Preorders open when on the 10th...

Would not surprise me if Apple says online ordering would be sometime after the 10th and allowing appointment/walk ins to get priority for pre-orders even though a lot of people ordering will not have an Apple Store within 100 miles.

Since there has been ZERO precedence for this, it would surprise the heck out of me if this happened.

It should surprise you, because nothing like that has ever happened before.

I would expect the following:

1) Pre-order online opens up on April 10th. Certain models will sell out very quickly.

2) There will be stock reserved/set aside for those who get appointments from April 10-23. All those who reserve during an appointment will get their watch on April 24.

3) There will be some stock reserved/set aside that is not purchased. Those will go to people on April 24 for either walk-ins or to shorten their online wait time.

4) I don't think there will be a lot of stock available in-store for April 24 for those who didn't pre-order either online or through in-store appointments. So, I don't think there will be huge lines. Unless there will be huge lines for people waiting to pick up their watch as early as they can?

I bet in-store appointments will book up very quickly after people find out stock sold-out online.

I plan on ordering my watch the moment we are allowed to do so. But I also plan on setting an appointment first thing as well. I wonder if stores will open early for watch appointments on 4/10 or will it be standard operating hours?

Apple says "let's forgo 1M online orders before we wake up so we can help thousands of people try on watches individually in the stores"? Not a chance.

The last time Apple didn't do an online pre-order, the in-store situations were complete chaos. Not coincidentally, that was the last time Steve Jobs was in charge. :)

I hope the preorders are available at midnight because I just found out I'm going to Washington DC that afternoon. I mean I guess I can do it from my phone, but my fear is that preorders will go up while I'm traveling.

I Hope they save enough inventory for people who want to book a appointment to try it on before pre-ordering it as I am going to wait till they open the appointments and book right away and book the first early evening appointment so that I can try it and pre-order mine.

Just to confirm, that no actual watch would be delivered or bought on store until 24th April.

Even if you pre-ordered at 10th, you have 14 days to make up your mind.

Apple can also do "build-per-order" during these 2 weeks so I don't foresee sold-out unless they have limited materials but there is no guarantee that your order will be delivered on 24th. If you choose to buy on store at 24th, stock on store could be limited to certain models - and you have to wait for order if your choice is not available. So what I see is, pre-ordered during these 2 weeks time if possible, or else you have to wait a couple of weeks after 24th.

LoL.... would it surprise you if I told you I have a bridge to sell you?

No, apple would not do this as they'll sell hundreds of thousands of units on pre-orders.

Just booked a trip for April 7-10 to Montreal. Crud!
Forgot about the preorder. Had it all worked out.
I dont think I would be able to pre-order a US watch from .CA internet eh?
Ill guess Ill have to leave my computer at home, remote desktop in and hope the SS with Milanese loop doesnt sell out before I can get my page loaded remotely! :(

Why not just go to the apple.com address instead and pre-order? You can reach other country's addresses from another country.

In what alternate reality was Steve Jobs alive for the iPhone 5s launch? Because the 5s had no preorders, and launched in 2013.

Yes you can. You can access any Apple regional store from any country. Just change the country at the bottom of the main page. You just have to make sure the shipping address is in the same country as the store you're accessing.

So when will stores start taking bookings for in-store appointments?

Oh snap! Never checked that out. usually when you try that with google or whatever, it auto kicks you back to .ca or what have you to avoid various shipping / international sales laws.

Since you're logging into your home account and having the product shipped to your home address it doesn't matter where in the world you actually order from.

Strangely enough you can even check the status of an existing order or preorder from other country stores. For example I live in the UK and any order or preorder I do I can then log into the U.S. site and still see the status of the order or preorder.

I don't know if the usual pre-order times will work with the Apple Watch.

12am PDT on the 10th April would be 6pm on the 10th April in Sydney, Australia. However, the Apple Watches would have already been available for viewing at the Apple Store since 9am (9 hours earlier).

I visited the Apple Store in Sydney and confirmed that the Apple Watch would be available for viewing on the 10th April when the store opened (which would be 3pm on the 9th April in the US). I don't think they would have the watches available for viewing but not have pre-orders open until later in the day.

Here's my understanding of the release time (estimates btw)

PDT - Midnight
CT - 2 AM
That Other Bit Of America (East Coast Maybe?) - 3 AM
UK - 8AM
Australian EST (Where I'm Located) - 5 PM

That sort of makes sense. However the Apple Store in George Street told me that the the Apple Watch would be available for viewing and trying on when the store opened on the 10th (not at 5pm). The assistant even made a point of saying that Australians would be the first in the world to get their hands on the Apple Watch. I appreciate that I need to take that information with a grain of salt

I personally think that online preorders in Australia will begin at 8am on the 10th April (Sydney time), the same time they are available to view in person at Apple stores. I guess that's the perk of living in Australia ;)
