Since when is the iPhone (or Apple in general) about things that people need? If I'm spending upwards of $2000/yr for a phone I want it to be able to play any song that I own.

Also while I'm not going to listen to all 50gb, I don't tend to know ahead of time which songs I'm going to want to listen to ahead of time.

$2k a year?

How do you do that? I am currently under $1K a year for my iPhone service....

I wish for an outright and unlock unit

What do you think the new price will be for the NEW iPhone 4G/HD/G4, whatever you want to call it. This will be for eligible upgrades only!

Higher? Lower? than the current pricing?

I think I would prefer if there is a choice outright and unlock iPhone. I rather buy unlock unit than contract base. Probably at usd599 to start with is ok for me

I originally thought that it would be the same as the two previous generations (3G & 3GS) but in recent weeks with the finding of the prototype and the features of OS 4.0 I am leaning to a bump up in price.

The odds of you actually LISTENING to ALL 50GB of music? Do you REALLY need to have 50GB of music all on your phone at one fell swoop?

I never understood this argument. What made the iPod revolutionary was that we no longer had to decide in advance what music we would want to listen to because we could carry our entire library with us and always have access to it. Why should we not hope to be able to do the same on our iPhones?

To be clear, my music library would easily fit on a 16 GB iPhone, but I do not think those with larger libraries are silly to hope for a higher capacity iPhone.

I'm with you there. I'm still under $2k/year, with two iPhones AND a feature phone, taxes and other governmental BS included.

Well he would need to spending 166.67 a month for service and looking at current pricing it would only be 119 a month for unlimited minutes, text and data for one phone. so unless he has a lot of minutes and multiple phones the math doesn't add up

I don't think it's silly - I am just in awe really. Fifty gigs is a LOT of music. This is coming from someone that has maybe 50 songs on his iPhone 3GS 32gb. Lol. I never even come close to filling the thing up. I love music, I just never really loaded up my phone I guess.

Again, no negativity intended. :)

The 16GB 3GS will be 99$ and the 32GB 4G Will be 199 and the 64GB for 299, it can't be cheaper, i was even thinking of a raise if it's really really awesome

$5000 dollars, a broken door, and confiscation of multiple devices from your home by the police.

I have 50gb of music. They need to start making 120gb iPhones for ppl with tons of music and want room for vids, apps etc
I guess this year the 128GB iPod Touch will be out, so maybe next year, (the iPod Touch has 2 Memory chips in it and the iPhone just one so you need to wait for bigger Memories, however 128GB one is an SSD aready lol)

Yes! Sometimes you want "That song" and you'll want to throw your phone out of your window because you don't have it

First i had a 8GB iPod Touch and upgraded to a 32GB 3GS "Just to make sure i won't lack space" and now i have 10GB of Music another 10GB of Audio + Video Podcast and 2GB of Apps, a 16GB one wouldn't be enough and I'd gladly buy a 64GB one if available

and if i ever get an iPad it would be the 64GB and that's why i don't get one (too expansive :D)

iphone drop in price

ok, so assume when the new iphone comes out there will be a 32 gb model and a 64 gb model, how would they drop the price of the 3gs and wat do u think the new price of the iphone will be? i was thinking

16 gb 3gs $100
32 gb 3gs $200

32 gb 4g $200
64 gb 4g $300

but this doesnt make sense bc who would buy a 32 gb 3gs when they can buy a 32 gb 4g for the same price. Opinions???

The 32gb 3GS will be dumped, just like the 16gb 3G was. The 16gb 3GS will cost $99 subsidized, and the new iPhone will take the place of the current models, while the 3G will be removed altogether. Of course I don't know, but it seems most logical as that's what happened last time round.

Instead try:

16 gb 3gs $99
32 gb 3gs $199 (discontinued, but available until stocks are depleted)

16 gb 4g $199
32 gb 4g $299
64 gb 4g $399 (should one be available -- which seems unlikely)

I see the 32 GB 3GS being $149.

Where is anyone getting the notion they'll have a 64 GB G4?

I can see that, just until the stock is depleted. They won't make new ones at that price.

I don't think a 64 GB HD will be released, and meant to have indicated that. If there is one, however, I think the price will be $399. Apple won't make it unless they can reach that price point.

16 gb 3gs $100

16 gb 4g $200
32 gb 4g $300

I really think we will see the above.... I would be very happy if they made a 64gb iPhone, but I think that since some of the leaked iPhones have only 16gb, it killed the chances of 64gb. I cant see them making the phone in 3 capacities all at the same time as selling the 3gs also.

What makes us so sure they will continue making the 3gs? I know it's cheaper for them to make the 3gs but it looks so very different than the new phone.

Though apple has sold two generations of the iPod shuffle at the same time before also, so you never know.

It might be a small possibility that the new 16gb iPhone will replace th 16gb 3gs.

16 gb 4g $100
32 gb 4g $200
64 gb 4g $300

there has to be bc there is a 64 gb ipod touch and apple wouldnt release anything with less than that, plus with the new folders in os 4 u can support up to 2160 apps which u would need more memory to fit all of them

As has been said hundreds of times, the iPod Touch uses two flash memory chips, while the iPhone has room for only one. Apple can only make a 64 GB iPhone if they can get 64 GB memory chips cheaply enough and in sufficient quantities. Whether they would like to offer a 64 GB iPhone or not is really irrelevant.

4g price for germany

I guess it'll be around € 349 with a mid value contract from the pink giant, who is unfortunately the one and only retailer in germany for the next generation iphone ...

Not going to happen. Apple makes a music player with 160GB of storage, and, I'd say, someone with 50GB+ that they WANT on their device would need to look for a separate device.

Apple will increase storage in line with what is technically possible (chip sizes, space, etc.), not with what people want. The iPhone is designed primarily to call people and to access interwebs, the iPod functionality is nice, but an extra, rather than a central focus.

This was shown when, 3 months after the 3GS has a top limit of 32GB, the new touch comes out with a top limit of 64GB. That was the maximum that could be reasonably fitted in, and in a device where playing music is a central feature.

WRT to the original topic, I'd like to think that the new phones will slot into the current brackets, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a few bumps in the prices. Nothing significant, just enough for Apple to say "Looky here! New stuff! Buy, Buy, Buy!".
