Does anyone know if you cant get one for the release date you can simply order one to be sent once they are available?

I'm also a bit concerned about this. I'm going to pre-order outright as I did with the 4S as soon as Apple let me and being the child I am, I want to play with my new toy as soon as I get it. Hopefully us in the UK won't get ignored and the Nano Sim isn't too hard to get hold of. I'm with O2 by the way, ;)

I want one on a Three contract, does anyone know:

1. If I'm better off trying to get it through Apple or Three (I think I remember someone saying that
2. If Apple, can I preorder one on contract or do I have to turn up the store at 4am on launch day?
3. If I even can get a Three contract iPhone on launch day? :p

I think (don't quote me!) that when they run out of preorders it says on the Store page that dispatch will be in X days/weeks.

That's what I thought, thanks.

I'm just itching to buy a SGS3. Been using io6 beta on my 4S and it's ok, again it's US-centric and just a bit more of the same.

I'm not wanting, thinner, 2 toned, lighter etc I just want wider. If the leaks are true then it's Samsung for me. Don't know why I'm waiting for the Keynote, it's all pretty much a foregone conclusion.

I was with Vodafone when I got my Micro SIM in June 2010 and I just walked into a VF store and asked for a SIM and they transferred me over there on the spot (that doesn't help with your 3 query I know! :D )

Yeah... like you said... that reallllllllly helps with my 3 query! ;)

Cheers for the response - I just walked into a 3 store before when I needed my normal sim changing to a micro sim and they did it for me within 5 minutes. I'm hoping 3 are doing nano sims on release day but I'm not letting me hopes get too high :(

Well apparently, the European operators have been stockpiling Nano SIMS for a while, somim sure we'll all be ok. ;)

I will be sitting on the sidelines awaiting the unboxing videos and reviews.

Watching the forums for the early threads on people's thoughts and concerns.

Then if I like the phone aesthetically and also what's under its hood I will purchase one outright ,probably from my nearest Apple outlet as my network will not offer the new iPhone on payg for 3-4 months'ish after release to contract customers.

Exciting times ahead.

Wonder if it will follow suite with the 4 and 4s and retail at £499.00 GBP on pay as you go in the Uk ?

I think we will get 3 storage options at the usual price - £500/£600/£700. I also think that they will keep the storage options at 16/32/64 but I'm REALLY hoping for 32/64/128 with the 16gb being reserved for the iPhone 4S available for £429 (current price of an 8gb iPhone 4).

A word of warning - A friend of mine waited about a week after launch before deciding to buy a 4S. He tried his best over the next few days to find a 16gb model available in various Apple stores within the area but they were all sold out. In the end, he couldn't wait any longer and just decided to smack down £600 for a 32gb. In hindsight, he is happy with his decision and reckons he would have regretted buying the 16gb but what I'm trying to say is that if you're after the base £500 model, be prepared to wait a few weeks for it.

I joined the game pretty late when I purchased an iPhone 4, and watched the 4s not be available on 02 for around 4 months to payg customers, but I remember even checking on Apples Uk site and the option to reserve the 16gb or 32gb was near impossible !

I tend to agree with Apple sticking to 16,32 and 64gb versions.

I'm a patient guy with this kind of stuff and never have felt the need to be one of the first to obtain one straight away. That being said a big heads up to the early adopters, as these guys and gals help me when making my choice a little later down the line.

For such a large outlay I'm prepared to wait !

Hope this isn't the case!!

Am I right in saying that when I purchase my next gen iPhone on release date from Apple it will be unlocked?? Planning on pre ordering online hopefully..........

Stuart.

If you're purchasing it outright (no contract), then yes.

I think (don't quote me!) that when they run out of preorders it says on the Store page that dispatch will be in X days/weeks.

What you could do is:

  • Buy one outright from Apple.
  • Sign up to the 3 plan you want by going through Quidco (£120 cashback currently for example).
  • Sell the 4S you get with the 3 contract.
  • Ask 3 to give you a Nano SIM.
  • Stick the Nano SIM in your permanently unlocked i5.

You might find that by selling the 4S and getting cashback from Quidco, you cover the cost of buying thee i5 from Apple, plus you'll have an unlocked iPhone should you need to travel abroad and use a foreign SIM.

I did just that for my i4 (Regent Street).

That's good to hear. I'd rather not chance going to one of the relatively small phone shops in my town where they will probably only get in 10-15 units each on launch day and all be sold out by the time I finish college. It'll be much easier for me to preorder one as I can stroll in when all the crowds have subsided and pick it up.

Haha this made me laugh, being from Walsall.

Back on topic, I reserved my 4 for collection in the bullring store last year, but will be buying the 5 outright (lucky me) this year.

Hopefully Apple's web servers don't get too clogged up with requests!

lolz.. im also from Walsall... near J9 M6.

PS. I'm also gonna order online like i did with the 4.

I am planning on buying outright yes, so this is good news.

Hi guys,

Recently in the UK Apple have offered 30-day sims alongside their unlocked iPhones on the online store. Is it likely that they'll do this at launch again?

On giffgaff atm, don't expect much tbqh - been following the nanosim conversation posted here for weeks. Can't really afford to lose my number either tbh.

I would be very surprised if GG are ready to go with Nano SIMs on day 1.

Might be time to start thinking about porting your number out ready for launch, in case GG don't have NANOs (you can always port it back if/when they do).

Yeah, I've got this in mind also. Looking to switch to Giff Gaff from O2, but will wait as long as I can before getting my PAC code from O2. Believe it only lasts 30 days.....

Thought as much. Say I ported out to O2 onto a standard or micro sim PAYG system, would they just hand over a nano sim when I had already purchased direct from Apple Store? I'd have to port my number into that nano-sim anyway.

As it is, I hope that they release the nano sim on the 12th, and I schedule a number swap onto the nano sim of O2 on the 20th, ready for my iPhone on the 21st.

I'm sure they'll just swap it, why wouldn't they?

You're a customer who needs their product to continue being a customer, so they'll be ready with NANOs (hopefully).

I was on Vodafone when I got my i4 on launch day and I just wandered in to my local Vodafone store, told them I needed a Micro SIM and they sorted it al out there and then.
