OK, thanks... this is super useful to know!!!!!! So there's hope for me. 😊

But yeah, I'm sorry you won't get your money back. This is anticipated, as the prescription is unique to you. If you're in luck, somebody has approximately your prescription and reads this.

BTW, why did you change your mind about the VP?
Ok, I just called Apple. Apparently you can return them and the return section of orders is conflicting to the actual policy and no one knows why! Ha! Apple official return policy says you can return them just not to the store.

But yeah- I was no issue when I ordered. What was your RX? Be funny if these were it.

For not keeping the VP- I don’t know, after watching some real world reviews it seems like it would only be useful to my workflow for 1 or 2 things and I’m not sure the cost is worth just those few niche uses and a movie or two. I mean- $4000 is a nice vacation or a home improvement or pay down on car loan. I’m not sure I’m rich enough to spend that on something that amounts to being a toy- especially when there are funner toys out there (a kayak maybe? Or maybe another mountain bike, even a used 4wheeler possibly).

OK, I'm glad you can return them after all!!

I'm right now on a call with Apple... the Apple rep just asked me when you placed your prescription insert order. Would you mind sharing the date? --- Seems this may help them to investigate what's been going wrong for people like me.

Also, I hear you regarding the price of the Vision Pro. I grew up having no money at all, but I got lucky to be at a stage in life where I can splurge on occasion. Having said this, I agree, it's a lot of money.

BTW, I'm skeptical about the "real world reviews" because it's usually the most negative people who are most likely to write reviews. I read several of them, and I guess what they really say is that for the extemely high price they were expecting a 110% wow factor, not 95%. And that's completely fair.

I ordered the moment they became available for pre order- so the morning of the 19th of January. Maybe it’s some other feature of the RX? Here’s what I sent them:

OK, thank you so much! So helpful. I don't think it's something specific about my prescription, which is +1.00 and +2.25.

I've been on the phone for more than an hour now. Talking to a Zeiss rep who claimed that they're not making prescription reading inserts. I told him that I found one person who got such prescription reading inserts and that what he says contradicts the Apple preordering system and the Zeiss website. Let's see...

I was on the call with Apple and Zeiss for 2 hours and 20 minutes 😬. Apple was trying to be helpful. In the end they connected me to a Zeiss rep, which was not helpful. The Zeiss person told me they're not making prescription reading inserts. 🙄 I told him that he was wrong and that Zeiss made such inserts for at least one person.

The whole thing is highly bizarre, I won't call it Kafkaesque because ultimately, do I really need a Vision Pro?

At least Apple sent me an email with instructions on how to leave written feedback, so maybe someone who's in charge can sort out the details with Zeiss. At this stage I'll just wait and see; maybe make a demo appointment at a local Apple Store.

So I wear prescription reading lenses around 1.75 + , I also occasionally wear very mild long distance glassed .25 plus,
I almost never wear my long distance glasses as I barely need them. I can't read anything without my reading glasses. So I submitted my reading glass prescription which was rejected and a call with Zeiss said they do not make reading glass prescriptions. So I bougtht the 1.75 apple/zeiss reading glasses. Also submitted, bought and received my "long distance glasses" inserts. so the weird thing is whether I use the reading inserts, the long distance prescription inserts or no inserts I can't see any difference in clarity? Love to hear what others have found?

OK, so do we have an official link to Apples effective focal distance? This is critical for users that have intra ocular lens replacement surgery, common for those with extremely high prescriptions, or more commonly cataract surgery.

is there at least one of your eyes that has a + sign in front the SPH (sphere) value, such as +1.50 ?

Yes.

I don't understand why you say "prescription reading inserts". There are Zeiss Readers and Zeiss Prescription. The former are for those who just need the same magnification for each eye and can buy reading glasses at a store. The latter are also "reading glasses", but they allow for custom configurations that aren't available in simple reader glasses.

I pick up my device today so I'll have a better idea how the prescription version works for me.

Hi all picked up my VP yesterday and waiting for my inserts which are being delivered to home. Was meant to be tomorrow but there is no update since the 3rd where it said it departed the facility in china.
Question is this how many days after they departed china did you receive your inserts.
It’s killing me having the VP but I can’t use it 😂

i picked up the AVP on saturday and am waiting for my lenses as well. mine should be here today, coming from china.

its possible they are already in the US but they were not scanned. i had this happen on my launch day 15 pro max -- it last showed at china, skipped alaska and the next scan i got was when it showed up in Ky. so i say yours may still make it on time. I was surpsied this morning here in LA that my lenses landed safely in LAX, with all the rain weather we are getting right now.

