Every phone I've ever had with the blinky light had the option to turn it off if not wanted. Barring that you could always just put the phone face down.

Why such resistance to a 5 cent part stuck onto the iphone somewhere? I just don't get it!

Stock does not have that option unless KitKat added it.

Well It works for your issue.
Yes in ios we have different sounds for different apps, but it depends on the app developer, if has a ringtone builtin or we can choose what we want.. It's there in android also..And no.. The ringtones don't keep reminding us.. But again, depends on the developer, he can add functionality of reminding you from time to time..

But the light is only useful when you don't have it with you all the time, which is in your case...

You say you have 2 phones, suppose you had only 1 then I think we wouldn't have this issue... Ok, just do this for a day.. Turn of your light in your personal phone for a day.. And tell me how does your day go... If it's possible for you to (possible meaning not related to your phone , if it doesn't affect your daily work or anything)

Let me tell you a very good example last night. A friend and I are planning to go out. He told me he will text me when he is ready to leave his house. I plugged in my phone to charge it and jumped in the shower. When I was done, took a peek at my phone still charging from across the room. No blinking light so I proceeded to brush my teeth without even going near my phone. No blinking light still so changed my clothes and plopped down on the sofa to watch TV while I await his text as my phone charges from across the room. .

If it was my previous iPhone, I would have walked and pushed that home button a lot times already just to see if I have missed that text message. My other option would have been not to charge my phone so I can have it nearby and save me some mileage but with the possibility of running out of battery before the night is over. God forbid if I have to watch TV in silent just so I can hear my phone beep. Lol. That little blinking light is a very good feature...

Yep, the only people that argue against it are those that are not allowed to have it.

Personally, I think a simple pulsing blue glow from the touch ID ring AND the Apple logo on the back is all Apple needs. It wouldn't change colors, but it would be a nice option for iPhone users to let them know of an important notification. And have it on both sides would mean not having to worry about the phone facing down or up.

Wow calm down, time to put your pyjamas on and toddle off to bed for your bedtime sheep story:p

Sorry for being an hour late, but I've still got 3 hours before toddling off:D

Also, I thought I was all grown up:(

Ah I'm such an ******* when I'm tired. Sorry for being like that:eek:

Needs to be on one side or the other. That way, if I want the light on but don't want it bothering me at night, I can just flip the phone over.

You all think I'm a hater and have been trolling this thread - I actually advocated for the Apple logo as an LED notification light before the 5S was released.....lol. Thought it would look cool.

In the interest of proving I'm not trolling......

Great example - first actual example I've seen so far. In this instance I could see the light being useful.

I don't think you are a hater or trolling.

But in reference to my idea about a pulsing light front and back, there would be no need to limit it to one side or another. I would imagine Apple would add an option in settings to disable them or allow the user to have them off for set periods of time, like at night.

Add it as an option within DND - that could work.

Though not sure how they could do that in the ring around TouchID - its metal for a reason. Any transparent, conductive metals out there?

I thought about DND, but not sure if it would work within a subsetting of that feature? What if you are in a meeting with DND on, but you want the silent led to turn on for that important call or notification? That would require a white list of apps to override DND and I don't see Apple allowing that sort of thing.

As for the metal ring around the touch ID, you are right. Maybe use the saphire glass on the button as a medium for a light?

Good point. Wonder (because I'm ignorant on such matters) how much internal space two LEDs like that would take up. If it would mean a rework of the internals.

Hmmm, perhaps - but I would think that would mess with the sensor and whatnot.

I'm at a bit of a crossroad right now. Since work put the Moto X in my hands last year, I've really gotten a taste of Android and have found it not only surprisingly capable, but more and more preferable. I notice I prefer browsing or emailing/texting or just in general using my Moto X more than my 5C.

The other day, some people and I needed a restaurant to go to. Without thinking about it, I pulled out my Moto X to search instead of my 5C (which is my actual personal phone). I didn't even realize it until I was done and put the phone back in my pocket.

The Moto X is just beginning to feel easier to use.

I think this year could be a make or break year for me and my 5C. I hope iOS 8 brings some needed improvements. If work had never gave me a Moto X, I might've never dared to try Android. I would've never known what I was missing. Just so used to the iOS way that it never really crossed my mind someone else could, dare I say, do it better.

Its not about looking cool its about its usefulness. There is a 100 examples like that. I have a home office and are in and out all day, if i go to the toilet or letterbox or whatever when i come back i can see if missed something without having to pickup pushy pushy slide. Also being a business phone after hours/weekends it goes on block mode except for family.
I had a M8 for a few weeks but the light on HTC phones only blinks for 5 mins and is harder to see, sold it for a S5.
That's how much i need the notification light.

 What happened here? I didn't mention anything about volume controls or notification lights and more than half of this thread now about those things. LOL!

you should of put it in the iPhone forum with all the iPhone fans, what did you expect they only come in here to stir the pot. It was bound to hit the wall :)

My wife and son have iPhones so know the drill.

He did - it got moved here.

And just relax. Everyone else has moved on.

Actually I did say that....more than once. And I have presented my use case...more than once.

I get it. We're all being stubborn because we see things through the prism of our own use cases. And I get the whole "we want the choice" thing. But at some point the added options just become superfluous.

Anyhow, enjoy. I'm done hijacking this thread.

Actually 2 pages back. hijacking?

With the bickering, yes. Lloyd and I were able to have a civil conversation though about his ideas on the notification light....he mentioned an idea I had back before the 5S came out.

I'm all for a civil discussion ;)

Calling someone a cupcake is civil. What are you 10 or something, living in fairy land:)
