I drove to my local Apple Store in Kingston (from Croydon) to pick up my iPhone 4- this was after offering (on the o2 forums!!) anyone that wanted to, a lift in my car to come up with me as I didn't really know the way and didn't really know Kingston too well!)

I ended up picking up a complete stranger and drove to Kingston and waited in line (the queues were massive:eek:) until we got to the front (we were quite lucky as we got selected to bump the queue and got shoved to the front?!?)

This year - dunno if I will be doing the same thing (had to get up at stupid o clock to get to Kingston early enough!)?! Perhaps I may just go to my local o2 stores in Croydon and try my luck or perhaps just order one over the phone.

Then again - anyone fancy joining me in my car again...?!!!!!!!! :D:D:D

Bear in mind that it's only a rumour that it will have Nano SIM slot, with a lot of people thinking that won't be till next years model. So don't do anything too hasty :D

I skipped the 4S launch, did those of you who pre-ordered via the Apple Store App have better luck with server issues?

For theniPhone pre-order page I don't think the app has dedicated access. It was just as slow for me as if I went through Chrome last year.

Question to those in the know here in the UK.......

Assuming that today/tomorrow the invitations will go out, event scheduled for the 12th, release on the 21st. What TIME in the UK should I be poised and ready to pre order on the app store/:apple:.com........

Thanks, Stuart.

If the same as last year happens with the 4s release be prepared to be patient and keep trying.

I for one really hope that the iPhone 5 doesn't have a nano sim. I remember the effort it was just to switch to a micro sim when the 4S came out and so if there really is a micro sim, I just hope its a lot easier to get hold of and switch as I'm on O2 PAYG, :)

Last year pre-orders didn't go up until the Friday after the announcement. However, one blog (iMore, I think) have said that pre-orders will begin immediately after the event. So just be ready to hammer that refresh button!

Okay, so the event will be 10am in the States presumably. An if they do go up straight away that'll be like 5/6 hours difference yeah........?

It'll start here in the UK at 6PM. It'll probably finish somewhere between 7.30 and 8PM. But then it's anyones guess when the store goes back up. As far as I'm aware it doesn't go up as soon as the event finishes but it is usually in the hour after.

Kind of in the same boat dude. On O2 PAYG also, but would like to port vet to Giff Gaff or that I think. I've also heard that the iPhone 5 would ship with a sim in the box anyway. If you're buying it outright from Apple that is. (which is what I'm doin). :)

Excellent man. That's the info I was after! :D

Yeah, I want to switch to Giff Gaff to but I thought I would stick it out until after the release as I thought O2 would get Nano sims before Giff Gaff although they use the same network. I really hope it does ship with a Nano sim if it indeed does require one, be a lot less hassle. Yepp, obuying outright is what I'm planning to do from the Apple Store/App, I did it with the 4S and got it on release day so hopefully I'll be lucky again this year! Glad I've found someone in the same boat as me, :)

Nice one! I'm sure there are many many more in the same boat as us! :D

I've never bought an iPhone before so I'm new to the whole pre-ordering game. I've been on a Blackberry contract for 23 months now, it finally ends a week after the 21st of Sept, perfect timing really.

So in my head buying the phone outright works like this; you reserve one online for pick up in a specific store... you go to the store on release day... handover £X and get an unlocked iPhone 5... sort yourself out a SIM card once all the networks have made their minds up.

Is that an accurate description of release day?

Also, do you have to put down a deposit on the phone when you order it online?

Do you think I could go in say, the Orange shop on the way home and pick up a SIM right there and then or will the new kind of SIM card take a while longer to get to shops.

I understand that you can just have it delivered on the day but I'd like to see what all the hype of an Apple release day is about.

From reading up on O2's Twitter account they are flat out denying any new iPhone, nevermind a nano sim. Just hopefully they'll be well supplied with them and fingers crossed they'll allow pre-orders of the sim for arrival on the 21st like theydid with the iPhone 4. If not I'll be unhappy.

I bought my iPhone 4 subsidised on contract, so i reserved online about a week before then went into the apple store (brum bullring) and sorted out my contract renewal etc.

And yeah the network shops should have the new nano sims in by release day, in fact i'm planning on picking one up between pre-order and release day.

But having said all this i'm buying my iPhone 5 sim free this time, so I have a little more flexibility regarding how i buy it.

are the sims going to be free or will you have to pay for them do you reckon?

I got mine for free when I changed from 3GS to 4S so I assume they'll be free again. I was already on PAYG Simplicity and they just transferred everything to the micro sim so hopefully it'll all be the same.

Yepp, outright just like last year! I'm guessing the price will stay as it has done and start at £499 for the base model, and then go up as the memory does. I bought from Apple on pre-order day last year and received my phone on launch day too so hoping for the same experience. Just I know O2 can sometimes be a bit annoying so hopefully they'll be prepared for this, :)

Cheers buddy,
did you get it posted or did you still have to que to pick it up!
i've only ever que'd for mine on release day.

The phone I had posted to me, but it didn't arrive until about 6 in the evening. The sim I got before the phone although the micro sims were already out as I didn't get the iPhone 4, :)
