I don't know really. I already have one so I'm not looking to buy one. Mine was originally a 400 but one of the RAM slots died. I managed to get a 500 processor from the US quite cheaply. Don't ask how long ago that was as I wouldn't have a clue but It was still in regular use.

I doubt I would pay more than about A$250 for one these days.

Pismo's are demanding high prices the last I checked on ebay. I just need pram batteries for my G4 Titanium and Pismo G4, but have been having issues finding those.

Oh, just found out too, one can install PC133 memory in the Pismo which is radically kewl since its a 100mhz bus system. Strange it accepts and recognizes PC133.

I would like to get a G4 for my Pismo but they are very rare these days. There is a non working one on eBay.co.uk (I think) at the moment.

I am going to refurb my own PRAM battery. I would like to do the main battery as well but that is a more complicated (and more dangerous) proposition.

Hi, you can still find G3 Pismo batteries on the web. They still exist and can sometimes show up when you least expect them, as for the prams ? I need that mostly.

PC133 is backwards compatible with PC100 entirely. I have a stick of PC133 in my Lombard that I borrowed from my iBook G3, and I use PC133 in my Sawtooth. It's just underclocking, same as a 1GHz CPU from a Quicksilver will be 750MHz in a Sawtooth.

No, I saw a seller on ebay who is selling a G3 500 Pismo and he has 133mhz memory in there and I saw with my own eyes - 133mhz being recognized and being run at 133mhz ! I can send you the pic. This is really cool and nice to know, since I can get rid of the pc100 and use PC133. This is not just underclocking, its actually running at 133mhz.

I'd like to see that. I'm pretty sure the memory in my Pismo is 133MHz.

no its running at 100Mhz still

system profiler in Mac OS X just reports what OpenFirmware is able to pull from the SPD data of the RAM stick, since its a PC133 stick thats what it reports

if you want to see what speed its actually running at, boot into Mac OS 9 and you will see it "only" says PC100-222 or such, the actual speed its running at

Ok I will look at this more closely.
No, it definitely isn’t running at 133Mhz, the bus cannot be changed just by putting faster rated RAM in. If that was the case then it would be all over the interne.

My Pismo gives the same figure but is still only running at 100Mhz ;)

Cheers :)

Hugh
Ok, you are right. I am not sure what I was looking at - Maybe it was G4 Titaniums. Yeah, I read no lower G4 or G3 can use run at 133mhz memory.

I posted this on the eBay thread:

I have just welcomed a new addition! A 400Mhz 'Pismo' PowerBook G3. Sold as 'untested' on eBay - which I read as 'this machine will almost certainly not work'. so was very pleasantly surprised when I got my power cord out and it booted first time! Display/speakers/optical(DVD)drive all work perfectly fine!

Seems to have been last used in 2006, and from the few files and apps on there it looks to have been previously owned by an art/multimedia school of some description. The most surprising thing about it though is that it is in PERFECT condition. There is not as much as a scratch on the case. It has all four of its feet. Flipping back the keyboard and the internals look as clean as the day it rolled off the production line. It was clearly very well taken care of, and then must have been packed away very neatly for the last 16 years.

Now to decide what to do with it. I actually don't have a Mac OS 9.2 install disk anymore, so can't really reset it to factory settings... though I do have a 10.4 bootable USB... so may just install OS X on it...

Thoughts?!

That's a very nice Pismo, also check if all of the software on it (including extensions) has been archived before you reinstall if you decide to flash 9.2 (the Mac OS 9 Lives version is the best) to a spare USB drive. I sure do wish my education PowerBook was that neatly taken care of! They halfway destroyed it trying to take out the hard drive. VCU isn't nearly as reverential of their old hardware, clearly.
Pismos (and Lombards) can take up to 128GB drives, including mSATA SSDs inside of an adapter, and 1GB RAM (512MB for the Lombard, maybe, but I don't know for absolute certain since I've only tested one 512MB sticK). I hear they're great machines for typing, I personally think the keyboard is mushy, but it's luxurious compared to this dying Logitech G910. Also good for music production (I suppose that's why it came from an art school), can do web browsing (if just), and their Rage 128s, while not mindblowing, are decent enough for 3D Classic software -- including 3D modelers/raytracers.
