PBs refurbished and offered up in special deals? That tends to be a better indicator.

STOCK means - not BTO. the mass produced ones :)

Yes, I really think that, that's why I posted it.

They said they'd be shipping Intel Macs by mid-2006, with the migration to all-Intel complete by the end of 2007, right? Who ever said that there would be just a single revision of anything? Maybe the Pro machines, PB included, will be the ones that will run through 2007 - with multiple revisions of a G5 PB to come. We'll find out next week.

I stand by my claim that if they are going to call it a Powerbook HD (which nobody is sure of yet, of course), it better be able to edit HD, not just play it and not just have a 1920x1200 screen.
