I couldn't agree more. I returned my $600 mistake after 6 days.

The general consensus from level headed individuals in the business world regarding the articles of late:

"Media outlets tend to go for headlines that attract a lot of attention, and saying that Apple Watch sales are down 90% can sound like an important piece of news. However, this number doesn't really say much, and it's far too early to measure the true long-term potential of the Apple Watch."

My 2 cents.

Are you speaking to us from the future? Because I'm pretty sure the Watch has been out for only 3 months. How many folks did you know with an iPhone 3 months after launch?
I didn't know anyone with an iPhone for a long time after I got my original one, the first version. I have met a bunch of people who have the watch. It's been a big hit with the women I know including my wife. My wife wants extra bands so she can "accessorize"!

I mentioned in another thread that many of these stupid "failure" comments were made about the Apple Tv device initially. That development has continued and from what I've read a new version is soon to be released along with a planned tv streaming service. And I'm guessing more watches have been sold than the tv devices. Yeah, quite a "failure".

It's not a failure at all. People have terrible expectations for something that's supposed to allow us to stop using our phones for everything. I spend a lot of my work day without my phone at this point unless I'm on a conference call. It's great to be untethered from everything. I don't need to take my phone everywhere to track my fitness (which then opens up all the other distractions as the same time). I'm glad I jumped in when I did - two and a half months after release - so that I could see the use case.

It's beyond me why some people (the author of this article and several people on this forum) devote so much time and energy into hoping a product fails.

It's just sad.

So what, you didn't like your watch. Thousands of others do. Life goes on, be happy you got your money back. The rest of us will get back to enjoying our purchases.

Because it's Apple. People like to try and knock the best off the mountain. That's how ****** tech press works.

Anything for clicks I guess.

Exactly that. Slice is also trying to sell themselves as a data analysis company, which they are far from and never will be as their data is very limited in scope and has bias towards power users, and will continue to pump out this garbage.

so, three months after launch the watch is only available in a dozen countries with shipping times of 1-2 weeks for the most popular models because apple can't keep up yet the watch is flopping?

mwahahahaha!

+1

My wife was on the fence at first, so I didn't order her one on pre-order day. After seeing mine for a couple weeks she kept hinting that she wanted one too, and now loves it. That sounds like a successful product to me!

When I first talked about the watch, before it was available, my wife wasn't interested. As soon as I got mine, and she tried one on at a store she said "I think I could use this". The ones that didn't get one at first wind up seeing how useful they are and then buy. The ones that got one at first and are now unhappy should never have got it to begin with. Who knows what they expected but obviously it wasn't this product. But I haven't met anyone that currently has one and isn't happy.

Putting my marker down for future reference.

It's too clunky. Requires iPhone. Doesn't do anything that a pedometer/fitband can do. And women won't wear this brick on their wrists. They simply won't.
from a previous thread.

"Android Wear as an ENTIRE platform sold ~720,000 units in the ENTIRE fiscal 2014 year. (Worldwide)

Apple watch has allegedly shipped ~3.5 million units in 3 months (US ONLY), at a price of nearly DOUBLE the average android wear device.

Take it as you will.

The product didn't launch to insane sales, neither did the iPad 1 or iPhone 1. This isn't news really, early adopters buy the 1st gen."

Sales cratering? :p Even if the sales figures being reported are anywhere near accurate, which I assure you they aren't, they have done at least $1.5 BILLION in sales. Figuring international sales the figure is probably closer to $2 billion in sales. So your prediction was and is complete and total nonsense, sorry.

Sure it's nothing like Apple's iPhone sales numbers, but nobody in their right mind expected a 1.0 Apple product in essentially a new product category to do iPhone 6 like numbers. By any reasonable measure, the Watch has been a phenomenal success.

I think having the watches available for purchase in the stores has made a significant difference. Since the store launch, I've noticed a number of people wearing watches and carrying Apple Watch shopping bags. Granted, this is anecdotal and I'm also in the bay area, but I think in store purchases have something to do with the down tick in online numbers.

So much wrong in one short sentence. Bad grammar as well. I think you meant "Doesn't do anything a pedometer/fitband can't do."

Agreed ! The day my wife's  Watch arrived, she took off her Garmin Vivofit and has never looked back.

Sadly, there are a group of people who, if they don't attach to a product, feel a compulsion to assume their viewpoint is in-line with everyone else's viewpoint. I see many products I am not interested in having, but am not ignorant enough to believe for a second that those products are not going to be appreciated by many others with different wants, need and attitudes.

My thoughts exactly. It's not even that hard. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Just move on. Clearly the watch (or any product that doesn't do want you want it to do) isn't for you. So be it, there are many other products that may satisfy you. I really don't understand why there are people who buy the newest car e.g. when it's released. But do I need to tell them? Search for articles that agree with me that the newest car is rubbish? Convince the new car lovers that it's useless? Of course not. If it makes them happy then just be happy.

If it makes them happy then just be happy.

That's the issue with these posts and threads. These are unhappy people who try spread their pessimism to others when it comes to something most others like. It really bothers such people that the vast majority of posters on most sites are very happy with the product. They would be unhappy and would loudly express that feeling even if a product that somehow was absolutely perfect in every way possible was released. I have some relatives like that.

Because Android Wear is a complete success...

No one said android wear was a complete success, the point of the topic is that in the category the device was launched (smartwatches) it's come in at over double the asking price of the competition and sold over 5x the amount of devices, all with less possible customers (remember, there are more android phones in circulation than iPhones), in 1/4 of the time.

The watch is absolutely a success and I can assure you the numbers will reach maybe 10-15 million units sold in the year, which is incredibly successful.

Lol, I was being sarcastic about Android Wear. I'm all in favor of Apple Watch's success.
