I know. I know it's sense.

However I am saying stock ANDROID does not have expandable sound control. On some custom ROMS I've seen the feature but not the stock one. I'm not talking about volume controls in the settings app.

Then what are you talking about?

I am on stock 4.4.2 and these are the same volume toggles that jamezr showed in Sense.

I don't have my Nexus 5 anymore but I am very certain that stock vanilla Android does have expandable volume control. The vendor added skins just make it look different.

Can anyone with a stock vanilla phone confirm this please?

What phone is that?

That is a HTC M8......

Well yes Stock does, but only in the settings.

Maybe I'm not being clear? But as I said, NOT the volume sliders in the settings app.

I said NOT in the settings app. When you press the button it comes up with a slider. THAT is not expandable.
So i guess I don't get what you are getting at then......

The cool thing about Android is.......i can add whatever widget I want to my lockscreen...including volume adjustments.....

Why would you need to access to it elsewhere (aside from a widget/quick settings shortcut)? When you press the volume rocker, the volume automatically adjusts for whatever situation is needed: ringer by default, media if you're watching a video/listening to music, alarm can be adjusted inside whatever alarm app you use. To my knowledge, iOS is exactly the same.

I would like to expand the volumes for when I am watching a YouTube video and I get a notification. So I can have media volumes on high and notification sound is high but I don't want the notification sound to be high then I can adjust it accordingly.

Why am I being treated like I know nothing about Android:(

I am not trying to treat you bad....i am just responding to your questions.
So if i am misunderstanding you....sorry. Please tell me what you question was.......

Responses above^^^^

By the light you can just "know which app the notification came from" .. You say you are waiting for an email but if another light pops up, you won't bother to check?? I mean come on .. And if the light tells you which app the notifications come from, I think "ringtones" are made for that only... It's even better with a ringtone. You don't even need to see which light is flashing.. So then the light as I said will only be used for 1 purpose, that is when you arnt next to your phone, which in today's world is rare unless you have gone to the washroom or something...

You said that the light won't stop unless you don't go to the app it won't stop , so it's obviously annoying... Suppose you get 2 notifucations... 1 of SMS other of whatsapp.. 2 lights will flash... You open your SMS, so that light will stop flashing.. But the whatsapp light won't?# it'll keep flashing unless you don't open? That is annoying because you have a notification center for that kind of stuff to see what you've Missed, you don't require a light to flash for hours to say that...

Right. I'll reword my issue with Stock.

When I'm in the YouTube app and all volume are up, I get a notification, it makes a little sound while the video is playing. I don't like that, so instead of going to the settings app and lowering the ringer volume there, instead I can press the volume up or down button then press the button to expand the sound "pop up" and change the ringer from within whatever app I am rather than going to the settings app.

Ah, yes, I have seen that before. I believe CM has this feature. I can see how it would be useful.

After digging through GravityBox, it looks like you can get this without a custom ROM.

When I am at work.....I have a separate phone (IP5c). My personal phone is either on my desk or in a drawer. I can get pulled into any number of ad hoc impromptu meetings all day long. I have people in my cube constantly. My personal phone gets neglected. I don't have time to pick it up all the time. So the flashing light helps a great deal. You are partly right.....the ringtones help as well. I can have a ringtone notification along with a flashing light. So when my managing director comes to my cube and starts a dialogue in the hallway with several of us........i leave my desk and follow him to the hallway. When the meeting is over i go back to my desk and can just LOOK at my personal phone and tell what I have missed. I do not have to pick it up or touch it. If the flashing light is blue......well now that would be a text message....better get it.......the wife wants something.

So can you do that in IOS? Can toy get different sounds notifications for different apps like texts emails and calls? Can you also get a visual notification as well? How long will IOS keep notifying you?

We can keep going back and forth like this but....i think we have proven our point.

There we go! It's in a lot of custom ROMs and Touch wiz definitely has it.

I dislike gravity box however. My phone has gotten so much better with ART. The Nexus 4 performance is pretty bad IMO with dalvik.

Well It works for your issue.
Yes in ios we have different sounds for different apps, but it depends on the app developer, if has a ringtone builtin or we can choose what we want.. It's there in android also..And no.. The ringtones don't keep reminding us.. But again, depends on the developer, he can add functionality of reminding you from time to time..

But the light is only useful when you don't have it with you all the time, which is in your case...

You say you have 2 phones, suppose you had only 1 then I think we wouldn't have this issue... Ok, just do this for a day.. Turn of your light in your personal phone for a day.. And tell me how does your day go... If it's possible for you to (possible meaning not related to your phone , if it doesn't affect your daily work or anything)

I don't need to depend on app developers adding functionality. It is built into Android and the skins the vendors use. Added functionality does come with individual apps and if the dev added it but that was not the discussion........

The light is very useful.....I have my personal phone muted at work.......So i depend on getting visual notifications.

Works like that for me too. How long are iPhone fans going to keep trying to defend this. You no have can't use, you have to pushy pushy home button all day, get over it.

How's the 5C my daughter is hassling me for one?

I agree. The light... it changes everything! Seriously it makes a difference especially in the situation when you have your phone muted and is convenient to know if there is a pending notification without having to look at the screen.

The 5c is ok. It is a work phone. So the image on it is very restrictive. They have text, face time, camera, all disabled. But it is like a IP5 only it feels heavier.I would reccomend it to anyone. I wish the battery life was better.

Thanks, Geez why do they buy expensive iPhones then? so does most with a iPhone although i got by easily.

Oh my god. I really don't see the point when you have lock screen notifications like iOS. Why is that so hard to accept for so many people? I actually dislike the light when I'm trying to sleep and it keeps blinking.

Have you guys that firmly support support LED light thought that not everyone HAS to think it's useful? Please stop trying to argue that and cram down you opinion down others throats.

Every phone I've ever had with the blinky light had the option to turn it off if not wanted. Barring that you could always just put the phone face down.

Why such resistance to a 5 cent part stuck onto the iphone somewhere? I just don't get it!
