I have been using progressive glasses for the past three years but selected “For seeing things far away“ instead of “For seeing up close and far away“ on the questionnaire for ZIESS optical inserts. Is this going to create any problems with the optical insert?

It is possible that the handful of companies that provide insert lenses for the Meta Quest will make them for the Vision Pro at a somewhat reduced price. Regular on-line prescription lens companies won't. At least not for years.
A signature is required on prescriptions by law. Mine has gone all digital/electronic too, but there is still a signature on it. I would be asking your eye doctor why there isn’t one. Or perhaps what you’re looking at is just your information and not an actual prescription.

My Apple Card got hit with the monthly installments even before it has shipped !

I purchased the Apple Vision Pro at full price and will pick it up on Feb 2. Once the price of the AVP hits my card and is no longer Pending, I will call an Apple Card Specialist to convert it into monthly installments. I have a problem making a purchase using monthly installments using my Apple Store app on the iPhone and iPad.

Well that is quite helpful! Thanks for the link. Told me definitively that my prescription is out of range.
I'm not 100% sure why they won't take my prescription since they claim they can do up to -11 and I'm at -9.75. I bumped it down to -7.75 in the checker, changing nothing else, and it took that.
I'll work with my eye doctor; maybe there's something they can prescribe that will fall within that range since it's not like this will be used for anything outside the Vision Pro. And clearly there's something about eye prescriptions that I don't understand when it translates into actually cutting lenses.
Anyway, that link is helpful so I can work with whatever my doctor can give me to see if it would work to get the inserts. Thanks again.

I spoke with support a bit about this. It seems like the light seal that Apple recommends after the face ID scan differs by about +4 if you select that you need Zeiss lenses vs what it gives you if you select "no glasses/no contacts/no vision issues.
I consistently scan in at 21W if I configure an AVP with no Zeiss lenses in the order.
I consistently scan in at 25W if I configure an AVP with prescription Zeiss lenses.
I'm assuming those numbers are essentially millimeters of depth to the light seal, but that's pure speculation. Adding 4mm eye-to-optic distance seems to make sense to account for the slight added thickness of the Zeiss lens insert.
I'm going to also ask if I can try the 21W (or if there's one in between 21 and 25) with Zeiss inserts while at my pickup appointment. I'm concerned about losing any bit of FOV and want to push the boundaries a little on how close my eye sits. If the Zeiss insert meaningfully reduces FOV in a noticeable way, I'll probably go as far as getting fitted for contact lenses so I can reclaim that lost FOV.
At least on the Quest 3, the Zenni lenses don't seem to reduce FOV, but I'm not at the whim of a fixed light seal. With my eyes as close as I can get them to the lens insert without touching, I can see the edges of the inner displays in my peripheral which means I'm seeing the maximum FOV offered by the hardware.
Very sound logic - makes perfect sense.
It will be very interesting to hear people's experience regarding how the FoV changes with/without the inserts.

I used the AVP as motivation to get a prescription and don't have any glasses yet either. I have some 2013 reading glasses that I wear like twice a year.
Instead of folksy questions like "Do you wear glasses?" etc. when ordering, they should have an option to just use the data from the prescription. (I won't be picking it up from the Apple Store anyway because the disappearing slots messed up my payment repeatedly.)
Date of birth was required? I uploaded my prescription and it doesn’t have my DOB. Was approved without issue.
Mine is coming with 23W+lenses. On subsequent remeasures I have been getting 21W without and 25W with lenses. My prescription is pretty mild and I wanted to try with and without, so I guess I’m glad I happened to get the in between one?

I assume that at the some point the lenses will become too thick. This can be avoided by using a higher refracting glass. But this in return leads to a much higher price which makes things more complicated for Apple.
I am basing this assumption on the specifications of my glasses, which are also made by Zeiss: If I want to keep them thin I have to spent 2 or 3 time more money for the glass: 2 x 255 € = 510 € for two lenses.

I just checked and my brand new prescription is exactly the same as my old prescription, so my glasses should work well at pickup on the 2nd.

Probably RFID tags in the rims to lock in exclusivity for Zeiss. That's the world we live in.
