the best computer I have is the one at work. Its a PC. I can connect my Ipod touch to the work Wifi.

Could i jailbreak it at work or does it have to be done on your home machine at home.

Okay, I plan on doing this later today.
I have the iPhone applications in a zip file (Windows machine).

Once touchfree.exe runs successfully (which I hope it will), how do I get the applications that I want to add onto the iTouch? I thought I saw the tutorial someplace on these forums but now cannot find it. I am not so concerned about email but I would like notes, maps, weather, and the books.app (maybe even Tetris).

I know books.app and the tetris game I have to get somewhere else. But again, just installing the iPhone apps, can anyone help me out? Much appreciation.

Thank you in advance!

You need to use an SFTP client on your computer to copy the application directories (e.g, mobilemaps.app, etc) to the Applications directory on your touch. Winscp is a good, free SFTP client. You use it to log into your touch using root/alpine as the username/password. Winscp provides an explorer-like interface that will allow you to copy the folders from your computer and paste them into the Applications directory on the touch. After you do this, you need to execute a command on your touch through SSH (PuTTY) in order to make the new applications executable. The instructions for doing this have been posted many times already in this thread.

I am successfully Jailbroken :D touchpack 3 worked flawlessly

But the USB read/write issue in itunes is still there :(

hah never mind the post right before mine has instructions :D Thanks poster :D

But i would still appreciate it if somebody could link me to the zip of the applications as the ones I have seen have all went down :( or if possible somebody could email them to me?

Also what program do I use to get multiple spring board pages? I know i seen it before, But i dont want to search through like 11 pages of this thread.

Your iPod needs to be connected to wi-fi the ENTIRE time for this process to work. It should also be connected through USB to your computer until the jailbreak is complete. If you do not have a reliable wi-fi connection, I would not recommend attempting this.

Thanks! Already had a feeling it would have to be that way, now I'll have to go shopping for a wireless router... woohoo! :p

I am probably being stupid :), but could someone please tell me where I can get the maps app?.

Thanks

(oh, and the mail app too please :D)

just got the iphone apps installed and they work flawlessly :D

Quick question. Can we copy music and movies to the device minus itunes now??

I keep getting a "cannot connect", I have disabled my firewall and I keep getting the same message. I have checked my ipods ip and it is connected to my wifi and my computer, and my wireless is up and running from my pc...

Keep your iPod plugged into the PC. Hold the Home and Sleep button until the ipod turns off. When it turns off, let go of the SLEEP button while continuing to hold the HOME button. After a while, your ipod will go into restore mode, and itunes will be able to restore it.

I've held both those buttons and released when the apple logo comes up. Do I need to hold it longer than that? Because when I release once the apple logo comes up I still can't restore it

Edit: Nevermind! You do need to hole the sleep AND home button. When it turns off, wait for itunes to say u are in recovery mode. Thanks for saving my ass

I get an error with the latest update.

Couldn't create new file dropbear_dss_host_key
reason: file exists
reading ipod flash image...

Error = iphuc.exe Entry Point Not Found
The Procedure entry point for CFCopyDescription could not be located in the dynamic link library QTML Client

I got that exact same error. One guy posted that instead of double clicking the touchfree.exe you should instead right click and do run as administrator. He said that would fix the problem. I have yet to try this.

Can someone confirm that this process will work in Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit?

Also, what are the implications for this hack if Apple releases 1.1.2 for iPhone/iPtouch? Would updating break the hack? Is there a way to remove the hack, and safely update to 1.1.2 (ending up with an un-hacked, updated device)?

thats the reason Im waiting, because no one can accurately guess or even possibly know if there are any ramifications for what you just described. I honestly hope they release 1.1.2 soon so I can find out if thats the case. if it doesnt nothing to the ipod, i will be happy and hack mine that very day, however, no one knows!

I can't figure out how to get apps such as NES on my touch either. I dont know what it means to SFTP it to my applications folder.

I think I'm giving up on this Jailbreaking crap until a 1 click solution is released. We need something like the IphoneSimFree for the Touch.
It's times like this, I wish I was a code monkey.

At the very least one can always restore a jailbreaked touch back to 1.1.1 firmware before applying any future updates. This has been tried successfully.

i'll enter everything right, at least i think and this is what will come up Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the host running a SFTP server?

If you've successfully completed the jailbreak process, then an SFTP server will be up and running on your touch. Are you entering the correct IP address (your touch's) in Winscp? If so, then something probably went wrong w/ your jailbreak.

Now that the touch has been jailbroken is there any chance that someone could add support for flash on the Internet?

could it be that my ipod is healing its self from read-write access. im using windows xp sp2

Umm, no. There is no way for your ipod to "heal" itself. Once read/write has been enabled on it, it will stay that way until you restore the original firmware to it.

Follow steps 7.5-7.11 in http://www.iphonealley.com/news/ipho…allation-guide (when they say type, they mean type in the SSH session)
