I'll head over to the numerous auto plants in my area to see how that's working out for those union workers. Wait, those have all shuttered and have been demolished.
From here in the UK it seems strange that Americans hold billionaires in such high regard. Seriously, rich people only get that way by exploiting poor people.

Your auto plants went out of business for the same reasons that BlackBerry and Nokia did. They made bad products, they got lazy and stopped innovating.

Thank God we have a kind hearted adult in the WH

inflation is eating us all alive, and gas prices, and the economy crumbling before our eyes, but Thank God for no more mean tweets!

I wish Biden would worry less about political grabs of attention and worry about inflation and price of goods.
That’s all he’s good at … if the current state of the country is any indication. So at least he has that going for him. Wish he’d actually do things that matter instead of trying to seem cool … like that epically cringe-inducing Despacito moment.

More money for workers and less money for trillion-dollar companies is always a good thing.
Those trillion dollar companies were once single-dollar companies that worked really, really hard to get to where they are today.

Success and hard work are not negative attributes. They're positive. And instead of whining about what we don't have or punishing those that did well for themselves simply because they have more than us, we should all aspire to be in their position. And failing that, at least achieving our own vision of what success is.

U.S. President Joe Biden this morning said that he was "proud" of Apple employees in Maryland who voted to unionize over the weekend, reports Reuters. Though other Apple retail locations have been discussing unionization, the Maryland employees are the first Apple retail workers to unionize in the United States.

"Workers have a right to determine under what condition they are going to work or not work," Biden told reporters. He went on to say that "everyone is better off, including the final product is better off," in reference to the unionization.

Over 100 employees at the Apple Store in Towson, Maryland participated in a unionization vote, which took place from last Wednesday to last Saturday. 65 employees voted to join the Machinists Union, while 33 voted against joining. The National Labor Relations Board will need to verify the votes, a process that might take around a week, and then Apple will begin negotiations with the union.

The Maryland Apple Store employees are aiming for improved pay and working conditions. "The decision to form a union is about us as workers gaining access to rights that we do not currently have," Towson organizers said in a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Apple has opposed unionization efforts, but the Maryland store's unionization vote could encourage other stores that have been discussing unionization to proceed. Back in May, Apple's head of retail Deirdre O'Brien aimed to thwart employee unionization efforts through a video that was sent out to retail stores.

O'Brien said that a union would make it more difficult for Apple to implement "immediate, widespread changes," and it could "make it harder for [Apple] to act swiftly to address things" that employees bring up.

Amid the unionization efforts, Apple said that it would improve working conditions for retail employees. Apple plans to make sure that there are at least 12 hours between each shift an employee must take on, up from the current 10 hour minimum. Employees will not have to work past 8:00 p.m. for more than three days a week unless they choose to work late shifts, and they will no longer be scheduled to work more than five days in a row except during holidays and major product launches.

Apple in February also bumped up the number of available paid sick days, began offering more vacation days, and upped parental leave time. Apple retail locations in Washington State, New York, and Atlanta have also taken steps toward unionization, with employees asking for higher pay, better retirement options, and more vacation time.

This will end up in one of two ways. All the Maryland Apple Stores become Apple 1. vending machines, or 2. DMVs.

Yeah … I mean … Apple started out of a garage. So did Amazon.

Not against unions, though I do think in many cases they are no longer necessary or needed with current labour laws. I wonder how long it will be before Apple prices increase to go along with the wage increases and other benefits the unions will start fighting for.
Given the widening disparity of wages and quality of life everywhere, I don't see how you can say this.

Biden would rather give billions to another country (so that countries elite can launder it) than help Americans through inflation.

No surprise that Biden, who is owned by unions, is in support of this

You can thank Republicans and their incestuous relationship with the corporate state for that.

You can blame them for stubbing your toe too

House.
Senate.
WH.
All Democrat controlled. All of them !

Lots of people are seeing through the excuses for this complete failure of an administration. But a D next to their name makes you defend at any cost literally any cost name your price!

Agreed. Burger employees earn a living wage here in Switzerland. Kiosks came here before the US had them.

Number of personnel appears same.

An gain for store owners is most payment is cashless so the downsides, inefficiencies and costs of handling cash are significantly reduced.
It's only a livable wage because you're in frigging Switzerland.

👍 I'm almost happy this admin had a chance to happen, so that so many people can see that D is not the answer to anything.

At this juncture, the democrats have essentially just existed for 50 years as a vent for the unpopularity of the things the centrist consensus wants to enact or persist. The Dems are meant to win when things go bad then tell everyone they hear and see them yet do little or nothing (and whatever they do is probably dumb, bad, or insufficient).

I know that, I'm specifically asking about these Apple employees.
Vacation days is one example. I read that at Apple you have to work three years before you can take your first vacation and then it's only 1-2 paid weeks? Here in Sweden you have five weeks paid vacation after one year and after certain age like 40 at some places like my former work you get 6 weeks.

I know that deep down, if you really think about it ... and especially considering that Democrats literally have majority rule over everything and all vote the same ... that you don't truly believe the nonsense you just typed onto your screen. And you can't honestly think that Democrats don't love the millions and billions and trillions of dollars they get from the "corporate state." Or illegal insider trading, which Nancy Pelosi seems to love. Open your eyes. Seriously. This divisive nonsense is ridiculous. You have to be living on another planet not to see the corruption going on. Both sides are corrupt but it's even worse that you aren't seeing the corruption with Democrats because they're not even hiding it anymore. In fact, they're literally bragging about it. You're purposely being obtuse at this point if you're looking the other way. I mean Biden literally, on his first day in office, shut down the keystone pipeline. And every waking moment since that day he has made every effort possible to force us to rely on foreign oil again ... when we were energy independent for the first time in a very, very long time. Because apparently foreign oil is more green friendly than domestic oil. And he blames literally everything on Putin ... and his staff members ... and pretty much everyone but himself. And I'm finding it hard to blame even Biden at this point because he doesn't know where he is half the time. And sometimes he doesn't even know he's President. It's terrifying. Even Democrats are seeing the corruption going on, so you should be able to as well. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but it sometimes really feels like the government is trying to run us into the ground on purpose.

They’re so arrogant that they think saying things are good means things are good. A few are still holding out and loving the gaslighting but the rest of us are left wondering are we better off now than we were even a year and a half ago? It doesn’t seem so…

But things are great! Pull the veil over your eyes and OBEY

These are retroactive Putin prices. We’re still coming off a pandemic. The republicans are getting in our way! The ultra MAGA lurks around the corner. Big grocers are taking advantage and big meat and big small business and big oil - they just entered the gas selling business this year if you would believe that!

Sci fi times we live in

Dude, the prices are going to go up regardless. Apple has around $202 billion, yes, billion, in the bank. We know whey are not spending it on decent developers.

Maybe defunding the police will help. Then we can all just walk in to CVS and take what we want without paying.
It would certainly help with groceries and other things that nobody can afford right now. But I guess some of us have those pesky moral compasses getting in the way.

They are certainly showing their immense incompetence in governing the country. And their immense fascination with ignoring the Constitution.

Really? We are expected to work like dogs for little. I find it strange how so many working people are always on the corporations side, instead of the workers side (getting a fair wage and benefits).
