i dont understand why everyone is so excited about a g5 chip. most likely they will loose a couple hundred mhz and be slower then a g4 chip..

Let's say Apple manages to produce a 1.4GHz G4 Tower (which would be a feat), what happens to the PowerBook? Does this mean the PowerBook sits at about half the desktop speed for another 6 months?

How can they pick up 400Mhz on a G4 in 6 months period time !!!

Why? Where's the causal context?
They even shipped the b/w G3 in the El Capitan case.
So the processor had no influence on the case before.
Suppose they come out with a G4 in a new case, and that in less than a years time they come out with a G5... That would mean shipping a G5 in an 'old' casing, or changing cases twice in one years time.
Don't you think it would be smarter to wait just a little longer with that new case just to make the transition to the G5 all the more special?

Yeah, or they could make the new G4 towers blue again to paint the same case gray again for the G5
