Let me know if this is correct (as i haven't tried it), but i believe you launch an SSH session by opening "putty.exe" within the "touchFree.zip" file and go into the "Session" category.

Under "host name (or IP address)", you would type in your iPod's IP address. I don't know about port number though (it seems to have one picked already).

Connection type would be "SSH" then click "open". This is just my best guess. Anyone know which port to use?

Let me know if this is right?

Yes, this sounds correct, based on my experience with PuTTY. You should be able to use the default port for SSH, which is 22.

Ok I followed all the instructions and it worked perfectly!

Be patient when using the touchfree programme as it takes several minutes, make sure you reboot the ipod the right number of times.

To SSH just open up putty and enter the IP address of the touch.

To get the IP address just click on the blue arrow next to the network your connected to and it will tell you the IP.

When logging in the password WILL NOT appear when your typing so type it correctly then press enter, if you make a mistake I would quit putty and start over!

I just copy and pasted the instructions for the SSH.

BE patient when the installer is doing its bit - after downloading it updates and does a few other things so wait for a minute or so after each process.

I can confirm everything worked and installer is sitting on my touch now and I can still sync with itunes!

Now all I have to do is find all those iphone apps!

I also would add this experience will be very helpful when I upgrade my iPhone when that is simpler! Thanks.

AHHH, so I got every thing working but now the row that has the music, itunes, videos and stuff is at the top of my ipod and it's over the first row of icons. HELP!

so to clarify (for myself and maybe others), during this exercise, the ipod is to be connected via usb cable and also wifi?

also, assuming you have the iphone apps, how does one get the apps into the ipod? if you were to install the iphone's calendar, will you end up with two calendar icons? will it sync with outlook properly?

thanks much

Does the process outlined by this thread install the iPhone apps (i.e. editable calendar, mail, google maps, etc.)?

If not included, where should one go to look for the iPhone apps?

so once installer.app is installed, how do you add the iphone features (mail, maps, stocks, weather, etc.)? i think i read it in another tutorial, it's just hard to keep them all straight. I just want everything in one spot!

edit: guess everyone is asking the same thing at once!

I'm getting the following error
Fatal: Network error: Connection refused

So what now?

Hey, yeah.
How do you get the iphone apps on the touch?
I have the whole app thing done, it's amazing.
:O

The instuctions found here

http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_Guide#Instructions_for_Installing_iPhone_Applications

should work. You will need 2 things: an SFTP client for windows, and a copy of the iPhone applications. Winscp (http://winscp.net) is a free SFTP client for windows that you can use. As for the applications themselves, well that might be a bit harder. In theory they are copyrighted, so not many people are going to just link to them. They seem to be available via BitTorrent, if you are familiar with that.

Very familiar with bittorrent. anyone who puts the apps on the ipod touch via SFTP, post a small tutorial using winscp or whatever program you choose.

Hey, Im new to this forum, since I bought an ipod touch a few days ago. I fixed my other problem, but now when I open putty and connect, i enter the username but when it asks for the password when I type nothing happens.

When I open TOUCHFREE the command window opens, but nothing appears. Any suggestions?

music, video?

After doing this can you still sync your music and video? I read rumors yesterday that you can't listen to music after doing this, is this true?
