My thing hangs at patching and im unable to restore as itunes doesnt like my ipod. Any help?

I'm having the same problem...and everyone is saying to reset your ipod and then restore and then try everything again...but iTunes won't restore my ipod...I get an error message "The iPod could not be restored. An unkown error message occurred (-18).

success!

My xp system completely refused to run touchfree.exe. I gave up and used the instructions here:

http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Windows_jailbreak

The touchfree zip file is a great resource because it has everything you need except for perhaps a hex editor. The itunes 1.1.1 file structure can be found on {site reference removed by moderator}

The whole thing took about an hour, but wasn't very hard.

For all of you that are getting errors when trying to restore:

"So if you bricked it (like me) with the tiff, here's how you force a restore. Hold the sleep and home button until your ipod turns off. Keep holding them until the apple logo appears, then release the sleep button, but keep holding the home button. This will force a restore in itunes, your ipod will then completely restore."

Didn't work for me...

I have followed the instructions down to a T.

Running XP 2000
Moves iTunesmobiledevice.dll to same folder as touchfree.exe
Restored my iPod
Yes, I have .NET Framwork 2.0 installed
Yes, I visited http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com on my ipod and safari did crash.
Ran touchfree.exe and I got up to 'patching ipod flash image' and then got a error mesage and the program crashed

Just restored my iPod...

Thank you to everyone else for all the support.

Bennet, did you get it working? Ensure the sync cable is properly seated and the USB port is 2.0 and iTunes is NOT open.

I went to the jailbreak site, so safari crashed and it comed back to springboard. then I killed all the iTunes tasks by task manager, so I started touchfree.exe. but somthing hasen't worked, so my rdisk0s1 file was of 0 bit; then apply freezed. so i colosed it. I tried again, but I got just a 96 MB file; then aplly freezed and I colosed it. I tried hex-editing the file looking for "noexec", but i didn't find it.
Notes:

I was running the touchfree program and I was on stage 2 when I accidentally closed it out. Now when I try to run the touchfree program again I keep getting stuck on the "Patching iPod flash image" step of stage one. Any help with this one? I know it says to type 'touchfree.exe two' in the command line to resume from stage 2, but I don't know what the command line is or where I can find it. I would appreciate any help :D
