pre-ordered my 32GB 3Gs today! All morning my sister and I were trying to get ours ordered but finally got through around 2PM. I got mine, I'll pick it up at the store at 7AM sharp! She's having hers delivered because she has to work.

Can you use the original iPhone as a itouch when you remove the phone feature?

Sorry but at 7 AM you will be in a line waiting to get into the Apple Store that Opens at 7 AM. Also, you do realize that you did not really buy the iPhone 3G S yet and there is a big * on the reservation that you made for your iPhone 3G S.

* Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis

Yes, you can keep your existing iPhone as an iPod Touch, just keep the deactivated SIM. You might need it later under certain conditions. You also will not have to pay 9.99 for OS upgrades like a normal iPod Touch owner since your's is really an iPhone.

I just wanted to confirm that I will be able to activate the two family plan phones when they arrive at my home (I'm an existing customer who ordered subsidized upgrades from edge to 3g S)?

And how? Via itunes or calling ATT? Anybody know?

via iTunes.

and to answer your other question, the texting plan should be set as family again if you set it back. the same logic applies - if any order tries to update one line of your family account with a texting plan, the family texting plan will lock it out. worst case, just log onto www.att.com after you activate and check. worst worst case, you have to call ATT cust service.

Thanks, Natasha. So are you saying people with shared texting plans should remove them before we activate our family phones, then go back in to ATT (or call) and add them again after activating, just like we did in the ordering process?

Just to be clear, I ordered two phones, but put our shared texting back on ATT after I ordered. Like you said. :)

no, you should be good now if you added family shared texting back on.

I skimmed through the thread and didn't come across any mention of this (might have missed it), so I'll ask here.

I have a blackjack 2 and both the apple site and att say I qualify for the upgrade. Great, 32gb iphone for $299 + tax.

Here's what I don't know. If I order through apple (seems to be the best way to get a phone on the 19th), will I be able to just throw my sim into the phone or will I have to call apple? I can most likely just change my plan online, so that shouldn't be an issue.

If anyone knows how this works, let me know.

Edit:

Just took the plunge. 32gb white 3gs. :D

They added about $2 more than the tax here. Not sure why. Should have been $326 and change.

The "normal" process is to use the SIM that will ship with the new phone. When you dock it for the first time you will be guided through the process to register that as your phone (number moves to that SIM, etc.) it takes just a minute.

Editing to add that this registration process is through iTunes, so dock it to the computer you'll be synching it with.

I was just logging in to post the same thing.

Arn, this is probably worth throwing on page 2 at a minimum, the delivery date for orders from Apple.com has been the source of major confusion.

Question: I ordered on apple.com for pick up but have not received any confirmation. Now I changed my mind and want it delivered. How do I cancel my reserved phone for pick up?

I think the last thing you want to do is cancel orders and make big changes. You'd be likely to get the phone on the 30th. I ordered mine around 6pm and it took all night before I got confirmation.

Has anyone found out for sure if those of us who removed our shared texting on family plans on ATT(using Natasha's trick) to get through the apple website process, then put them back in on ATT's site... will still have them in place when we activate the new phones?

I removed my text to order on Apple's site. I was worried I would not add it back correctly, so I called and made cust care do it. They hadn't even seen the change. I had her note on the acct that text WAS included, so I didnt get that $800 bill from my wife textaholicing.

synthetic, what do you mean when you say Apple fixed the tax? Did you have a higher tax (like we do in CA - $55 on a $199 phone) and then they lowered it?

And if so, how do I make that happen for me? :)

I have a quick question:
I ordered my new iPhone 3G S a few hours ago, from Apple.com to be delivered to my home, and was wondering if it will come activated, or if I'll need to go to the local Apple Store/ATT to get that done?

Sorry if this has been asked earlier. There are so many questions asked in so many different threads on the new phone, I honestly can't keep up

I believe apple "assumes" what tax you have before you actually make a purchase.

If you look, my original cost in tax was $29.15, then dropped to $25.16. This is not a big drop, just $3.99. Strange to be honest. Just a calculation "error" I believe.

In Louisiana, my tax is 8.75%. Your's is most likely higher. I don't recall what the tax in CA is, but I know its high.

Btw, it took 5 hours from the time I ordered to the conformation email that states my purchase for the 32gb white 3gs.

I hope this helps.

Edit: Ship the phone to another location with a lower tax, then have that person ship it to you. Other than that, no idea.

Nickday89, here's your answer.

I have a quick question here, anybody's help will be highly appreciated!
Thank you.

I am not a existing att customer, while I pre-order 3G S from apple.com and ship to my sister's home, can she later activates the phone by using her own credit card and SSN when she recieve the order?
Will I be charged for monthly att fee if I let my sister activate the phone instead?

or what happen if the phone is not activated within 30 days of arrival?

thank you again.

Katie

How long does it usually take for the confirmation e-mail to come?

I opened a new apple ID for this purchase, and won't really use it (Already have one, but forgot it). I got the Apple ID confirmation e-mail, but not the one where I pre-ordered it.

Oh, I placed the order around 9 PM yesterday night, It is now 8:33 AM.

Got the 32GB White :D

Check your order status online. If everything looks like it's in order there, then you have nothing to worry about, even if you don't have the confirmation email. There's no information in the email that isn't on the order status page.

I ordered mine and it says it will come on the 19th also. I would be pissed if it didn't arrive that day
