I have been following this thread, as I am the owner of a quicksilver that my parents use. Its a tank of a tower. But sometime this coming summer I am going to upgrade them to a used mac mini intel core 2 duo. If you could post pictures that would be awesome, Thanks.

Haha, I should take some pictures of it now with the 8800GS and the fan I mounted on the front :)

If anyone is thinking about doing this mod, just make sure you know how to use a Dremel. You'll need it!

Definitely would be interested in seeing the front mounted fan. I was thinking of putting something like MASSCOOL FHD-4020S1H HDD Cooler in the old Zip drive area.

Thanks all on PSU tips. I think I will be going with the Antec Earthwatts as suggested and figure out something else for lighting. Also good point velocityg4 on the E5200, I'm probably going to see how far I can get with the stock cooler on that one. Also GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L does support 1600 OC if you check the manufacturer's site. Also looks a bit smaller than the other one so will probably stick with it.

lucky you were dual booting

there's no single application in mac that will completely utulise that 8800GS

OOH.. and put the hard drive under the cd drive because putting it where the hard drive cages are will damage the SATA cable and you might not be able to close it.

Dremel is the main thing.

I've got 3 120mms in the side. I used one of those industrial drillers that gave me a grill like look.

Plus I mounted usb ports on the side. And sound ports.

I'm actually considering selling this unit. It has been upgraded to a 8800GS in addition to the original specs, any offers?

This shot here shows the location of the CPU in relation to the powersupply when the case is closed. Cooler height as mentioned could be an issue.

does anybody know where they got this case from cause the red and black are the sickest thing i've ever seen... and my friend just bought a powermac G4 case and we want to make something like this

That is just a repainted case. I would assume the just did it themselves. You can just get a case like that on eBay then repaint it.

The case is the same between Yikes, Sawtooth and Gigabit Ethernet G4's. The Digital audio case is nearly exactly the same except there are five expansion slots as opposed to four.

Just an update. This machine has been my main machine for nearly 20 months and it will soon be relegated to media server/boxee box since I've ordered the parts for a new quad core hackintosh. I was looking over my build process and this was for sure a fun project, glad I did it. :D

I'll post a picture of it in it's new home shortly!

Ok, what bit did you use with the dermal to cut through the backplane? It's taken me about 15 minutes to cut a little between 2 of the pre cut holes