Please look at my prior posts on this page as this seems to be a confusing topic. Yes, for people with presbyopia, i.e. when you have difficulties focusing on nearby things, the "readers" and the "prescription" inserts are intended to do the same thing. The readers work for ranges, like +0.75 to +1.25. The prescription inserts are meant to provide the exact adjustment needed, as determined by your optometrist. And also, the readers only come in packs with the same range for the left and right eyes, whereas the prescription inserts can be customized to your exact prescription.

The completely insane problem however is that right now Apple allows to order prescription reading inserts, but Zeiss rejects the orders and says we're not making them!!! I have some very long posts on this above.

I know my posts are long but I posted on this issue. Still to be resolved... Apple thinks that Zeiss makes prescription reading inserts, the Zeiss people think they don't. Big management failure. I hope it will be resolved.

I just got back from the Apple store in Knoxville. They were very helpful in setting me up with the right strength of the Zeiss reader inserts. I had preordered the weaker 0.75-1.25 strength, and then 1.5-1.75 strength as a separate preorder but neither felt right. They gave me a demo with the stronger 2.0-2.75 inserts and that felt really good.

They even took back the two weaker inserts kits I had bought and gave me a refund for both.

So I ordered my ZEISS prescription lenses last Thurs, got them today. Inserted them and all setup went fine.

I have -2.00 on right eye and +1.25 on left. The code scan registers in AVP that way. However left is super blurry, almost in a pixelated way. Right is crystal clear. I tried to just remove the left lens but AVP won’t let you run with just one lens.

Seems to me the AVP cannot currently handle a different prescription in each eye. It’s trying to apply the right eye prescription to the left eye.

Bummer. Hopefully will be fixed with an update.

Prescription RX of same type (meaning different left/right eye RX) work fine in Quest Pro, Quest 3, XReal Air 2 Pro and others.

If you hold the left lens by itself up to your eye, is it still blurry?

Nope I tried that to see if ZEISS made them incorrectly. Each lens matches my RX glasses just fines. It’s the AVP…it’s trying to “compensate” I’m guessing and their software doesn’t recognize a different prescription strength per eye.

Do they show up in Settings/Eyes & Hands as the correct rx numbers in your Vision Pro? It should have an actual readout of what it thinks your prescription is. Could be an issue with the QR code either way. They definitely an accommodate differing rx in each eye, that's a really common scenario.

Just did, thx for link.

I receive the developer USB-C dongle tomorrow. Gonna play around with it and see if maybe there’s a setting to override the lens settings per eye.

Please let us know if you are successful.

I just finally received my Zeiss lenses. Man, these things are an absolute game changer. It was easy to install since they were magnetic, and it was weird having to actually pair of them with the Vision Pro. Everything is so sharp. And no more having to deal with my eyes getting irritated from wearing my contacts too long. Definitely better than any third-party solution that I have tried with the meta-quest and the X real glasses.

Yes, and if i remove one the correct values show up telling me to put it back in so i can enjoy the blurry screen lol.

I suspect Apple didnt consider a use case for two different lens prescriptions. Oversight by a young engineer most likely as its not that unusual in the over 50 crowd. My hope though is that its a software update fix as clearly the AVP registers i have two different RX strengths….its just not applying them independently, but rather applying the right one to both.

If Im wrong and its a hardware limitation, then they just lost a portion of the targeted customer base.

Many people don't have the exact same prescription in each eye. One would think that someone at Apple must have thought about this, given that there's an option to order prescription inserts.

Also, interesting that you got your -2.00 / +1.25 prescription fulfilled by Zeiss. Your left eye prescription (the one with the plus sign) corrects near/reading vision. My issue is that Zeiss declined to make +1.00 / +2.25 prescription inserts; two Zeiss representatives told me on the phone that they make distance prescription inserts but not reading prescription inserts. This contradicts what Apple offers on their site, and you were apparently able to order a reading prescription insert for your left eye (although it's not correctly recognized by the Vision Pro). I'm still fighting an uphill battle making someone higher up at Apple aware of the issue.
