How did that work exactly? Did you still order (and pay?) on the Apple Store product page, and if so was there an option to pick up in store? Or did you book an appointment via that shop's page on the Apple site?

I have pre ordered online, but no payment was taken. You pick your time slot and just turn up at the shop. The shops do have 2 seperate queue, one for normal customers and one for 'reserve and collect'.

Could not have been easier.

So, what would be the best way to get the watch on the release date?

Have the watch shipped to you or do an in-store pick up?

It depends how close you are to a store and how available you are to sign for a package that arrives. I prefer in store as I'm not dependent on a carrier showing up at a random time.

Depends on your availability. For myself I'll be taking the day off to be at home for the deliver. I'm over an hour from the nearest Apple Store so cheaper to wait at home for the delivery truck.

I was in the Apple Store this week, I needed to pick up a Withings Scale and a Withings Blood Pressure checker... But they said I could order online or in the store for pick up in the store on the 24th. That's my plan.

I would have it shipped to my office, I will be working and someone is always here to sign. UPS and FedEx delivers around 12noon.

The nearest Apple store is one city South, Manhattan Beach, which is about 10 minutes away. Theoretically, I could go while working but don't really want to go in uniform. Probably just go after work at around 7pm.

Clearly, sitting on your ass at home or going about your life and having it arrive on your doorstep on release day is the way to go. Just be sure to order right when they go on sale.

Some people like to go to the store and make an event out of it. I could see doing that, but it's not worth the aggravation.

I did the whole release day queuing thing for the iPhone 4, so that's out of my system and I'll have the watch delivered instead. I've booked the 24th off work and I'll spend the day sat on the stairs watching my front door. Occasionally I plan to wander into the kitchen to look out of the window. Then back to the stairs. Watching. Waiting.

Hello, does anyone have any experience pre-ordering online and paying the full amount with an Apple Store Gift card?

I want to pre-order the sport edition ($399) with a $450 gift card, but I've read in another thread that Apple requires you to use a credit card when preordering:

I'm assuming that you will be able to use it. My dad used a gift card when he preordered his 6. You just can't save the gc info in the Apple Store App. As somebody mentioned in another thread you can have all of the gc info in a file so you can copy and paste quickly.

The Apple Store is 10 minutes away from me and I will be off on the 24th. I could be there when the store opens. Would it be best to do in store pick up? Would there be a long wait or could I just go up to someone, get my watch and leave quickly?

Everything I've ever ordered from Apple has been delivered on time.

Maybe the carrier are scared of losing apple's (huge) contract - so they prioritise them.

You are aware there won't be any walk in purchases at least in the beginning. You're going to have to reserve online for instore pickup.

Do you think we will be able to reserve in advance? For example I can't make it to the Apple Store near me here in the UK until the 25th (the day after release) but with pre-orders and reservations starting on the 10th I wonder if I would be able to reserve that far in front?
