When I am referring to an LED when it comes to an iPhone, don't think of it as a simple crude light bulb. Apple wouldn't use such ugly things as bulbs. Take a look at the image below. See those greenish strips. They only light up when a current is added aka electroluminescent.

I'm not saying this material exactly, but something as elegant as this is something I could see Apple doing, vice an ugly single led bulb.
