Am I the only one wondering if they will make the Air even thinner?

Obviously they can't go too thin because of the USB ports, but they could match the thickest point to the rMPB. Or maybe they could even beat the Razer Blade Pro's 0.66 inches for the thickest point. There are other ultra books that do it.

Rather than go retina and eat into the Pro's market the airs selling point should be portability for a relatively reasonable price.

Announced new rMBP lineup with 5200 Haswell chips to be released Aug/Sep when they become available, storage capacity bumped a level on each model, maybe RAM

No way: the Iris Pro chips suitable for the 15" rMBP (47W max. TDP) are only 2,3 and 2,4GHZ. I don't see Apple lowering the CPU speed just because of a non-revolutionary integrated graphic chip that is not even a substitute to a dGPU like the current GT650M

Must admit I've been waiting to order a rMBP 15 for three months now (my first Mac) so will feel a little disappointed if no Haswell one is signposted next week.

Exactly the same story here! I'm really excited to get my hands on my first Mac and I've decided to go for a 15" rMBP but decided to wait for Haswell. I think they will be announced on Monday at WWDC but it'll be like the 27" iMacs, they won't be available for a few months. That's fine with me though because it means I can save a bit more money and get some higher upgrades. I.e. 16GB RAM which I wasn't originally going to get but could be a good idea for future proofing. Overall, can't wait for WWDC bring it on!

MacRumors, it's your mission to find out how much the Haswell rMBPs will cost and when we'll be able to order them. K GO!

I'm deeply considering getting a Haswell MBA when they come out. The one thing that'll keep me from doing so is if the new rev is still using the 1366x768 - 1440x900 screens. I'm not expecting retina quality displays on the Air yet, but keeping things the same as they are now would be an almost tragic lack of effort on Apple's part. Not when even the lower end "crap PC junk" ultrabooks give us 1920x1080 these days.

Fully agree. Something has to happen on the displays of the MBA's. Not necessarily ”Retina” displays, but at least an improvement is needed this generation.

Lots of anger and hyperbole in this thread.

We still don't know what Apple is actually going to release on Monday.

Some other manufacturers have met or maybe even beaten Macs on specs but that's never what Apple has been about. The current MBA's and MBP's are miles better than anything out there no matter what the specs are. Just try using an Asus, HP, Dell, etc. all day. No thanks.

I want a 13" rMBP at WWDC but if I have to wait two or three more months until Apple can release a proper upgrade than so be it. Apple is dependent on Intel after all.

There are probably going to be more rumors before WWDC that will get hopes up and then dash them again. Wait until Monday.

The MacBook Pro Retina will include the Iris Pro 5200 graphics which will ship in Q3 2013. It has been launched but won't be available till then, according to Intels website.

Secondly, the low display yield rates indicate Apple is going to switch to IGZO panels in the upcoming refresh. The production of these panels just startet, therefore the supply is not really high enough for a new rMBP just yet.

Combining the new display tech and the new Haswell chips, Apple will be able to reduce the power requirements and the heat substantially, resulting in the ability to make the body of the machine even slimmer.

BTW, which processor models are supposed to ship with Iris Pro 5200, in Q3, that could be used in the rMBP?

What is stopping Apple from making a retina MBA? I know Dell, Sony Vaio and many others have 11" laptops with "retina" displays. With Haswell the hardware and battery should suffice, no?

Maybe... but why everyone want retina? Retina is awesome, but on MacBook air is more important battery life and price. Airs are the new "white" macbooks, they need to stay relative cheap. retina costs a lot.

Airs already have a very good resolution and 99% of users doesn't need retina at all on these models.

Just my 2 cents.

Hopefully Time Capsule gets a nice little redesign besides the boosted wireless standard, else I've been waiting for nothing.

Nice to see some MACrumors again the last couple of days though :)

Exactly. Already there isn't a whole lot of difference between the 13" Air and MBP. The latter has a few more ports, slightly faster processor (measuring in real work benchmarks, not theoretical ones) and a better screen. Apple has to make some major distinction between the two, especially if the next 13" MBP is going to get thinner and lighter thanks to Haswell, and the processor and screen are the easiest ways to keep cost lower.

The processors inside the MBA are not cheaper than the ones inside the 13" rMBP. They're slower, but they also have a lower TDP. The processors inside the MBA are ULV processors, while the 13" rMBP uses standard-voltage processors. They're about the same price.

Is Apple trying to kill the 13" rMBP here? Sales are not stellar, as the average user (the typical moron) usually prefers the slimmer frame and the lower price of the 13" MBA, and hardly notices the retina display. Now, with a better processor, a better integrated video card and more battery life, and selling for a lower price, the 13" MBA will just kill the 13" rMBP.

That is true. I have been hoping for 'retina displays' on the MBAs but it looks like that may be hoping for too much at this point.

However, I think it would be embarrassing for Apple to not upgrade the quality of the screens in some way (even if only to IPS). They screens haven't changed in almost three years and the competition is now ahead of them.

I swore that I would wait for a 'retina screen' version of the MBA to upgrade but, if the resolution is increased or if they go to an IPS display, I would be very tempted to upgrade. The thought that they might go retina next year lingers and might make me tempted to wait.

why don't go for a 13" rMBP.
i really don't see a problem of lifting a laptop that is slightly thicker by couple mm and 300 grams heavier?

I get tired of people deciding for me that I "don't need retina" or that it is 'eye candy'. Of course I don't need it... but I want it!

What about you? Do you still own and watch a black and white TV? People don't really need color televisions. Color televisions (probably thought of as 'eye candy' at one time) just make the experience better. This is no different than 'retina displays' on notebook computers.

It's not eye candy. For me, it's very useful. I like to have a lot of real estate to work on, and the retina display provides that. I can't zoom out a document in a regular laptop and keep it readable.

Add my two cents in there as well. Retina is pretty, but I need battery life.

Time for Apple to offer backward compatibility to move into the future.

Couldn't disagree more. That's microsoft's thinking, and look how bloated they are supporting windows XP a decade later.

anyone else just hoping for an IPS screen in the MBA and not retina resolution?

The 11 air is a big pain in the rear with the current screen. IPS would be nice.

Herb let his brother Homer Simpson build a really nifty car. Look where that got him...
