Preordering iPhone 3GS on Apple.com

interesting apple experience...
I called as apple store support as it opened this morning because I still hadn't received a confirmation email and some order details were showing wrong (billing address)...I was told my order was still in Tax review (I would hope...FYI I know RI doesn't charge tax on the unsubsidized price of a cell now so my tax should be like 13 something NOT 41)...and I would get an email when it shipped?.. no order confirmation email.. and its clear that CS representatives DO NOT have any official information about when we will get our preorders even though the websites reads order now receive on June 19th... :confused: I think they were a bit overwhelmed yesterday all though I dont get how after two huge launches this has to be smaller...?
 
just did the text trick and it worked flawlessly! just took the text away from att for like 30 seconds while i ordered the phone at apple. once i got the phone in my cart i immediately added back in the texting plan! thanks again everyone!

I'm about to buy one, but your picture shows a problem similar to the one I'm seeing. Please note your tax. $56.89 is 28.56% of the base purchase price, $199!

For me, on my screen, I'm seeing tax of $64.66 on a $299 purchase, which is a bit over 21% tax. Sales tax where I live is NOT 21%, just as I'm sure it's not almost 29% where the person I quoted lives.


What gives?


(Edit: A co-worker suggested that perhaps Apple's charging sales tax based on the UNSUBSIDIZED price of the phones. For where I live, if you look at the percentage of $599 that $64.66 is, it comes out to our sales tax rate. I think Apple may have made a mistake here. Has anyone been charged yet for their order, or does it only get charged when it ships?)

Apple Stores will open early at 7 a.m. on June 19 exclusively for customers who have pre-ordered.

Are we supposed to get some sort of email confirmation? I signed in using my Apple ID and chose which iPhone I wanted along with the store, clicked Continue and got the Thank You screen. Seems like it went through, but I'd like a confirmation email. :/

I received an email confirm.
 
I ordered mine at Magic Mountain on my iPhone. It took over an hour but I finally got through. Drained my battery as well but it was worth it. My recepit from Apple says delivers by June 19th.
 
Preorder

I preordered last night and got the 199 price with pickup at the concierge at the Apple store. I received an email confirmation but when I check my account status I don't see the iPhone in there. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I would call Apple but their wait times are at 1-2 hours right now.
Anyone have an idea?

In CA, MA and RI sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of the iPhone.

Oh there will be a line alright.. I don't get why u just wouldn't get it delivered to your home.. Save your self the douchey feeling of waiting on that line... Trust me i did it last year and it fells pretty douchey :p
 
Strange Confirmation Email

So I ordered the 32gb 3G S online for delivery on the 19th. I bought my original 3G on day 1. I am paying $499 for the new 3G S.

Now the strange part....the order details in my confirmation EMAIL says I was not charged for the phone, but am only paying tax/shipping, which comes to around $60. The original confirmation WEB PAGE said my total was around the $550 mark. I'm trying to figure out if I am only going to pay $60 for this phone.

Has anyone else gotten this in their confirmation emails? I'm curious if this will update closer to the 19th, it just seems odd though that the full price isn't reflected in that email.

Anyone experience the same thing?

I got a confirmation email with a total of $38.xx

However, my card has been pre-auth. for the total - $5xx.
 
Anyone else notice Apple is not guaranteeing them even if you pre-order. There is a little asterick towards the bottom of the page while going through the pre-order info. Does this mean I will have to stand in line? I just figured I could show around 8-9am and have one waiting for me.

Apple rep told me that there is a backlog of up to 6-8 hours for the preorders and reserves on iPhone 3GS. So problem solved!
 
Down for Maintenance

When I try to order now I get a screen telling me it is down for maintenance. Maybe they are going to fix the error with family unlimited texting, etc.
This page is currently down for maintenance.

During that maintenance window when the store was down, they seemed to have fix that issue that many of us were having with text messaging plans inhibiting our ability to order our phones online.

They have corrected that and I was able to purchase mine just now.

My next question is, since they are shipping it to me, do I have to go to an Apple store to have it activated still, or will it already be activated?

bottom of acknowledgement email says "you can activate it via iTunes."

I think that if you pre-ordered (a fancy word for "put on hold") you may still have to wait in line. There are plenty of people who will be down there and picking up their "pre-orders"

Also: I can see why you're not guaranteed a phone. What if you don't show up to get yours? Well they sell it to the next guy in line.

The "pre-ordering" is to speed you through the check-out process once you are at the store. That's all.

It does not actually reserve a phone for you...

I have the same thing......i wonder if they are just gonna charge us for the tax....then charge the rest once they ship it....
 
Anyone know if I preorder a 3GS as a new At&t customer, can I call AT&T and have them apply the Premier plan discount to the monthly charges once I receive and activate it?

The 3GS is not available on the AT&T Premier Site yet or else I would not be asking this question...
