Anyone have a phone number to call Zeiss? I keep uploading the prescription and they keep sending me messages they can’t read it.
There is no way to be connected other than going through Apple customer service. I ended up in a Miami area customer service center for Zeiss. Oddly enough the CS agent did not have access to see my uploaded prescription.

My guess is that this is a HIPAA issue. Additionally, the CS agents might be part of a different company that is contracted by Zeiss.

After days of back and forth with Zeiss (who don’t respond to questions), my prescription was approved with delivery shown as “By February 12”. As others have noted here, the “Do you wear eyeglasses “ question is too vague. I have prescription reading glasses (not the Walgreen’s readers) but that is not what Zeiss wants/needs. Just about ready to bag it, I found and printed off the paragraph on what Zeiss wants in a prescription:Full Manifest Refraction (huh?). Went back to the Optometrist and they could juggle the data into the format Zeiss wanted, my DOB and all the rest. She (the doctor) had to edit the prescription printing file format and then we were good. Zeiss may manufacture high end quality optics (I have one of their spotting scopes) but explaining precisely what they wanted up front for the AVP and general customer service-not so good.

I initially had no intentions of ordering lenses as I switch between contacts and glasses 50/50. But eventually the appeal of easily using the VP without the added step of putting in my contacts made sense. $150 is on the reasonable side. I was suggested a different sized light seal when I ordered them separately, but Im hoping the one I was assigned at check out (for contacts) will work just fine as I really don't want to spend $200 for another light seal.

I switch between glasses and contacts, probably 40/60. I ordered VP stating I wear contacts. A few days later decided to order the Zeiss lenses for convenience. Unfortunately, it recommended a different size light seal for the lenses 21W vs 25W. I opted not to order the additional light seal and see how the original works with lenses as well. Anyone else decide not to buy the suggested additional light seal for lenses?

I’m pretty certain Apple will let you swap out the light seal within 14 days. Technically, you could just return the whole thing and get one with the right light seal, but I cannot see them asking you to do that.

Having to use a different seal with inserts appears to be standard. It's unclear why, but people are guessing that the thickness of the inserts requires a different seal. Or perhaps your eyes need to be within a certain optical distance.
It might be common, but not always the case. I was recommended the same size regardless of whether I stated I wanted lenses. I even double checked today by starting the checkout process both ways and might recommended size was the same. Weird.

Anyone showing a null date for delivery? My prescription was verified a while ago.

Not for the lenses. My AVP order is showing a null date, though.

Edit: not any more. My delivery date has reset back to the original.

Well it looks like no way to skip the pairing codes for optical lenses so I won’t be able to use my metaquest2 lenses with it. And I can’t get them for zeiss, so it looks like Apple doesn’t want my $4800 after my 10 testing period

The AVP relies on a highly accurate eye tracking system and Apple probably doesn't want to risk bad press from prism users claiming the eye tracking sucks because there's a warpy piece of glass in between the eye tracking system and eye. It's unfortunate but this is why the pairing codes exist (to calibrate the eye tracking system against the new distortions it has to deal with on the attached lens) and certain strong / unique RX values put it outside what it can reasonably correct for and still work properly. Same reason they aren't allowing just anyone to make lenses for this. They want to control what goes in between their star UI navigation tech and the user's eye or else the experience can suffer.

I would voice your concern to them but at this point, it's a real hardware limitation. If this were me, I'd be trying to work with an optometrist to see if there were a lesser prescription they'd be comfortable giving me that would put me within the tolerances of AVP and allow me to see it clearly enough to enjoy the product. I'd bounce between optometrists until I got one willing to play ball, but probably best to do this after AVP is in consumer hands.

I have a lazy right eye, but with lenses on the ps5 I successfully set up eye tracking and it worked for me too so not sure why they are being so anal about it. Also even on the Apple sight it said you could compensate with other gestures using their special needs section

My younger brother lost his eye when we were kids in a BB gun accident. Does anyone know how the VP would (or if it could) handle someone who wears a glass eye?

What a great question. And it speaks to accessibility issues of technology. If you find out please update us.

I'll share what I can find. I'm picking up 2 VP's. One on feb 2, and the other Feb 3. My brother's birthday falls on the 7th, and if this thing could work for him I would love to send him one to try. He may end up being my source, and I'll report back with what he says. There are still so many questions to be answered about VP.

There are accessibility features that turn off eye tracking and allow you to interact with your head, wrist or index finger in addition to mouse or trackpad controls. I’ve linked to a macrumors article from last June that details it.

In my experience, Apple usually thinks through many different use cases for people that have a wide range of different use cases. A lot of times the accessibility features make interaction easier for way more people than those that NEED them to use their devices.

I feel like this is missing the ability for eye tracking to ignore one eye and focus on another for input. Though based on the sensor placement I bet they’re relying on both to get an accurate positioning when the eye is looking quite far off center.

Then why can’t I bypass the custom insert setup and use those

You can, you just don't tell the headset about whatever you're sticking in there. Not gonna be a great experience though. I'd still go the route of trying to get a middle ground rx that lets you use the headset and isnt outside the boundaries of compatibility.

Since we will need the lenses to use the AVP properly, are we expecting them to be delivered before 2/2? Would suck to pick up at 8am and not be able to actually use the device until the lenses are delivered later.

Your lat statement is so true. I hope the VP works for your brother.

They won't be delivered before 2/2. Apple doesn't do that with their launches. If it was delivered, it was a mistake.

This is unfortunately the reality for launch day/week. Mine say "Delivers Feb 2", were ordered within 2 minutes of the preorders opening (and verified by 2pm) but have not shipped yet. They'll probably be delivered by 9pm whereas my AVP appointment is at 8am. Add to that a snow storm in the forecast Thurs-Sat and living up a mountain I could be a good bit of time before I have my rx lenses.

I'm a little bummed they didn't figure out how to stock common RX values in-store. JINS does this - you can walk in with a prescription and they'll prepare glasses for you within 30 minutes. They have a wall full of lenses in little drawers.

Maybe they will at least let us use the in-store sets when trying it on. Hopefully we can also change the lens delivery to pick up at the distribution center once shipped.

So it looks like I may have a US trip coming up, but naturally I do not have a prescription from a US optician.

Can anyone advise on how challenging would it be for a tourist to get a prescription that Apple would accept for a Vision Pro order that included the Zenith optical inserts?

(Here in Thailand even as a tourist you can walk into an opticians and have a free eye test, but I rather suspect it is not that simple in the States!)
